Strong Men more likely to be Right Wing

Men who are physically strong are more likely to have right wing political views

Weaker men more likely to support welfare state and wealth

Men who are strong are more likely to take a right-wing stance, while weaker men support the welfare state, researchers claim.

Their study discovered a link between a man's upper-body strength and their political views.

Scientists
from Aarhus University in Denmark collected data on bicep size,
socio-economic status and support for economic redistribution from
hundreds in America, Argentina and Denmark. The figures revealed that men with
higher upper-body strength were less likely to support left-wing
policies on the redistribution of wealth.

But men with low upper-body strength were more likely to put their own self-interest aside and support a welfare state.

The researchers found no link between upper-body strength and redistribution opinions among women.

Professor Michael Petersen said: 'In
all three countries, physically strong males consistently pursued the
self-interested position on redistribution.
'However physically weak males were more reluctant to assert their self-interest - just as if disputes over national policies were a matter of direct physical confrontation between
individuals.
'While many people think of politics as a modern phenomenon, it has, in a sense, always been with our species.

'Political views are designed by natural selection to function in the conditions recurrent over human evolutionary history.'
The findings were published in the journal Psychological Science.

Professor Petersen added: 'Many previous studies have shown that people's
political views cannot be predicted by standard economic models.
'This is among the first studies to show that political views may be rational
in another sense, in that they're designed by natural selection to
function in the conditions recurrent over human evolutionary history.'

The Grieving Widow Behind Romney's Speech

Jane Horton began crying on the other end of the phone when she learned
that Mitt Romney had been using the story of her husband, Chris Horton,
who was killed in Afghanistan, as a part of his stump speech.

"Wow," the 26-year-old said. "I had no idea.

"To be honest, I've been through a lot and I'm not a super emotional
person but it brings me to tears," Horton said in an interview with ABC
News, after being informed of her husband's newfound spot on the
national stage. "Not that he's telling my story, but that he's telling
my husband's story, it means the world to me.

"One of the last things my husband said to me before he was killed, when
I would ask him, 'Chris, what do you need over there? What can I send
you?' he said, 'I need a new president,'" Horton recalled.

Chris Horton, who was acting as a combat sniper in the Oklahoma National
Guard, was killed when he and several others were ambushed in Paktya,
Afghanistan, in September 2011. When he was buried, protestors from the
Westboro Baptist Church turned up at his funeral, and as Romney now
tells it to crowds of thousands, his wife wasn't angry.

"She was asked what do you think of that and this is the quote she said
this, 'Chris died for them to be able to protest,'" Romney said at a
rally last weekend in St. Petersburg, Fla. "This is quite a nation we
live in. There are some extraordinary people."

Romney has since told Horton's story three more times to similarly sized
crowds, along with two other personal stories of people he has known
over the years, a way for him to connect with voters.

For Horton, Romney's decision to use her husband's story once came as a
surprise, when a friend posted an article from the St. Petersburg event
on her Facebook page. But she'd had no idea that he'd continue to do so,
again and again.

Horton said nobody from the campaign reached out to her to ask if it was
OK for Romney to use her story in his speech, but she is "deeply
humbled" by the news.

"I thought it was just a onetime thing," Horton said.

Horton, like her late husband, is a Romney supporter. He had a small
role in his 2008 campaign in their Oklahoma office and she has worked
here and there for his bid this time around.

They first spoke when Romney wrote her a handwritten letter after Chris
was killed. It was Oct. 1, 2011, Horton said, re-reading the letter as
she spoke, remembering that she was shocked Romney had put two and two
together -- that one of his many staffers had been killed and he'd
figured out a way to find his wife.

A few months later, Horton still touched by Romney's outreach and
thinking about her husband's support of the candidate, decided to send
the candidate his name tape -- the part of a soldier's uniform that
displays his last name.

Horton received another handwritten note from Romney thanking her, and
communication dropped off between them until August 2012, when Horton
decided to ask the campaign if she could meet him when she went to the
Republican National Convention where she'd be acting as an Oklahoma
delegate.

"I didn't want to meet him because he could be the next president, I
wanted to meet him to thank him for all of his time, all the time he
took to care about me and hand write me twice," Horton explained.

And they did meet -- the morning after Romney's speech at the RNC, just
before a rally in Lakeland, Fla., when staff members organized for her
to climb aboard his campaign bus.

"I said to him, 'Hi, President Romney,' and he laughed and 'not yet,'" Horton said.

"He spent at least 10 minutes with me, I was truly impressed," she said.
"Even if Obama did that for me, even if Hillary Clinton did
that for me, I'd say the exact same thing. It doesn't matter who it is
but that someone cares about me that much, on the most important day of
his life -- he had just become the nominee -- and he's going to take me
on his tour bus and get to me and get to know Chris?"

Horton said that she is aware of the criticism of Romney that he's not "real" enough.

" will say he's not a person, he's a robot, he doesn't have
feelings, he just has money, but that's just ridiculous," she said.

Horton said she doesn't want people to think Romney is "exploiting" her story -- she does not think that's what he's doing.

"It's the greatest honor of my life because I feel like I've
accomplished what my husband would have wanted, he'd want his spirit to
live on in me and I feel like that's happening right now," she said.

According to the results of a new ABC News-Washington Post poll, Romney
is now seen favorably by 47 percent of registered voters overall,
unfavorably by 51 percent. President Obama's rating is still better,
55-44 percent, but Romney's numbers are his best to date among
conservatives.

To help boost these numbers, Romney has been doing more off-the-cuff
campaigning, making impromptu stops at Florida restaurants and
redirecting his motorcade so he could meet a group of excited elementary
school kids. Stories like Horton's are just another addition to the
recent Romney repertoire, as the campaign looks to improve the
candidate's reputation among undecided voters in the month that remains
before Election Day.

Asked how she feels that her story is being touted as one of the ways
Romney will turn that criticism around -- and could help improve the
public perception of him -- Horton began to cry again.

"I just started bawling because if I had anything to do with that I
can't tell you how much that would mean to Chris," she said. "It would
make it all worth it for him, and so worth it for me."

As for plans to talk to Romney again, Horton says she'll wait and knows
how busy he is, but can't help but notice that he still frequently wears
the bracelet bearing Chris's name and the date of his death right next
to his watch. Horton gave it to him the morning that they met.

Last week, as Romney debuted Horton's story at that outdoor rally in St.
Petersburg, there it was on, his wrist, visible as he rolled up his
sleeves to address the crowd. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/OTUS/grieving-widow-romneys-personal-story/story?id=17434211#.UHX7N67d58H

Did Obama Just Throw The Entire Election Away?

The Pew poll is devastating, just devastating .
Before the debate, Obama had a 51 - 43 lead; now, Romney has a 49 - 45
lead. That's a simply unprecedented reversal for a candidate in October.
Before Obama had leads on every policy issue and personal
characteristic; now Romney leads in almost all of them. Obama's
performance gave Romney a 12 point swing! I repeat: a 12 point swing .
Romney's favorables are above Obama's now. Yes, you read that right.
Romney's favorables are higher than Obama's right now. That gender gap
that was Obama's firewall? Over in one night:

Currently, women are evenly divided (47% Obama, 47% Romney). Last month,
Obama led Romney by 18 points (56% to 38%) among women likely voters.

Seriously: has that kind of swing ever happened this late in a
campaign? Has any candidate lost 18 points among women voters in one
night ever? And we are told that when Obama left the stage that night,
he was feeling good. That's terrifying. On every single issue, Obama has
instantly plummeted into near-oblivion. He still has some personal
advantages over Romney - even though they are all much diminished. Obama
still has an edge on Medicare, scores much higher on relating to
ordinary people, is ahead on foreign policy, and on being moderate,
consistent and honest (only 14 percent of swing voters believe Romney is
honest). But on the core issues of the economy and the deficit, Romney
is now kicking the president's ass:

By a 37% to 24% margin, more swing voters say Romney would improve
the job situation. Swing voters favor Romney on the deficit by a
two-to-one (41% vs. 20%) margin.... Romney has gained ground on several
of these measures since earlier in the campaign. Most notably, Obama and
Romney now run even (44% each) in terms of which candidate is the
stronger leader. Obama held a 13-point advantage on this a month ago.
And Obama's 14-point edge as the more honest and truthful candidate has
narrowed to just five points.

In June, Obama held a 17-point lead as the candidate voters thought was
more willing to work with leaders from the other party. Today, the
candidates run about even on this (45% say Obama, 42% Romney).

Lies work when they are unrebutted live on stage. And momentum counts at this point in the election.

Now look at Pew's question as to who would help the middle class the most:

Look: I'm trying to rally some morale, but I've never seen a
candidate this late in the game, so far ahead, just throw in the towel
in the way Obama did last week - throw away almost every single
advantage he had with voters and manage to enable his opponent to seem
as if he cares about the middle class as much as Obama does. How do you
erase that imprinted first image from public consciousness: a president
incapable of making a single argument or even a halfway decent closing
statement? And after Romney's convincing Etch-A-Sketch, convincing
because Obama was incapable of exposing it, Romney is now the centrist
candidate, even as he is running to head up the most radical party in
the modern era.
How can Obama come back? By ensuring people know that Romney was and
is a shameless liar and opportunist? That doesn't work for a sitting
president. He always needed a clear positive proposal - tax reform, a
Grand Bargain on S-B lines - as well as a sterling defense of his
admirable record. Bill Clinton did the former for him. Everyone
imaginable did what they could for him. And his response? Well, let's look back a bit :
With President Obama holed up in a Nevada resort for debate practice,
things can get pretty boring on the White House beat right now. Pretty boring for Obama too, apparently. "Basically
they're keeping me indoors all the time," Obama told a supporter on the
phone during a visit to a Las Vegas area field office. "It's a drag," he added. "They're making me do my homework."
Too arrogant to take a core campaign responsibility seriously. Too
arrogant to give his supporters what they deserve. If he now came out
and said he supports Simpson-Bowles in its entirety, it would look
desperate, but now that Romney has junked every proposal he ever told
his base, and we're in mid-October, it's Obama's only chance on the
economy.
Or maybe, just maybe, Obama can regain our trust and confidence
somehow in the next debate. Maybe he can begin to give us a positive
vision of what he wants to do (amazing that it's October and some of us
are still trying to help him, but he cannot). Maybe if Romney can turn
this whole campaign around in 90 minutes, Obama can now do the same. But
I doubt it. A sitting president does not recover from being obliterated
on substance, style and likability in the first debate and get much of a
chance to come back. He has, at a critical moment, deeply depressed his
base and his supporters and independents are flocking to Romney in
droves.
I've never seen a candidate self-destruct for no external reason this
late in a campaign before. Gore was better in his first debate - and he
threw a solid lead into the trash that night. Even Bush was better in
2004 than Obama last week. Even Reagan's meandering mess in 1984 was
better - and he had approaching Alzheimer's to blame.
I'm trying to see a silver lining. But when a president
self-immolates on live TV, and his opponent shines with lies and smiles,
and a record number of people watch, it's hard to see how a president
and his party recover. I'm not giving up. If the lies and propaganda of
the last four years work even after Obama had managed to fight back
solidly against them to get a clear and solid lead in critical states,
then reality-based government is over in this country again. We're back
to Bush-Cheney, but more extreme. We have to find a way to avoid that.
Much, much more than Obama's vanity is at stake.

After showing President Obama with an 8-point lead in September, the Pew Research Center now finds a deadocked presidential race among registered voters -- and a 4-point Romney lead among those most likely to vote:

Coming out of the debate, Mitt Romney's personal image has improved.
His favorable rating has hit 50% among registered voters for the first
time in Pew Research Center surveys and has risen five points since
September. At the same time, Obama's personal favorability rating has
fallen from 55% to 49%.
In the presidential horserace, Romney has made sizable gains over
the past month among women voters, white non-Hispanics and those younger
than 50. Currently, women are evenly divided (47% Obama, 47% Romney).
Last month, Obama led Romney by 18 points (56% to 38%) among women
likely voters. ...
Romney now ties Obama in being regarded as a strong leader and runs
virtually even with the president in willingness to work with leaders of
the other party. And by a 47% to 40% margin, voters pick Romney as the
candidate who has new ideas.
Conversely, Obama continues hold leads as the candidate who connects
well with ordinary people and takes consistent positions on issues. And
Obama leads by 10 points (49% to 39%) as the candidate who takes more
moderate positions on issues.

We've warned on a number of occasions against putting too much stock
in surveys showing huge swings in a 2012 race that's been mostly stable.
The Pew poll falls into that category: Obama led by 19 points last
month among registered female voters, and there's been a 12-point swing
among likely voters in the space of a few weeks. But a national, prime time debate is also one of the few occasions when
you could plausibly see a major shift in the fundamentals of the
campaign, and even if you're inclined to take the magnitude of change
here with a grain of salt, the trend in the scattered national polling
since the debate has tended to show real improvement for Romney.

The public is being warned to stay out of the water in the vicinity of the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision because of sharks feeding on the carcass of a dead whale.

The decomposing 50-foot sperm whale carcass first appeared Wednesday off the coast at the end of Kahakai Boulevard. The road leading from Pahoa to the coast provides access to several subdivisions including two along the water.

The area is not a frequent swimming area as the water is often rough and the rocky coast lined mostly with cliffs.

The agency is working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to hire a private marine salvage company to remove the dead whale.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources is warning the public to stay out of the water within a mile of the carcass. The warning is in effect for three days after it is removed.

The carcass is considered a public nuisance because of its strong odor.

Since sperm whales are protected under several state and federal laws, including the Endangered Species Act, disturbing or taking any part of the animal is prohibited without prior authorization, a DLNR spokeswoman said.

White House says Obama will stick with Biden as running mate

President Obama has no intention of getting rid of Vice President Biden as his running mate, the White House said Thursday.

Republicans are being "ridiculous" and are trying to "distract
attention" with their focus on Vice President Biden and his
controversial comments earlier this week, White House press secretary
Jay Carney said.
"They know that what they're saying about this is ridiculous," Carney
said at a briefing with reporters, adding that it's an "obvious" attempt
to take attention away from policy issues.

Mitt Romney's presidential campaign lashed out at Biden and President
Obama this week after the vice president in an address in Virginia said
the Republican's approach to the financial industry would "put y'all
back in chains." Biden made the remarks in front of a racially mixed
audience.

Obama's campaign has repeatedly said Biden was simply talking about financial regulation.

"The vice president was talking about Wall Street reform," Carney said Thursday. "The vice president's intention was clear."

Asked if Obama regrets the choice of words Biden used, Carney, who
served as communications director to Biden before taking the podium job,
called it "trivial," and said "nobody took it as a reference to
anything" except those who are trying to "make something out of
nothing."

Carney said it was an attempt to distract from the message because "the
other side is losing these policy debates pretty overwhelmingly."

The White House spokesman said Obama "absolutely understands and knows what the vice president was talking about."

Asked if Obama was frustrated by the distraction over the last few days, Carney replied, "Not that I saw."

Obama met this morning with Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) earlier this week said Obama would be
better off replacing Biden with Clinton as his running mate. McCain said
he did not expect that to happen, however. He said he thought Clinton
hoped to run for president in 2016.Asked about McCain's remarks
Wednesday, Carney said: "One place I would not go for advice on
presidential running mates is John McCain."

36 Obama aides owe $833,000 in back taxes

How embarrassing this must be for President Obama, whose major speech theme so far this campaign season has been that every single American, no matter how rich, should pay their "fair share" of taxes.

Because how unfair -- indeed, un-American -- it is for an office worker like, say, Warren Buffet's secretary to dutifully pay her taxes, while some well-to-do people with better educations and higher incomes end up paying a much smaller tax rate.

Or, worse, skipping their taxes altogether.

A new report just out from the Internal Revenue Service reveals that 36 of President Obama's executive office staff owe the country $833,970 in back taxes. These people working for Mr. Fair Share apparently haven't paid any share, let alone their fair share.

Previous reports have shown how well-paid Obama's White House staff is, with 457 aides pulling down more than $37 million last year. That's up seven workers and nearly $4 million from the Bush administration's last year.

Nearly one-third of Obama's aides make more than $100,000 with 21 being paid the top White House salary of $172,200, each.

The IRS' 2010 delinquent tax revelations come as part of a required annual agency report on federal employees' tax compliance. Turns out, an awful lot of folks being paid by taxpayers are not paying their own income taxes.

The report finds that thousands of federal employees owe the country more than $3.4 billion in back taxes. That's up 3% in the past year.

That scale of delinquency could annoy voters, hard-pressed by their own costs, fears and stubbornly high unemployment despite Joe Biden's many promises.

The tax offenders include employees of the U.S. Senate who help write the laws imposed on everyone else. They owe $2.1 million. Workers in the House of Representatives owe $8.5 million, Department of Education employees owe $4.3 million and over at Homeland Security, 4,697 workers owe about $37 million. Active duty military members owe more than $100 million.

The Treasury Department, where Obama nominee Tim Geithner had to pay up $42,000 in his own back taxes before being confirmed as secretary, has 1,181 other employees with delinquent taxes totaling $9.3 million.

As usual, the Postal Service, with more than 600,000 workers, has the most offenders (25,640), who also owe the most -- almost $270 million. Veterans Affairs has 11,659 workers owing the IRS $151 million while the Energy Department that was so quick to dish out more than $500 million to the Solyndra folks has 322 employees owing $5 million.

The country's chief law enforcement agency, the Department of Justice, has 2,069 employees who are nearly $17 million behind in taxes. Like Operation Fast and Furious, Attorney General Eric Holder has apparently missed them too.

As with ordinary people, the IRS attempts to negotiate back-tax payment plans with all delinquents, whose names cannot be released. But according to current federal law, the only federal employees who can be fired for not paying taxes are IRS workers.

The Head Of A Household Of Four Making Minimum Wage Has More Disposable Income Than A Family Making $60,000 A Year

Tonight's stunning financial piece de resistance comes from
Wyatt Emerich of The Cleveland Current. In what is sure to inspire some
serious ire among all those who once believed Ronald Reagan that it was
the USSR that was the "Evil Empire", Emmerich analyzes
disposable income and economic benefits among several key income classes
and comes to the stunning (and verifiable) conclusion that "a
one-parent family of three making $14,500 a year (minimum wage) has more
disposable income than a family making $60,000 a year." And that
excludes benefits from Supplemental Security Income disability checks.
America is now a country which punishes those middle-class people who
not only try to work hard, but avoid scamming the system. Not
surprisingly, it is not only the richest and most audacious thieves that
prosper - it is also the penny scammers at the very bottom of the
economic ladder that rip off the middle class each and every day,
courtesy of the world's most generous entitlement system. Perhaps if
Reagan were alive today, he would wish to modify the object of his once
legendary remark.

Stunning? Just do it yourself.

Almost all welfare programs have Web sites where you can call up
"benefits calculators." Just plug in your income and family size and,
presto, your benefits are automatically calculated.
The chart is quite revealing. A one-parent family of three
making $14,500 a year (minimu wage) has more disposable income than a
amily making $60,000 a year.

And if that wasn't enough, here is one that will blow your mind:

If the family provider works only one week a month at minimum wage,
he or she makes 92 percent as much as a provider grossing $60,000 a
year.

Ever wonder why Obama was so focused on health reform? It is so those
who have no interest or ability in working, make as much as
representatives of America's once exalted, and now merely endangered,
middle class.

First of all, working one week a month, saves big-time on child care.
But the real big-ticket item is Medicaid, which has minimal deductibles
and copays. By working only one week a month at a minimum wage job, a
provider is able to get total medical coverage for next to nothing.
Compare this to the family provider making $60,000 a year. A typical
Mississippi family coverage would cost around $12,000, adding
deductibles and copays adds an additional $4,500 or so to the bill.
That's a huge hit.

There is a reason why a full time worker may not be too excited to learn there is little to show for doing the "right thing."

The full-time $60,000-a-year job is going to be much more demanding
than woring one week a month at minimu wage. Presumably, the low-income
parent will have more energy to attend to the various stresses of
managing a household.

It gets even scarier if one assumes a little dishonesty is throwin in the equation.

If the one-week-a-month worker maintains an unreported cash-only job on the side, the deal gets better than a regular $60,000-a-year job.
In this scenario, you maintain a reportable, payroll deductible,
low-income job for federal tax purposes. This allows you to easily
establish your qualification for all these welfare programs. Then your
black-market job gives you additional cash without interfering with your
benefits. Some economists estimate there is one trillion in unreported
income each year in the United States.
This really got me thinking. Just how much money could I get if I set out to deliberately scam the system?
I soon realized that getting a low-paying minimum wage job would set
the stage for far more welfare benefits than you could earn in a real
job, if you were weilling to cheat. Even if you dodn't cheat,
you could do almost as well working one week a month at minimum wage
than busting a gut at a $60,000-a-year job.

Now where it gets plainly out of control is if one throws in Supplemental Security Income.

SSI pays $8,088 per year for each "disabled" family member. A person
can be deemed "disabled" if thy are totally lacking in the cultural and
educational skills needed to be employable in the workforce.
If you add $24,262 a year for three disability checks, the
lowest paid welfare family would now have far more take-home income than
the $60,000-a-year family.

Best of all: being on welfare does not judge you if you are stupid enough not to take drugs all day, every day to make some sense out of this Mephistophelian tragicomedy known as living in the USA:

Most private workplaces require drug testing, but there is no drug testing to get welfare checks.

Alas, on America's way to to communist welfare, it has long since surpassed such bastions of capitalism as China:

The welfare system in communist China is far stringier. Those people have to work to eat.

We have been writing for over a year, how the very top of America's
social order steals from the middle class each and every day. Now we
finally know that the very bottom of the entitlement food chain also
makes out like a bandit compared to that idiot American who actually
works and pays their taxes. One can only also hope that in addition to
seeing their disposable income be eaten away by a kleptocratic
entitlement state, that the disappearing middle class is also selling
off its weaponry. Because if it isn't, and if it finally decides it has
had enough, the outcome will not be surprising at all: it will be the
same old that has occurred in virtually every revolution in the history
of the world to date.
