DEBKAfile Exclusive Report June 18, 2013, 9:55 AM (IDT)

NATO and a number of European governments, most significantly the UK,
have started airlifting heavy weapons to the Syrian rebels poised in
Aleppo to fend off a major Syrian army offensive, according to debkafile's
exclusive military sources. They disclose that the first shipments were
landed Monday night, June 17, and early Tuesday in Turkey and Jordan.
They contained anti-air and tank missiles as well as recoilless 120 mm
cannons mounted on jeeps. From there, they were transferred to rebel
forces in southern Syria and Aleppo in the northwest.

Our sources report that the first weapons reached rebel-held
positions in Aleppo early Tuesday. More than 2,000 Hizballah troops are
standing by to enter the decisive contest between Assad's army and the
opposition for control of Syria's second most important city.

The hardware for the rebels is coming in from three sources:

1. NATO stores in Europe, which have been filling up in the past year
with arms evacuated from Afghanistan. These weapons have been in
operational use and are not new.

2. The Libyan black market.

3. The Balkan black market, chiefly Serbia and Montenegro.

Monday, Syrian President Bashar Assad cautioned Europe it would pay the
price for delivering arms to rebel forces in Syria. In an interview to
the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , he said: "If the Europeans deliver weapons, the backyard of Europe will become terrorist..."

The volume of the new arms airlift to the Syrian rebels may be
estimated by the number of airfreight flights from Libya to Turkey: 27
aircraft landings were counted in the last few days, according to our
intelligence sources.

This major Western policy reversal on the arming of the Syrian
opposition - combined with the Obama administration's decision last week
to provide the rebels with military aid - was graphically registered in
the glum miens of Presidents Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin at their
meeting Monday on the first day of the G8 summit in Northern Ireland.
Beyond exchanging bare courtesies, neither concealed the deep rift
between them on Syria - even in the presence of reporters and TV
cameras.

Tuesday, the Group of Eight had its work cut out to formulate a Syrian
item in its final communiqu'e that would be acceptable to all seven plus
the Russian president. However, in Syria itself, all the signs
portend the prolongation of the conflict: Russia is expected to
respond to Western arms supplies to the rebels by ramping up its own
military assistance to the Assad regime.

The word from Moscow Tuesday was that if the West does try to impose a
no-fly zone over Syria, Russian flights will continue, in defiance of
any such restrictions.

25 militants killed in Afghan operations: gov't

  English.news.cn 2013-06-19 18:56:29

KABUL, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-five Taliban militants have been
killed and 14 wounded in a series of military operations in Afghanistan,
said the country's Interior Ministry on Wednesday.
"Afghan National Police (ANP) with the cooperation with the army,
intelligence agency and the NATO-led coalition forces conducted several
cleanup operations in Kandahar, Zabul, Wardak, Ghazni, Farah and Nimroz
provinces, as a result 21 armed Taliban were killed, 12 wounded and four
other armed Taliban were arrested, " the ministry said in a statement.
The ANP also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without
saying if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.
In addition four Taliban were killed, two wounded and six others
detained when the ANP launched a raid in Surkh Rod district in the
country's eastern province of Nangarhar earlier on Wednesday, the deputy
provincial police chief Masom Hashimi told Xinhua.
He said three ANP cops were also wounded in the operation.

The Afghan security forces in partnership with the NATO-led coalition
troops have intensified operations against Taliban and other militant
groups recently. But the insurgent groups responded by bombings and
armed attacks. The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an
insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments.

Washington Is Insane

Washington Is Insane

Paul Craig Roberts

In the 21st century the two hundred year-old propaganda that the American people control their government has been completely shattered. Both the Bush and Obama regimes have made it unmistakenly clear that the American people don't even influence, much less control, the government. As far as Washington is concerned, the people are nothing but chaff in the wind.

Polls demonstrate that 65% of the US population opposes US intervention in Syria. Despite this clear indication of the people's will, the Obama regime is ramping up a propaganda case for more arming of Washington's mercenaries sent to overthrow the secular Syrian government and for a "no-fly zone" over Syria, which, if Libya is the example, means US or NATO aircraft attacking the Syrian army on the ground, thus serving as the air force of Washington's imported mercenaries, euphemistically called "the Syrian rebels."

Washington declared some time ago that the "red line" that would bring Syria under Washington's military attack was the Assad government's use of chemical weapons of mass destruction against Washington's mercenaries. Once this announcement was made, everyone with a brain immediately knew that Washington would fabricate false intelligence that Assad had used chemical weapons, just as Washington presented to the United Nations the intentional lie via Secretary of State Colin Powell that Saddam Hussein in Iraq had dangerous weapons of mass destruction. Remember National Security Advisor Condi Rice's image of a "mushroom cloud over American cities?" Propagandistic lies were Washington's orders of the day.

And they still are. Now Washington has fabricated the false intelligence, and president obama has announced it with a straight face, that Syria's Assad has used sarin gas on several occasions and that between 100 and 150 "of his own people," a euphemism for the US supplied foreign mercenaries, have been killed by the weapon of mass destruction.

Think about that for a minute. As unfortunate as is any death from war, is 100-150 deaths "mass destruction?" According to low-ball estimates, the US-sponsored foreign mercenary invasion of Syria has cost 93,000 lives, of which 150 deaths amounts to 0.0016 or sixteen hundredths of one percent.

In other words, 92,850 of the deaths did not cross the "red line." But 150 did, allegedly.

Yes, I know. Washington's position makes no sense. But when has it ever made any sense?

Let's stretch our minds just a tiny bit farther. Assad knows about Washington's "red line." It has been repeated over and over in order to create in the minds of the distracted American public that there is a real, valid reason for attacking Syria. Why would Assad use the proscribed weapons of mass destruction in order to kill a measly 100-150 mercenaries when his army is mopping up the US mercenaries without the use of gas and when Assad knows that the use of gas brings in the US military against him?

As the Russian government made clear, Washington's accusation is not believable. No informed person could possibly believe it. No doubt, many Americans wearing patriotism on their sleeves will fall for Washington's latest lie, but no one else in the world will. Even Washington's NATO puppets calling for attacking Syria know that the justification for the attack is a lie. For the NATO puppets, Washington's money overwhelms integrity, for which the rewards are low.

The Russians certainly know that Washington is lying. The Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said: "The government, as the opposition is saying openly, is enjoying military success on the ground. The regime isn't driven to the wall. What sense is there for the regime to use chemical arms-especially in such small amounts."

Lavrov is a relatively civilized person in the role of Russia's main diplomat. However, other Russian officials can be more pointed in their dismissal of Washington's latest blatant lies. Yury Ushakov, an aide to Russian President Putin said: "The Americans tried to present us with information on the use of chemical weapons by the regime, but frankly we thought that it was not convincing. We wouldn't like to invoke references to Secretary of State Powell , but the facts don't look convincing in our eyes." Aleksey Pushkov, the chairman of the Russian Duma's Foreign Affairs Committee, cut to the chase. "The data about Assad's use of chemical weapons is fabricated by the same facility that made up the lies about Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction. Obama is walking George W. Bush's path."

Here in America no one will ever hear straight talk like this from the US presstitutes.

Orwellian double-speak is now the language of the United States government. Secretary of State john kerry condemned Assad for harming "peace talks" while the US arms its Syrian mercenaries.

Washington's double-speak is now obvious to the world. Not only Assad, but also the Russians, Chinese, Iranians, and every US puppet state which includes all of NATO and Japan, are fully aware that Washington is again lying through its teeth. The Russians, Chinese, and Iranians are trying to avoid confrontation with Washington, as war with the modern nuclear weapons would destroy all life on planet earth. What is striking is that despite 24/7 brainwashing by the presstitutes, a large majority of the American population opposes obama's war on Syria.

This is good news. It means more Americans are developing the ability to think independently of the lies Washington feeds to them.

What the neocon nazis, the bush/obama regime, and the presstitute media have made
clear is that Washington is going to push its agenda of world hegemony to the point of
starting World War III, which, of course, means the end of life on earth.

Russia and China, either one of which can destroy the United States, have learned that the US government is a liar and cannot be trusted. The Libyan "no-fly" policy to which Russia and China agreed turned out to be a NATO air attack on the Libyan army so that the CIA-sponsored mercenaries could prevail.

Russia and China, having learned their lesson, are protesting Washington's assault on Syria that Washington pretends is a "civil war." If Syria falls, Russia and China know that Iran is next.

Iran is Russia's underbelly, and for China Iran is 20% of its energy imports. Both Russian and Chinese governments know that after Iran falls, they are next. There is no other explanation for Washington surrounding Russia with missile bases and surrounding China with naval and air bases.

Both Russia and China are now preparing for the war that they see as inevitable. Washington's crazed, demented drive for world hegemony is bringing unsuspecting Americans up against two countries with hydrogen bombs whose combined population is five times the US population. In such a conflict everyone dies.

Considering the utterly insane government ruling in Washington, if human life exists in 2020, it will be a miracle. All the worry about future Medicare and Social Security deficits is meaningless. There will be no one here to collect the benefits.

Taliban: We killed 4 U.S. troops at Afghan air base

KABUL, Afghanistan The Taliban claimed responsibility Wednesday for an attack in Afghanistan that killed four American troops just hours after the insurgent group announced it would hold talks with the U.S. on finding a political solution to ending the nearly 12-year war in the country.

The deadly attack underscores the challenges ahead in trying to end the violence roiling Afghanistan via peace negotiations in Qatar with militants still fighting on the ground.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said the insurgents fired two rockets into the Bagram Air Base outside the Afghan capital, Kabul, late on Tuesday. American officials confirmed the base had come under attack by indirect fire -- likely a mortar or rocket -- and that four U.S. troops were killed.

The attack came as the Taliban opened a political office in the Qatari capital of Doha, and announced they were ready for peace talks. The decision was a reversal of months of failed efforts to start negotiations while Taliban militants intensified a campaign targeting urban centers and government installations across Afghanistan.

The Taliban announcement followed a milestone handover in Afghanistan earlier Tuesday, as Afghan forces formally took the lead from the U.S.-led NATO coalition for security nationwide. It marked a turning point for American and NATO military forces, which will now move entirely into a supporting role. It also opened the way for the withdrawal of most foreign troops in 18 months.

President Obama cautioned that the peace talks with the Taliban would be neither quick nor easy, but called their opening a political office in Doha was an "important first step toward reconciliation" between the Islamic militants and the government of Afghanistan.

In setting up the office, the Taliban said they were willing to use all legal means to end what they called the occupation of Afghanistan -- but did not say they would immediately stop fighting.

American officials said the U.S. and Taliban representatives will hold bilateral meetings in coming days. Afghan President Hamid Karzai's High Peace Council is expected to follow up with its own talks with the Taliban a few days later.

Source: Worldtribune

It's now no longer a mystery or a subject of debate, even the NATO documents confirmed that 70% of Syrians support their legitimate government, while 20% are neutral and 10% only support the rebels , or should we call them what they are: the foreign & foreign-sponsored mercenaries.

According to the article, the regime is winning thanks to the support of the population, who reject and hate the barbaric jihadi fighters more than they ever hated or rejected their own government.

Since the start of the foreign coup, two years ago, everybody in the (aligned) world pretended to be caring about Syrians, and called it a humanitarian duty to save them from Assad. But did anyone ever care enough to ask them what they want?
Who are obama, or king abdullah, or emir khalifa to speak for the Syrian people? To decide in their place what's best for them? And, best of all, expect them to be grateful for bringing them "democracy" ?

We see the "democracies" that the two latter have at home, and the one the former imposed in Iraq, and we're tired to be lied to and taken for dummies.

This photo was taken in October 2011, already then the people massively supported Bachar but were ignored by world powers and sidelined in western medias.

LONDON - After two years of civil war, support for the regime of
Syrian President Bashar Assad was said to have sharply increased.

NATO has been studying data that told of a sharp rise in support for
Assad. The data, compiled by Western-sponsored activists and organizations,
showed that a majority of Syrians were alarmed by the Al Qaida takeover of
the Sunni revolt and preferred to return to Assad, Middle East Newsline reported.

"The people are sick of the war and hate the jihadists more than Assad,"
a Western source familiar with the data said. "Assad is winning the war
mostly because the people are cooperating with him against the rebels."

The data, relayed to NATO over the last month, asserted that 70 percent of Syrians support the Assad regime. Another 20 percent were deemed neutral and the remaining 10 percent expressed support for the rebels.

The sources said no formal polling was taken in Syria, racked by two
years of civil war in which 90,000 people were reported killed. They said
the data came from a range of activists and independent organizations that
were working in Syria, particularly in relief efforts.

The data was relayed to NATO as the Western alliance has been divided
over whether to intervene in Syria. Britain and France were said to have
been preparing to send weapons to the rebels while the United States was
focusing on protecting Syria's southern neighbour Jordan.

A report to NATO said Syrians have undergone a change of heart over the
last six months. The change was seen most in the majority Sunni community,
which was long thought to have supported the revolt.

"The Sunnis have no love for Assad, but the great majority of the
community is withdrawing from the revolt," the source said. "What is left is
the foreign fighters who are sponsored by Qatar and Saudi Arabia. They are
seen by the Sunnis as far worse than Assad."

A NATO analysis shows that about 70% of the population are supporting Assad and the government, 20% remain neutral while about 10% are supporting the rebels.

An western source summarize the data with:
"The people are sick of the war and hate the jihadists more than Assad,"
and:
"Assad is winning the war mostly because the people are cooperating with him against the rebels."

Defeated US to join direct peace talks in Qatar with Taliban over Afghanistan's future

guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 18 June 2013

'Peace and reconciliation' milestone comes after US drops request for formal rejection of al-Qaida as precondition to talks

Photograph: Omar Sobhani/ReutersThe US is to open direct talks with Taliban leaders within days, it was revealed on Tuesday, after Washington agreed to drop a series of preconditions that have previously held back negotiations over the future of Afghanistan.

In a major milestone in the 12-year-old war, political representatives of the Taliban will shortly meet Afghan and US officials in Doha, the capital of Qatar, to discuss an agenda for what US officials called "peace and reconciliation" before further talks take place with Afghan government representatives soon after.

The Taliban, in a statement announcing their plans for peace talks and an office in Qatar, said they would not allow anyone to threaten or harm other countries from Afghan soil - a move senior US administration officials described as an important first step to the Taliban severing ties with al-Qaida.

The US has agreed that a formal rejection of al-Qaida by the Taliban leadership would now be a "negotiating aim" rather than a precondition for talks. It will also seek a commitment from the Taliban to end its insurgency in Afghanistan and recognise women's rights in the country.

"This is an important first step but it will be a long road," said one senior US official. "We have long said this conflict won't be won on the battlefield, which is why we support the opening of this office."

White House officials say they believe the Taliban delegation at the talks represents the movement's leadership, and includes more radical groups such as the Haqqani network. Officials said the US would have a direct role in the talks starting starting this week in Doha, but the substantive negotiations over the future of Afghanistan would then be led by the Afghan government.

Speaking later, Ben Rhodes, deputy national security adviser, said: "TheUnited States will be supporting a process that is fundamentally Afghan-led ... We can play a role in talking to the Taliban as well in supporting that peace process - and because we have issues of our own to bring up with them."

A Taliban spokesman said the group was opening the Doha office to "reach understanding and initiate talks with countries of the world for the purpose of improving relations with them", and to support a peaceful, political solution to end the "occupation of Afghanistan".

The proposal for a Doha office has been on the table since 2011, and several senior Taliban figures have been living in Qatar for many months now, but the group had not publicly embraced plans for peace talks.

In Kabul, Afghan president Hamid Karzai said he hoped the opening of the Taliban office would bring the start of talks between the High Peace Council he set up to lead government negotiation efforts, and the insurgents.

However the Afghan leader who has long been lukewarm about efforts to set up a Taliban base in Kabul also called for any negotiations to move back to Afghanistan as soon as possible. "We hope that our brothers the Taliban also understand that the process will move to our country soon," he told a news conference in Kabul, although US officials stressed that moving talks to Afghanistan would take time.

Karzai also announced that Nato forces had handed official control of nationwide security to Afghan troops on Tuesday. Foreign soldiers will still be fighting on the ground and supporting Afghans with air power, medical evacuation and other key capacities until the end of next year.

Barack Obama is understood to have informed G8 leaders of the breakthrough at a dinner at the Northern Ireland summit on Monday night.

The deal on talks with the Taliban was partly brokered by Pakistan and the emir of Qatar after "months of diplomatic spadework" also involving Germany, Norway and the UK. In 2011, Hillary Clinton suggested that Taliban leaders would have to renounce violence for a peace process to work.

"Over the past two years, we have laid out our unambiguous red lines for reconciliation with the insurgents: they must renounce violence; they must abandon their alliance with al-Qaida; and they must abide by the constitution of Afghanistan," she said. "Those are necessary outcomes of any negotiation. This is the price for reaching a political resolution and bringing an end to the military actions that are targeting their leadership and decimating their ranks."

But on Tuesday, that position appeared to have soften somewhat. "We don't expect them to break ties with al-Qaida ," said one of the US officials speaking on an off-the-record conference call. "That is an outcome of the process." He said the expected Taliban statement opposing the use of Afghan soil for foreign attacks was "a first step in distancing them from international terrorism".

The Taliban also appeared to have softened on their long-term demand that foreign troops leave before talks can start. Karzai, despite his misgivings about overseas talks and initial opposition to the Qatar office visited the Gulf state twice this year, apparently paving the way for Tuesday's breakthrough.

Afghan president Hamid Karzai, who has always said he would prefer talks to take place in Afghanistan, was initially lukewarm about the Qatar plans, but has visited the state twice this year, apparently paving the way for today's breakthrough.

FUKUS: Cameron refers to Russian "regime" on Russia Day

"Regime". A wonderful word conjured up by the biased media controlled by the FUKUS Axis (France-UK-US). One of the wonderful list of words conjured up to create negative images, often associated to "dictators", always the enemies of the lobbies which control western governments, even unelected ones. Google Cameron and Banking. Diplomacy rules...

David Cameron stated in the House of Commons today that the Russian regime has been arming the Syrian regime for decades. Regime, eh? And did the Russian "regime" invade Iraq illegally? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" collude with those who maintained prison camps, concentration camps and torture camps? Thought not.

Did the Russian "regime" torture prisoners, illegal detainees in Iraq? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" torture kids in Afghanistan? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" send the Mujaheddin into southern Afghanistan to sabotage the socially progressive government, which was forced to ask the USSR for help? Thought not.

Did the Russian "regime" invade Libya? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" open a torture camp in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" support terrorist groups in Libya on its own lists of proscribed groups? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" use military equipment to destroy civilian structures in Yugoslavia? Thought not.

Did the Russian "regime" strafe Yugoslavia with Depleted Uranium? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" deploy illegal weaponry in Iraq, leaving hundreds of thousands of children handicapped or incapacitated? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" strafe Iraqi crops with military aircraft? Thought not.

Did the Russian "regime" draw up lists of Babylonian artifacts to be stolen by NATO troops? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" lie about Iraq's military programme? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" lie about Saddam Hussein's procurement of yellowcake uranium from Niger? Thought not.

Did the Russian "regime" copy and paste a thesis from the Internet to sex up the odds against Iraq? Thought not. Did

the Russian "regime" sell military equipment to Indonesia, ignoring that the "regime" was slaughtering the Maubere population? Thought not.

Did the Russian "regime" target the Gaddafi grandchildren as "legitimate targets"? Thought not. Did the Russian "regime" place boots on the ground in Libya after signing UNSC 1970 and 1973 (2011) forbidding such a mission creep? Thought not.

Conclusion: If the Russian Government believes one single word the British "regime" utters, if the Russian Government accepts one letter of what the British "regime" presents in a document or treaty, is it sane?

Thought not.

Influential American show hosts and political commentators ranging from the conservative Glenn Beck on the Right to the liberal Bill Maher on the Left have been vocal about their opposition to the Obama administration getting involved in the Syrian crisis by arming the so-called "Syrian rebels" who are closely associated with al-Qaeda. They both use the video of cannibal "Free Syrian Army" (FSA) commander, Abu Saqqar, eating the heart of a dead Syrian soldier as the basis of showing the extent of the savagery and inhumanity of the people that the Obama administration intends to arm.
