A mother stabbed her severely autistic son several times in the chest then nearly severed his hand slashing his wrist after she and the 14-year-old's godmother became overwhelmed caring for the boy day and night after taking him out of the hospital in March, police say.

Dorothy Spourdalakis had pleaded for financial help removing her son Alex from Loyal University Medical Center in Chicago, where she claimed he was neglected and abused. Disgraced British autism researcher Andrew Wakefield personally recorded a YouTube request for donations in March to find Alex a home outside the hospital and said that he would be taken away from his mother if supporters didn't act.

After Wakefield's appeal and several posts by the autism activist site Age of Autism , an anonymous donor gave Spourdalakis funds that allowed her to leave the hospital with Alex. She wrote in a March blog post she would make sure Alex received 'appropriate medical attention.'

Less than three months later, police say, Spourdalakis and his godmother and caretaker Jolanta Agatha Skrodzka could no longer handle round-the-clock care for Alex because they believed the 200-pound teen's 'emotional condition had worsened' since he was removed from the hospital.

Stabbed: 14-year-old Alex Spourdalakis was found dead in his bed Sunday afternoon, with several stab wounds to his chest. Above, a recent picture of Alex restrained at a hospital where he was being treated for gastrointestinal problems

Suicide pact: Dorothy Spourdalakis, 50, and Jolanta Skrodzka, 40, planned to commit suicide after killing 14-year-old Alex. They took sleeping pills, but did not die

Andrew Wakefield, a disgraced British autism researcher, recorded a personal appeal for donations or help to have Alex removed from the hospital

The Chicago Tribune reports that Spourdalakis and Skrodzka planned a suicide pact in their cramped apartment above a plumber in River Grove, Illinois.

They first allegedly tried to kill Alex with sleeping pills. When that didn't work, police say, Alex's mother grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the teenage boy multiple times in the chest as he lay in bed, according to authorities. She then allegedly slashed the boy's wrist, nearly cutting off his hand.

Once Alex was dead, she handed the knife to Skrodzka, who used it to kill the family cat. A suicide note said the women killed the cat because they did not want it to go to a shelter.

The pair wiped off the knife and returned it to the butcher's block in the kitchen. The detailed their actions in a suicide note, according to authorities.

They then took sleeping pills with the intention of killing themselves and laid down in Alex's bedroom and locked the door, according to authorities.

The boy's father, who is separated from Spourdalakis, found Alex dead and the two women barely conscious after he went to the apartment when no one answered his repeated phone calls.

Spourdalakis, 50, and Skrodzka, 44, were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and then charged with first degree murder.

'The murder was committed in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner,' Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Maureen O'Brien told the Tribune.

The two women began caring for Alex full time in March after Spourdalakis launched a public campaign to have her son removed from Loyola University Medical Center and enlisted the help of Age of Autism - an autism activism blog.

Wakefield has been stricken from the British medical register. He is an autism researcher who claims to have found a link between the measles vaccine and autism - though his research was later discredited.

Wakefield could not be reached for comment on this story.

'He needs something simple in the country where he can run around and get the treatment that he needs so he can get better,' a beleaguered Spourdalakis said in an interview with Autism Media Channel.

Two days later after Wakefield posted his appeal, Spourdalakis wrote on Age of Autism that a donor had come forward and given her the money to let her take Alex away from the hospital. She said that the money allowed her to take Alex to get the care needed.

'We know no one will help us unless we help ourselves,' she wrote.

Photos of Taco Bell employee licking taco shells posted on Facebook

A photo posted on the Taco Bell Facebook page yesterday by 'Jj O'Brien Nolan', along with the comment 'This sure says a lot about your employees, food treatment, and what they post on the internet' shows an employee of the fast food chain licking a stack of taco shells.

The employee hasn't been identified, nor has the location of the restaurant in the photograph, but Facebook users are speculating it's at Ridgecrest, California.

Some Facebook commenters are claiming the stack of taco shells was stale and earmarked for the trash, but others are concerned the shell were served to the public.

Tongue lashing: This unnamed employee is unlikely to keep his job after this photograph was posted to the Taco Bell Facebook page and has now gone viral

'Regardless of the circumstances, an employee should never represent themselves and their employer in such a manner, especially when you are working in the food service industry,' said one commenter.

'This just makes me hungry,' stated another.

Despite the risks of being caught, this isn't the first time fast food workers have gotten into hot water over questionable treatment of food photographed and posted to social media.

Taco trials: Taco Bell isn't new to controversy on social media, with the latest incident just one in a series of embarrassing instances of employees photographed playing with their food

In April, a KFC worker posted photographs of herself licking a pile of mashed potatoes on Facebook and was promptly fired by her employer.

Last year, three Burger King employees from Ohio were fired after images of them standing in two bins full of shredded lettuce were uploaded to their Facebook pages.

And in another shameful Taco Bell image, a worker tweeted a photograph of himself urinating into a plate of nachos in August last year.

Viral: Taco Bell's Facebook page has filled with comments regarding the incident varying from the outraged to the amused

'I pissed on them where nobody could see, in private, an I threw them away. There's literally nothing they can do. Fire me. I don't care,' Cameron Jankowski of Fort Wayne said of the photo. Taco Bell took him up on his offer and he was relieved of duties immediately.

The latest fast food atrocity is likely to result in the same fate for the taco-licking employee.

Taco Bell has not commented on the photograph.

Goodbye, partner: The moment police dog paid final respects to his handler who was gunned down in brutal pre-planned ambush

The canine sidekick of a police officer shot to death in the line of duty gave a heart wrenching goodbye to his fallen partner Thursday, standing vigil at the funeral just before the casket was lowered into the ground.

It was a deeply emotional funeral for Bardstown, Kentucky police officer Jason Ellis, 33, who was murdered on a highway exit ramp May 25 in what police believe was a planned setup to lure the officer from the safety of his car.

His canine partner, Figo, stood beside his casket at Highview Cemetery in Chaplin, Kentucky and a touching photo shows the dog placing a loving paw on Ellis casket, as if giving his last goodbye.

Figo has been retired and given to Ellis' widow, Amy, and his two sons, ages 6 and 7.

Last week, Amy spoke of the agony of sharing the news of his death with her two sons, who idolized their father.

'He wanted to make sure everybody was having a good time around him. He was a dedicated family man. He loved our boys. He loved me,' she said.

'I've laid on the bathroom floor. I did not want to live another second without him. I don't have the strength to pray right now, but I know that many others are praying for me and our family.

'Now I know I have to be strong for our kids.'

At Thursday's funeral, Police Chief Rick McCubbin said Ellis 'paid the ultimate sacrifice doing what he loved, being a police officer.' He called Ellis and Figo 'true partners.'

The former minor league baseball player turned lawman was hit with multiple shotgun blasts early Saturday after he got out his cruiser to pick up debris at a ramp off the Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County, according to Kentucky State Police. The investigation is continuing.

Hundreds of police officers from Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana, emergency workers and others attended services for Ellis, a K-9 officer who was on the drug task force.

'Heaven is a real place. Jason is there,' said the Rev. Brent Snook of First Baptist Church of Glen Este, in Batavia, Ohio, who had been Ellis' childhood pastor.

Ellis' flag-draped coffin was pulled on a caisson by one white horse. It was accompanied by five officers on horseback and one officer leading a riderless horse. A bagpipe and drummer played.

At the end of the burial service, two helicopters flew overhead and the bagpipe player played 'Amazing Grace.'

At the morning service at Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown, McCubbin told mourners Ellis was a fun-loving jokester who dressed as an elf at a town Christmas party, and he was proud of his work taking drugs off the streets with Figo.

Ellis was 'gunned down in a senseless act of cowardice and you just want to cry out, 'Why?' Snook said at the funeral service.

Later, as the funeral procession inched slowly toward the cemetery 18 miles away, young and old stood on the roadside in this town of 12,000 and watched. Factories, office buildings and offices emptied as people lined the streets, many clutching American flags or holding their hands on their hearts.

Others held signs thanking Ellis for his service. A giant American flag hung between two fire-truck ladders in front of the police department. Outside the courthouse stood three judges in black robes.

Outside the police station in Bardstown, about 40 miles southeast of Louisville, a makeshift memorial featuring flags, candles, flowers and baseballs sat in front of a police cruiser signed with messages.

One message read: 'I love you. Mom.'

Officials on Thursday announced that a reward fund in the case has surpassed $100,000.

Ellis had been a standout baseball player at the University of the Cumberlands, and he went on to play minor league ball in the Cincinnati Reds system from 2002 to 2005.

Is this the best breakup letter ever? Woman dumps cheating boyfriend by leading him on hunt for all his belongings she's hidden

Breaking up is so very hard to do goes the old Burt Bacharach song, yet the writer of this letter seems to have done rather a good job of compartmentalizing her emotions as she writes to her lover to inform him that it's all over.

An armchair psychiatrist could have a field day trying to decipher if the jilted lover writing the letter has taken the end of the relationship well or is perhaps overacting to what she has discovered.

What we do know is that when the writer accesses her boyfriend's Facebook account she notices he has received a message from another girl, called Kelsi.

It's over: An armchair psychiatrist could have a field day trying to decipher if the jilted lover writing the letter has taken the end of the relationship well or is perhaps overacting to what she has discovered

Sadly we don't find out what was in that message but clearly it is the last straw for the letter writer who promptly decides she has had it with her boyfriend and decides to end their two-year relationship.

A more typical response to finding out your boyfriend has cheated on you might be simply tell him he is a loser and dump his belongings on the street, but this letter writer has a different idea.

She explains that she has left some of her exes most treasured possessions in a variety of places that once meant so much to their relation.

So we find out his clothes have been left where they first met, his video games where they first kissed, his television where they first went 'all the way' etc etc.

Bunny boiler: One interpretation of the bizarre hand-written note is that the writer is displaying all the psychotic tendencies of Glenn Close's character in Fatal Attraction

'Don't worry I didn't break anything!' she writes and depending on your point-of-view this might sound all very reasonable given the circumstances or like the actions of someone displaying all the psychotic tendencies of Glenn Close's infamous bunny boiler character in Fatal Attraction.

'Happy hunting!' she signs off the letter, but I get the impression she doesn't really mean it.

The letter was posted on Imgur yesterday by Nipplesquirrelham and has already been viewed more than 180,000 times. There are also lots of hilarious comments from Imgur readers including 'I loved the restrained rage' and 'Anyone up for a bet that he only found the T.V.?'

A nation waits with baited breath to find out more about this intriguing couple and not forgetting Kelsi.

Rest In Peace Kaiser :(

A Massachusetts police dog got a official send off as over a dozen officers saluted the hound on his way to be put down.

Kaiser, a two and a half year old German Shepard, was a member of the Plymouth, Massachusetts police department.

The dog was laid to rest after a brief battle with kidney disease by handler Ptl. Jamie Lebretton, who lead the K-9 through a gauntlet of officers paying tribute to the crime fighting canine.

Fellow Massachusetts police officers pay tribute to Kaiser, a German Shepard in the K-9 unit suffering from kidney disease, as he is walks into the pet hospital to be put down

In a heart-breaking Facebook post on the Plymouth Police Working Dog Foundation's page Officer Lebretton wrote, 'It is with deep regret and sorrow that I announce the retirement of my partner K-9 Kaiser. Kaiser was recently diagnosed with severe kidney disease/failure ... battled this disease with vigor and toughness like I have never seen before.'

Lebretton explained that after the diagnosis, Kaiser's health suffered from rapid decline, forcing his handler to make the 'heart wrenching' decision to put him down.

News of the touching send off soon went viral after a photo of a sad-looking Kaiser being led into the animal hospital flanked by over a dozen police officers was posted to Reddit.

Kaiser, a German Shepard, was taken in to the Plymouth, Massachusetts K-9 unit at five-months old. He was put to sleep only two years later following a battle with kidney disease

Kaiser joined the Plymouth police force in March 2011 after a local family volunteered to donate the five month old pup to the department.

'I ventured to their house and was greeted by a 5 month old German Sheperd who was more concerned with standing his ground and protecting their beautiful 2 children then allowing us ... to greet him,' a fellow K-9 handler recounted on the social media site.

Once he was adopted into the police department, Kaiser immediately formed a connection with Officer Lebretton, who at the time was still in K-9 Patrol Academy.

Kaiser and his K-9 handler Officer Jamie LeBretton pose for the camera. LeBretton gave an emotional eulogy about his fallen partner on Facebook, after he was forced to put the suffering dog down

The dog went on to have an accomplished career, leaving behind tales of his 'legendary finds and the countless ass kicking of bad guys,' the unnamed handler wrote.

After the funeral Lebretton thanked the officers for their expressions of sympathy.

'Never in my career have i ever been so proud,' he said, 'You out did yourselves today. I could not have asked for a better send off.'

Seen here with his K-9 unit handlers, Kaiser, the Massachusetts police dog who recently died of kidney failure, trains to attack a criminal

Despite the dog's short time on the force Lebretton testified to the pup's love for the job.

Praising the K-9 he wrote, 'Kaiser taught me more about myself and my profession than I could have ever taught him. I feel privileged to have had a front row seat to witness his bravery and heroic actions.'

Dozens of officers line up outside of the pet cemetery to pay tribute to Kaiser, a police dog who was put down following his battle with kidney failure

In a final eulogy on the social media site Lebretton spoke directly to his fallen furry partner writing, 'RIP my boy. I could not have asked for a better partner or friend ... You made me a better person, a better handler, and a better cop. Till we meet again kai. I love you and will miss you daily.'

A third of eligible workers are willing to accept the $20,000 early retirement bonus which includes a pension and health insurance. The landslide occurred on April 10 There were no fatalities
Geological engineer says this was the largest North American landslide on record.

This is the stunning aftermath of the largest landslide ever recorded in North America, which saw 165 million tons of earth dropping more than a half mile at a Utah copper mine last month.

The natural disaster cut mining production in half at the Bingham Canyon Mine after the April 10 incident.

Operators rushed to bring out all workers and equipment from the mine before a massive landslide ripped through the canyon. It started at the mine's northeastern corner and then plummeted to very bottom of the mine, some six-tenths of a mile down.

Miraculously, there were no injuries.

Landslide brought it down: The devastation at the Bingham Canyon Mine outside of Salt Lake City. The mine's production was cut in half after the natural disaster

According to Kennecott Copper Corp., the London-based company that operates the mine, more than 165 million tons of earth had fallen in the landslide.

Production at the mine was cut in half due to the disaster. In a message to customers, Kennecott representatives said that shipments of refined copper would continue as normal through April, but that May deliveries would be down and 'thereafter, we do not anticipate the ability to make further shipments for the foreseeable future'

Production began at the mines again in late April, but only limited operations.

In an effort to reduce costs at the slide-damaged mine, Kennecott has offered 270 workers in their 50s or older a $20,000 early retirement bonus in addition to pension and health insurance benefits. About a third of these workers are planning on taking the retirement, Union officials told the Associated Press May 31. The workers have until Saturday to accept or reject the plan.

Aftermath: A mining truck hauls rock from the Kennecott Copper Corp. owned Bingham Canyon Mine after the April 10 landslide

The company, which employed 2,100 employees, had been looking to reduce costs with layoffs ever since a massive landslide hit the Bingham Canyon Mine.

According to Jeff Moore, a geological engineer at the University of Utah, this was the largest landslide North America has had to date.

'It's so big it's hard to sense and feel,' Moore told The Salt Lake Tribune . 'We haven't had something of this magnitude since Earthquake Lake'

Moore estimates that around 85 million to 92 million cubic yards of rock and dirt, along with copper, gold, silver and molybdenum were moved. Moore explains this amount of earth as being able to fill 21 Great Pyramids of Giza, or if it were spread out over New York City's Central Park, it would be 65 feet deep.

And it's going to take a lot for the company to clean it up. 150 million tons of waste is almost two-thirds of what the mine moves in a year, according to reporting in the Tribune .

Quitting time: The Bingham Canyon Mine has been operating as a mine for over 100 years. The current company that owns the mine offered early retirement plans to older workers in order to reduce costs after an April landslide severely diminished production
