      <title>President Putin Backs Syria's New Front to Liberate Golan, CIA Chief Makes Emergency Visit to Israel</title>

      <description>Events of the Last 48 hours:
- Russia's Pacific Fleet Enters The Mediterranean For First Time Since The Cold War.
-CIA chief John Brennan met Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon in an emergency unplanned meeting.
- USS Kearsarge, carrying 1,800 marines and a consignment of 20 V-22 Osprey helicopters, docks at the Israel's red sea port of Eilat.
-Rocket and mortar attack from Syria on Israeli positions in the Golan.
-Transfer of game changing weapons to Hezbollah from Syria.
-Eminent defeat of Israeli and NATO backed terrorists in Homs
-Buk, Pantsir and S-300 systems are now fully operational and online in Syria.
- Israel tries to bribe and appease China by lending them their new US delivered F35 jet fighters

On Tuesday, President Bashar Assad was quoted as saying the Golan will be the &quot;front
line of resistance&quot; after giving radical Palestinians under his wing
permission to install missiles there against Israel. Unidentified Syria
military sources vowed to attack the Israeli army vehicles crossing the
line to evacuate wounded terrorists in need of medical care.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Netanyahu ended
their three-hour meeting in Sochi Tuesday, May 14, at loggerheads on
Syria. In fact, Putin warned his guest that Israel and its army, the
IDF, were heading for war with Syria in which Russia might well be
involved - and not just through the advanced S-300 anti-air missiles
supplied to the Assad government. The case Netanyahu and Military
Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi put before Putin and Russian
foreign intelligence chief, SVR Director Mikhail Fradkov, fell on deaf
ears.

The Israeli prime minister countered with a warning that Israel would
 continue to strike advanced weapons in Syria that were destined for
Hizballah. And if President Bashar Assad hit back for Israel's May 5
bombardment of weapons stores on Mount Qassioun near Damascus, Israel
would intensify its bombardments of Syrian military targets and weapons
until Assad was left to fight off rebel assaults empty-handed.

Putin rejected this threat as implausible.

Neither Putin nor Netanyahu put all their cards on the table, but the
conversation ended with the Russian leader fully confident that his
capabilities for safeguarding Assad were greater than Israel's ability
to destroy him.

In the end, Netanyahu and his party arrived home Tuesday evening with
 a bad feeling. They were certain that Moscow had given Assad the green
light to go through with his threat to make the Syrian Golan and the
Horan of southern Syria &quot;a front for resistance&quot; - i.e. the platforms
for embarking on a war of attrition against northern Israel with the
help of a flow of advanced weapons to Hizballah.

The Syrian ruler is strongly encouraged to adopt this path by Tehran.
Hizballah's leader Hassan Nasrallah has embraced it. And the radical
Palestinian leader, Ahmed Jibril, head of the Assad-satellite Popular
Front-General Command, has eagerly offered his services.And indeed, Wednesday, the day after Netanyahu's trip to Sochi,

Jibril's group let loose with mortar fire on the Israeli Mt. Hermon ski
site, firing from a Syrian army position.

Israeli military sources confirmed later that these were no stray
shells from a Syrian-army-rebel battle as in former cases, but a
deliberate attack. In Jerusalem, it was taken as a direct consequence of
 Moscow's account to Assad of the conversation between the Russian and
Israeli leaders. They concluded that Assad took it for granted that he
was now at liberty to go on the offensive against Israel.

Wednesday night, Netanyahu's office reacted to this deterioration with a swift and strong warning.

Israeli media were informed bluntly that if the Assad chose to retaliate
 for Israel's air strikes, he would be removed from power.

That same night, &quot;a senior Israeli official&quot; contacted The New York Times with
 a more detailed warning quoted by the paper: &quot;If Syrian President Assad
 reacts by attacking Israel, or tries to strike Israel through his
terrorist proxies, he will risk forfeiting his regime, for Israel will
retaliate.&quot;

Within hours, early Thursday morning, May 16, Jerusalem had its answer from Damascus.

 A Palestinian group calling itself &quot;Martyrs of the Abdel Qader
al-Husseini Brigades&quot; (named for the commander of a Palestinian force
fighting Israel in its 1948 War of Independence) claimed responsibility
for the &quot;rockets&quot; aimed at an Israeli military observation post in the
Golan Heights. They were fired in honor of Nakba Day, said the statement
 released in Damascus &quot;We are not celebrating but avenging the blood of
our martyrs.&quot;

 A video showing the launch was appended .

Palestinian terrorist groups habitually use made-up names when claiming
attacks, a practice often followed by al Qaeda, but this one was easily
identified by Israel and taken to mean that Assad had begun using what
the Israeli official referred to in  The New York Times  as &quot;his terrorist proxies.&quot;

Depending on the next move decided on by Prime Minister Netanyahu,
Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon and Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz,
this incident could mark the tipping-point of a slide towards a war
confrontation against Israel by Syria, Hizballah and other Assad
proxies.

      <title>IDF closes civilian airspace in N.Israel following the strike in Syria</title>
      <pubDate>Sun, 05 May 2013 15:07:44 -0400</pubDate>

      <description>In light of the mounting tensions, the IDF has ordered the closure of Israel's civilian airspace in the northern region until Thursday. Arkia Airlines issued a statement saying it was forced to cancel all domestic flights on the Haifa-Eilat route.

In addition, the security alertness level in Israel's diplomatic missions and embassies across the world has been raised for fear of retaliation by Hezbollah.

Following the reports of a second Israeli strike into Syria within 48 hours, Israel raised its alert level for fear of possible reprisals by Assad's regime. As part of the defensive measures, two Iron Dome missile defense batteries were deployed in the Haifa and Safed areas.

 Meanwhile, the Lebanese Al-Mayadeen network, which is affiliated with Hezbollah, said the Shiite group and Syria have reached a decision to retaliate to the alleged Israeli attack. The network reported that Syria has deployed missiles aimed at Israel. the report could not be confirmed.

Israel declined to confirm the strike so as not to pressure Assad into serious retaliation, according to a confidant of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened the cabinet ministers on Sunday afternoon for an update regarding the rising tension to the north of Israel, following an alleged Israeli Air Force strike in Damascus on Sunday morning.

After the meeting, one senior official told Ynet: &quot;We have no wish to escalate the current situation. We estimate that the Syrians will not retaliate, and we're now waiting to see what happens. Israeli policy will remain as it was. We'll act according to the need and the red lines set in place,&quot; he said.

Meanwhile, Israel has enjoyed a relative diplomatic calm, and though two days have passed since the first alleged air strike into Syria took place, so far no condemnations were issued from non-Muslim or Arab countries.

Though Britain has supported Israel earlier on Sunday, citing its right to defend itself, it is still unclear how western European countries will respond - mainly Germany and France.

Israel is mostly concerned with the response from Russia, which has previously severely condemned Israel for attacks alleged to it in Syria.

A Foreign Ministry official said: &quot;It's possible they won't say anything this time, since apparently no Russian equipment was destroyed, but if they can do so at the expense of the Americans - they'll criticize us,&quot;

On Saturday, US President Barack Obama expressed his support for Israel's right for self defense and to prevent weapons trickling to terror groups, but in Jerusalemsome believe the US may signal Israel not to stretch the rope too far and escalate the Syrian situation.

At the same time, Israeli diplomatic missions and embassies worldwide raised their security alertness level fearing Hezbollah retaliation.

      <description>* Very tense day at the Gaza strip and the West Bank - Israeli aircraft target terrorist behind recent rocket attack on Eilat as he rides motorbike near Hamas training camp.
This is the first time the IDF strikes a top commander since Operation Pillar of Defense.

* Palestinian murders Israeli in West Bank - Eviatar Borovsky from Yitzhar, stabbed to death at Tapauch Junction by Palestinian, who then snatches victim's gun and opens fire at Border Guard force; officers return fire, moderately hurt the attacker.

* Jewish residents of West Bank avenge murder of Eviatar Borovsky at Tapauch Junction earlier in the day; settlers throw stones at Palestinian vehicles, burn fields; at least one Palestinian hurt, seven Jewish rioters detained.

IDF kills terrorist in Gaza for the first time since Operation Pillar of Defense: Israeli aircraft killed a senior terrorist in north Gaza at approximately 10 am Tuesday. According to Israeli security officials, the terrorist, a Salafi who belongs to Global Jihad, orchestrated the recent rocket attack on Eilat, Israel's southernmost city.

The Palestinians reported that the terrorist was riding his motorbike near a Hamas training camp when he was targeted by an Israeli aircraft. Another man, apparently the terrorist's aide, was injured in the strike.

Hamas' Health Ministry identified the terrorist as Haytham Almishal, 24, a resident of the Shati refugee camp who worked in security at the Shifa Hospital in Gaza. Channel 10 said Mashal was a rocket-manufacuring expert.

Tuesday's attack was the first deadly airstrike carried out by Israel since a ceasefire ended Operation Pillar of Defense in November.

Shortly after the strike in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, &quot;Today we hit one of the people involved in the wicked rocket fire on Eilat. I said that we would not let this pass quietly. We do not accept the firing from the Gaza Strip or from the Sinai Peninsula. We will work to protect Israel's citizens.&quot;

      <description>Mujahideen Shura Council of Jerusalem says fire at Eilat was in response to killing of 2 Palestinians who hurled a Molotov cocktail at an IDF post near the settlement of Einav earlier this month -

The Mujahideen Shura Council of Jerusalem has claimed responsibility for the firing of rockets at Eilat, Arab media are reporting. A statement issued by the Salafi group said that twoGrad rockets had been fired but did not disclose from where.

It was further stated that the attack was in response to the killing of two Palestinians who hurled a Molotov cocktail at an IDF post near the settlement of Einav earlier this month.

Last March, the group, which operates both in Sinai and in Gaza, claimed responsibility for the firing of Gaza rockets during US President Barack Obama's visit to Israel.

The past few weeks have seen Hamas cracking down on Salafi groups breaching the ceasefire agreement reached at the end of Operation Pillar of Defense .

Meanwhile, Egyptian newspaper al-Youm al-Sabaa reported thatEgypt has raised its alert level along the border and that Sinai Bedouin tribal leaders were asked to monitor any suspicious movements in the area.

Initially, Egyptian security forces were quick to deny that the firing had come from Sinai. A top military official told Sky Arabia that there had been no firing from Egypt and South Sinai Governor Khaled Fuda added that &quot;Israel's claims on the origin of the fire are false.&quot;

Fuda said that Israel is trying to hurt Sinai tourism and destabilize the region.

Also Wednesday, German news agency DPA quoted an Egyptian defense source as saying that Israel must examine the rockets before stating their origin.

But the tone of the statements softened later in the day. Egypt's state news agency quoted sources as saying that authorities are conducting examinations to check Israel's claims. A local news website quoted other officials as saying that security forces are canvassing the Sinai Peninsula, mainly the border area.

      <description>Two rockets exploded in residential areas in the southern resort town of Eilat Wednesday morning without causing injury or damage. A siren sounded in the city at around 9 am followed by sounds of an explosion. Initially it was reported that three rockets had been fired at Eilat but it was later discovered that only two hit the city.

 The rockets were apparently fired from the Sinai Peninsula but defense officials are also looking into the possibility they were fired from Jordan. The Iron Dome system deployed in the city detected the rocket launches but did not intercept the rockets.

Immediately after the hits, the Eilat airport was closed to all incoming and outgoing flights but it was later decided to allow departures.

&quot;It's the first time there's an alarm,&quot; said resident Simon Bar-Zion. &quot;It was really scary, I didn't know what to do as I have no TV at home; I saw everyone was staying indoor

Earlier this month, the Iron Dome's fifth battery was deployed in the Eilat region.

In June 2012, traces of a Grad rocket were discovered several miles north of Eilat. Defense officials estimated at the time that the rocket was fired from Sinai.

      <description>Dozens of Palestinians pelt soldiers with stones, set tires on fire ahead of funeral of Maisara Abu Hamdiyeh who died of cancer in Israeli jail.

 Tensions continue after death of prisoner Abu Hamdiyeh: Three Palestinians shot in West Bank after hurling firebombs at IDF post; two Palestinians killed. Meanwhile, Color Red alert sounds in Eshkol regional council after a mortar shell was fired from the Gaza strip. Iron Dome battery deployed in Eilat

----------

Palestinians are rioting in Hebron ahead of the funerals of three Palestinians who died this week.

Dozens began to hurl stones at IDF soldiers and set tires on fire in Hebron ahead of the funeral of Maisara Abu Hamdiyeh, the Palestinian prisoner who died of cancer earlier this week. The IDF is expecting the riots to continue throughout the day.

Abu Hamdiyeh, 64, was a Hamas member who recruited the terrorist who planned to carry out an attack on a Jerusalem coffee shop in 2002. That same year, he was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of attempted murder, membership in a terror organization and possession of weapons.

Following his death, Palestinian prisoners began to riot in a number of Israeli prisons, including Ramon, Ketziot, Eshel and Nafha.

An autopsy revealed that he suffered from a malignant tumor in the vocal chords with metastasis in the lungs, neck, chest, liver, spine and ribs.

This however did not serve to ease tensions and Israeli authorities were criticized for their handling of his case.

Two Palestinians ages 17 and 18 were killed Wednesday by IDF fire and another was wounded near the Einav settlement in the West Bank.

The IDF said the two hurled Molotov cocktails at an IDF post prompting soldiers from the haredi Netzah Yehuda Battalion to fire back. The circumstances behind the incident are being investigated.

The IDF Spokesperson's Unit stated that several Palestinians approached an IDF post near the Einav settlement in the West Bank and lobbed Molotov cocktails at it. The soldiers returned fire and killed two of the assailants.

According to the rules of engagement, a shoot-to-kill order can only be issued if the attackers were identified beyond a doubt.

The IDF will examine how the Palestinians managed to come so close to the post and whether the soldiers could have controlled the incident without opening fire.

Meanwhile, a Color Red alert sounded in the Eshkol Regional Council at around 2 am on Thursday after a mortar shell was fired from the Gaza Strip. No injuries or damage were reported.

The quiet in the south was also broken this week. Palestinian terrorists in Gaza fired two Qassam rockets toward the western Negev Wednesday morning, as Israeli children in Sderot and Sha'ar Hanegev were making their way to schools and kindergartens after the Passover holiday. No injuries or damage were reported.

On Tuesday, three mortars were fired from Gaza toward Israel. One shell landed in the Eshkol Regional Council, without causing injury or damage. The Israeli Air Force responded later that night by striking two terror targets in the Hamasruled territory. There were no reports of injury or damage.

A fifth Iron Dome battery was deployed in Eilat in the backdrop of renewed rocket fire. Two other batteries were placed in northern Israel recently.

      <title> Arab tourist from Israel kidnapped in Sinai with his Norwegian girlfriend</title>

      <description>Amir Omar Hasan, Arab (Israeli) kidnapped in Sinai by a gang of Bedouins, speaks with family members, says: 'Situation ok'; Egyptian report: Kidnappers reject negotiation, demand release of their relatives jailed in Egyptian prison -

Amir Omar Hasan, the 23-year-old Israeli-Arab who was kidnapped together with a Norwegian citizen by a gang of Bedouins while vacationing in Sinai, has spoken with his family members in Israel Friday.

According to his relatives, Hasan himself had called the family to inform them of his captivity. &quot;He asked us to stay calm, and said that he is healthy,&quot; a family member said, adding: &quot;We're not so sure about the circumstance of the actually kidnapping.&quot;
&quot;Today, we received a phone call from a source who told us he had been kidnapped,&quot; afterwards, Amir himself would place a call to the family, informing them of his plight.

The kidnapped's sister, who resides in Eilat, attempted, together with her husband, to gather any information she could on her brother's whereabouts.

According to the two, Amir traveled to Dahab, and when he took a cab to the Taba border crossing, a Norwegian woman, unknown to Hassan, also entered the vehicle.

When the cab neared the beach area of the peninsula it stopped, and under threat, Amir and the Norwegian were pulled out by Bedouins who informed the two that they were being kidnapped.

According to Egyptian reports, the cab was stopped by a group of armed Bedouins who forced the two out, leaving the driver behind to call the police and inform them of the kidnapping.

Then, according to the family, the kidnappers used the Norwegian's mobile phone to call them and others, making sure that the Norwegian ambassador was informed of the kidnapping.

&quot;For now, his condition is good,&quot; family members said in wake of the phone call, in which Hasan spoke to his brother, a lawyer from Nazareth, and recanted the order of events.

The Egyptian news agency ONA reported Friday that the kidnappers have informed the Egyptian security officials that they reject any attempt at negotiation.

 According to them they plan to hold the two in captivity until Egypt releases their family members currently jailed in Ismailia.

Earlier today, one of the kidnappers told the news agency that until his relatives are released he will not release either the Israeli or the Norwegian.

Egyptian newspaper A-Shuruk reported that negotiations are in fact underway, and are being mediated by Bedouin tribesmen, who are attempting to secure the release of the hostages.

Senior security officials told the paper that the kidnappers are demanding the release of two of their relatives currently serving time at Ismailia. The source estimate that a release of the hostages could take place within a number of hours, however the claims lack official confirmation.

It did not appear that the Israeli had been targeted because of his nationality, two Israeli officials in Jerusalem said.
&quot;Our initial assessment is that this was criminally motivated,&quot; they further said.

Bedouin kidnappers have captured tourists in the past to push for the release of fellow tribesmen from jail. Earlier this month kidnappers briefly seized the country boss of US oil major ExxonMobil and his wife.

Ahead of the Passover holiday the Counter Terrorism Bureau's issued a travel advisory with a serious warning for the Sinai Peninsula, where there is a high risk of terrorist attacks and kidnappings.

      <description>Some 950 dancers from 30 countries - including Turkey, Egypt and Jordan - to participate in world's biggest belly dancing festival taking place in southern Israeli city -

Belly dancers from Turkey, Egypt and Jordan will participate in the annual International Belly Dance Festival taking place in Eilat's Club Hotel next week.
The festival, which is the world's biggest belly dancing event, will feature some 950 dancers from Israel and 30 other countries across the world.

Orit Maftsir, one of the festival's organizers and a world-renowned belly dancer, said there had been no cancelations on the part of foreign participants in spite of the recent Israeli operation in Gaza.
The highlight of the event is the arrival of belly dancers and teachers from Arab countries, who are not afraid to come to Israel and vibrate their hips for peace.

 &quot;Beyond the cultural relations the festival creates between the region's countries, it also helps strengthen relations between the people,&quot; says Roni Pivko, the managing director of the Club Hotel chain.

      <description>A hotel worker was killed on Friday morning after a US national,who worked in the same hotel and was fired, opened fire inside the lobby of Leonardo Club Hotel in the Israeli southern resort city of Eilat. According to the reports he managed to grab the firearm from one of the hotel's security guards.

Large police forces and emergency services were called to the scene.

The Police Counterterrorism Unit was given command of the situation and once it was made clear that the shooter had barricaded himself in the hotel, special forces stormed the premises. The shooter was killed during the operation.

Initial reports suggesting he had taken hostages were quickly proven false.

The gunman is believed to be in his 20s. According to available information he arrived in Israel as part of an Israeli-American exchange project.

Available details suggest that the shooter had an altercation with another hotel employee. A hotel security guard tried to intervene, at which point the man grabbed his weapon and opened fire.

Hotel guests were instructed to stay inside their rooms while the event was in progress, for their own safety.

Alon Raz, a guest at the hotel, told Ynet Radio that &quot;As far as we know, the shooter was a man who was fired from the hotel.

&quot;Hotel staff told us that he walked into the dining room and started shooting... Everyone began screaming and running outside and up to the room,&quot; he recounted.

The police are questioning witnesses.

Eilat Police Spokesman Chief Inspector Lior Ben-Simon told Ynet that, &quot;Eilat's security forces are on high alert because of the holiday. The response time to the incident was quick.&quot;

      <description>Addressing their new book a senior Jihad operative said, &quot;From the city of Eilat (Israel) sends out its octopus arms to the coasts, cities and capitals of Africa and Asia and cunningly sneaks into the fabric of their lives to carry out its plans, which are aimed to destroy these cities and thus preserve (Israel's) existence.&quot;

Published: 04.22.12

The volatile security situation in Sinai, last summer's terror attack on Route 12 and the recent firing of Grad rockets towards Eilat have led Israel to reassess its defense strategy vis-`a-vis its southern borders. A new book released by Islamic Jihad's armed wing, the al-Quds Brigades, highlights the strategic importance of Eilat and its port to Israel.

Addressing the book, titled &quot;Umm Rashrash (Eilat) - life or death for Israel,&quot; a senior Jihad operative said, &quot;From the city of Eilat (Israel) sends out its octopus arms to the coasts, cities and capitals of Africa and Asia and cunningly sneaks into the fabric of their lives to carry out its plans, which are aimed to destroy these cities and thus preserve (Israel's) existence.&quot;

The 156-page book explores Eilat's history and its conquest while claimng that Jewish leaders from the early days of Zionism recognized Africa's importance. To prove its point, the book mentions that the Zionist movement's leaders considered establishing a Jewish state in Uganda. It also notes that late prime minister David Ben-Gurion sought to improve Israel's relations with various African countries in hopes they would support the Jewish state during crucial votes at international bodies.

In the book, Islamic Jihad also outlines its plan to restrict Israel's movement from the Red Sea to the Horn of Africa:

 Maintain security-related cooperation between the Arab states and attempt to establish a joint Arab naval force.

 Boost Arab military presence in the region.

 Form a strategic alliance between Arab countries bordering the Red Sea.

The senior Jihad operative admitted that the Palestinians have underestimated Eilat's strategic importance. &quot;We did not allow our soldiers (attack) this target - only rarely - because we did not have any knowledge regarding the importance of this target and the special place Eilat's port has in Israel's strategic outlook,&quot; he said.

      <description>Latest Update: 04.05.12

Terrorists fired at least one rocket at Israel's southern resort city of Eilat Wednesday night. No injuries or damage were reported.

Reports of large explosions had security forces canvassing the city. The remnants of a grad rocket were eventually found on a residential construction site.

The defense establishment believes the fire emanated from Sinai. The police said that so far, no special security orders have been issued for residents and tourists.

One resident, Guy, said he heard three blasts and sirens blaring. Another resident reported hearing a loud blast shortly after midnight.

Over the past few years, several Katyusha rockets have been fire from Sinai at Eilat. Several rockets were fired at the city two years ago.

 In August 2010, five rockets exploded in Eilat and Aqaba. A Jordanian taxi driver was killed and several were injured in Aqaba. There were no injuries in Israel.

 Last August, a deadly terror attack near Eilat claimed the lives of 8 people.
