Chelyabinsk, Russia Meteorite Explosion Video

Chelyabinsk, Russia getting fucked by a meteorite.

Volume warning: Turn it up. The sound is awesome.

On 15 February 2013, a meteor entered Earth's atmosphere over Russia at approximately 09:20 YEKT (03:20 UTC), becoming a fireball. Moving at a speed of 15 km/s to 18 km/s (34,000 mph to 40,000 mph), the meteor passed over the southern Ural region and exploded over Chelyabinsk Oblast. The object's air burst occurred at approximately 15 to 25 km (10 to 15 mi) above the ground. The total energy released was equivalent to nearly 500 kilotons of TNT which would make it 20-30 times as powerful than the atomic bombs detonated at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The meteor was significantly smaller than objects that are tracked through current efforts by space object scientists, and was not detected before atmospheric entry.

Approximately 1,200 people were reported injured, mainly by glass from windows shattered by the shock wave; two were reported in serious condition. Up to 3,000 buildings in six cities across the region were damaged as a result of the explosion and impacts. The meteor created a dazzling light, bright enough to cast shadows during broad daylight in Chelyabinsk and to be observed in Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Orenburg Oblast, Republic of Bashkortostan, and Kazakhstan.

Published: Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 6:03 p.m.

Last Modified: Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 6:03 p.m.

The mother of a 7-year-old girl thrown from a vehicle during a crash on Interstate 85 is facing six charges related to the chase.

Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tony Ivey said Wednesday night that Errika Dominique Shelton faces six charges resulting from the incident: failure to stop for blue light resulting in death, driving under suspension third and subsequent, unlawful neglect of a child, reckless driving, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and habitual traffic offender.

According to a written statement from the sheriff's office, deputies initially received information from friends and family that the child, Queniya Tykia Shelton, was Errika Shelton's niece. Shortly before the girl's death, however, investigators learned Errika Shelton was the child's biological mother.

At a news conference earlier this week, Sheriff Chuck Wright said two deputies inside one car pursued Shelton's vehicle after they noticed erratic driving and initiated a traffic stop on I-85 Monday morning. Wright said the suspected traffic violation was following too close or improperly changing lanes.

Wright said the chase topped speeds of 100 mph and continued for a couple of miles.

The pursuit ended after Shelton lost control of the 2012 Dodge Journey she was driving and struck the guardrail in the northbound lane near the 81 mile marker.

Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the S.C. Highway Patrol said the SUV overturned, ejecting the child, before going over the guardrail and part of the median. He said the vehicle came to rest in the median near the southbound lane.

Queniya Shelton of Spartanburg was pronounced dead at 7:21 p.m. Tuesday at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, according to Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger.

Errika Shelton was listed in fair condition Wednesday afternoon.

Rhyne said the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office will handle all charges in the case. The Highway Patrol's investigation into the pursuit and crash is ongoing, he said.

Wright said his deputies followed protocol. He said they did not know a child was in the vehicle during the chase and would have handled the chase differently had they known. Wright said deputies recovered about a half pound of marijuana.

Shelton's criminal record includes convictions for failing to stop for a blue light, unlawful carrying of a weapon, assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest, habitual traffic offender and drug charges, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Shelton's 10-year driving record, obtained from the S.C. Department of Motor Vehicles, shows numerous traffic violations, including her license being suspended 18 times from May 2005 through February of this year for various violations, including a controlled substance violation, failure to pay traffic tickets, cancellation of insurance. It appears some of those suspensions overlap. For example, Shelton's license was suspended in August 2010 after she was classified a habitual offender. That suspension was to expire in August 2015, yet the record shows her license was suspended again on Feb. 6 for failure to stop for a blue light.

Family's Terrifying Escape From Lower North Fork Fire Near Denver Caught On Cell Phone Video

Just three days old, the Lower North Fork Fire near Denver has expanded to over 4,500 acres, destroyed 28 homes, and led to the pre-evacuation of 6,500 additional homes there. As of Wednesday morning, the blaze was zero percent contained despite the efforts of more than 400 firefighters on the ground supported by four aircraft dropping fire retardant.

So far the fire has claimed the lives of two people, identified by the Associated Press as Sam Lamar Lucas, 77, and Linda M. Lucas, 76. The deceased couple lived only 150 yards from a family that barely evacuated in time and captured their harrowing escape on a cell-phone camera.

In a video, the Gulick family drives through billowing orange smoke, falling embers, and burning trees, having received a mandatory evacuation call just 15 minutes prior.

Childrens' scared crying can be heard in the background as Mr Gulick warily assures everyone "it's OK. We're out, we're out..."

"We went from perfect daylight to perfect darkness just driving through those trees," Doug Gulick told KDVR after the ordeal.

Colorado Lieutenant Governor Joe Garcia signed an executive order Tuesday activating the National Guard to provide firefighting assistance to the area. Governor Hickenlooper was on a trade mission to Mexico.

Video showing former sheriff deputy's controversial altercation released
November 08, 2011

By Sanne Specht

A video released Tuesday by Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters depicts a controversial altercation between a fired sheriff's deputy and a retired deputy who was arrested near Gold Hill, then later released.

Jacob Franklin, 38, said he was fired April 7, 2009, because a week earlier he arrested Ron Oachs, a former sheriff's deputy and friend of his superior officers. Franklin was awarded more than $200,000 by a federal jury on Oct. 25.

The approximately 30-minute video shows Franklin pulling Oachs over as he leaves Interstate 5 at Exit 43 near Gold Hill. As the larger and older Oachs exits his white Dodge 4x4, Franklin can be heard shouting for Oachs to return to the vehicle. Oachs refuses and walks towards the rear of his truck. Franklin then orders Oachs to turn and face his car. When Oachs instead pulls a small packet of papers from the front of is bib overalls, Franklin grabs Oachs, and shoves, pushes and wrestles him to the ground.

A passing deputy, Linda Cooks, sees the scuffle and comes to assist Franklin.

The jury in Medford's U.S. District Court deliberated for about two hours before unanimously deciding to award Jacob Franklin $209,492 in economic damages.

Franklin also said his law enforcement career has been ruined because of false information on an internal affairs investigation.

"They absolutely destroyed my name," Franklin said after the verdict. "But today the jury concluded I was terminated because of who I arrested. Not because I arrested him."

Franklin said he had a short but exemplary record with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department until the day he stopped Oachs.

Franklin said Oachs, a retired 20-year veteran of the same department, was stopped at the I-5 off-ramp for endangering an emergency vehicle.

Franklin said he was ordered to release Oachs and remove all references to their fight, probable cause and anything that would be a problem for Oachs, Franklin said.

A Nov. 8 letter signed by Winters and sent to local media says Franklin was told to revise his report because Franklin's supervisor believed "it inaccurately described what is plainly evident on the video of the incident, so he required further revisions."

Winters, who declined comment when the story of the judgment first broke, also noted that the judge dismissed eight of Franklin's nine claims against his department.

Logan Utah Bystanders Rescue of Biker from Under Burning Car (Unedited Version)

This is the unedited full length video of the rescue of the Biker in Logan Utah from under a burning car by bystanders. WARNING: This video is looong. If you suffer from ADD, please look for the edited version.
This version shows not only the heroic rescue of the biker, but also the rather slow and incompetent response of Police who tried to prevent bystanders from helping the victim, and then just stood by and watched as the bystanders rescued the man and administered first aid to him.
The victim is reported to be making a good recovery in the Hospital, with surprisingly relatively minor injuries.
One local source who was critical of how Police and the Fire Department responded to the incident said, "The cop in the video was doing nothing. All the rescuers were civilians. Friends there when it happened said the cop was telling them to back off and they defied his orders. Nobody I talked to at the scene were impressed with response times from anybody. The first fireman appears at 5:56 in the video. I can ride a bicycle from the spot to the 2nd north firestation in less time than that. The ambulance was a while after that. Hats off to the civilians. Here's hoping the cops, fireman, and ambulance people can pick up the pace."
Another source added, "From the video it looks like the cops are really good at two things... 1. Talking on their radios and 2. Standing around looking cool. Thank goodness the man stopped them from picking up the victim and moving him. They could have paralyzed him if he had a back injury. It was obvious the patient was NOT the prioriy."
Still other sources added, "The fact that a bystander was administering first aid and not the police or fire department is a little crazy. Unless that guy was a first responder or ER doc, the cops should have enough basic training to handle it" and "It's awesome, but after they drag the guy out, NO ONE helps him, or checks to see if he's breathing for a little while. Yikes!"

March 11, 2011 New Port Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Miyagi Exhibition Center Guests were evacuated to the roof of the Exhibition Center immediately after the earthquake. The tsunami occurred several minutes later, as they watched as the wave swallowed up everything in front of them.

Event staff on the roof used loudspeakers, to urge guests outside to "Please return to the building." At first the tone was polite but then become more urgent as the water approached the building. They were keenly aware of the seriousness of the situation, and the tone of their voices changed to commands.
