Estonia sets off to walk 40,000 kilometres, the length of the Earth's equator

This man from Estonia made it his life goal to travel the distance of the Earth's equator, 40,075 kilometres (24,901 miles).

Meigo Märk started his adventure in May 2014 in his home country and has currently a total of 20,000 kilometres (12,000 miles) across 22 countries.

The countries he's walked through include Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Iran, India, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

"It felt like the only right thing to do next in my life. I felt like I have enough energy to walk thousands of miles across continents that I really have to do it at least I will start and try," Miego Märk explained.

"To walk this I used a total of 24 pairs of very different shoes. Sports shoes, walking shoes, hiking boots and even sandals, some pairs had very large holes in them."

While he was travelling Miego also met the love of his life, got married and had a baby.

"We are dreaming and making plans to continue our travels around the world, all three of us. I would like to continue to walk by my wife and daughter."
