Floating restaurant with customers onboard blown away during storm in Thailand

A floating restaurant in Thailand was blown away by strong winds that took the raft carrying nine people away from the shore.

The wooden structure at the Ubon Ratana dam in Khon Kaen province had welcomed five customers on Monday afternoon (May 11).

But when the diners were about to leave, there was a strong wind that blew and snapped the knot that tied the raft to the shore.

Five of the customers and another four restaurant employees were on the raft terrified until it was stopped by a rock in the middle of the water.

The shocked restaurant owner Warangkhana Masing contacted the rescue team to come and help them.

The owner said she will look to strengthen the raft to prevent this incident from happening again.

She said: "I am relieved that everybody was brought back uninjured and after this I believed I should strengthen the raft.

"I was so worried when I saw them washed away I feared that the raft might have been wrecked and everyone on board might have died."

Tropical storms have been sweeping Thailand for the last few weeks as the country enters its scorching summer season with temperatures reaching 42C.
