The 36 year-old met his death as insurgents opened fire during an operation involving commandos from the Polish GROM special services, Colonel Miroslaw Ochyra, a spokesman for the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command has told Polish Radio. Krzysztof Wo'zniak was on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, where Poland currently has over 2,000 troops stationed, and has left a wife and three children. Thirty eight Polish troops, including a medic, have been killed in action in Afghanistan, with at least 100 soldiers wounded. (pg) UPDATE - Captain Wozniak, who was a member of the special forces GROM unit, it has been confirmed, had served in the Polish armed forces for 17 years. Sardar was responsible for many attacks on NATO and Afghani forces. His biggest "achievement" was blowing up Polish MRAP and killing 5 Polish soldiers on 21 December 2011. Because of that attack he was number one target for all Polish soldiers in Afghanistan. Recently he was located by Polish intelligence and commando unit was sent to capture him. Sardar didn't want to surrender so he was killed during action, as well as his bodyguard and his deputy. No other people were killed or injured. No more informations were issued. After she was discovered abandoned on the side of the road, she was given immediate care by the Polish before she was transferred to the pediatric department at the Ghazni Public Hospital. Pola wasn't there long before her future parents appeared at the hospital the next day after seeing the story of her rescue on television. "We are so happy, this baby is like a gift from the God," said Mohammad Zaher Rahimi and his wife Nahid, the baby's new parents. They have been waiting to adopt a child for more than 10 years. Zaher runs a private business and Nahid is a housekeeper. "There are many families visiting my hospital and asking about babies given up by their biological parents," said Baz Mohammad Eamat, Ghazni Public Hospital director. "Mr. and Mrs. Zaher were staying in touch with me for a long time. They used to call us expressing their interest in that case. In fact they had found out about Pola from TV broadcasting as this news had been widely publicized. So the next day they had appeared in my hospital. They seem to be a very loving couple." They have given the baby a new Afghan name, Aria, as a symbolic association with the former designation of Afghanistan, Zaher explained. "I want to underline that our child belongs to the entire country as she was found on our soil," Zaher said. The Afghan family has been given donations of baby care and personal hygiene items to help start their lives together, and the Polish soldiers haven't forgotten them either. The proud parents were given an opportunity to talk with a Polish midwife working in the Polish field hospital in Forward Operating Base Ghazni. "We discussed baby care practices and issues that could affect Aria as she responds to mother's milk substitute," said Polish Sgt. Elizabeth Grodzka, a nurse and midwife. "We also talked about what to do if exanthema appears and how Aria will get used to her new family and mother in particular." "Furthermore, her umbilical cord fell away during medical examination so the father recognized this as a sign that Aria had been waiting for them," Grodzka said. GROM commandos went on a combat patrol with the support of the air-assault unit separate from the Polish Task Force. After landing the Poles were then attacked by four times numerically superior Taliban forces. The Taliban then surrounded the Poles. The exchange of fire lasted over three hours. During the battle, 20 Taliban fighters were killed and 14 wounded, among the dead was their commander. Two GROM soldiers had been slightly wounded.
