Early Bjork in an obvious Icelandic homage to the B-52's.
I found this cassette tape of them in a dollar bin having never heard of them before and fell in love with her odd and quirky voice and it was just so different than anything I had heard at the time.
I don't remember if I was a B-52's fan at the time but I don't think so.
I hated them when they came out because I was a rock snob playing in a cool rock band and they were "too poppy".
It wasn't till much later I learned they are just fun.
Other bands I hated when they came out but later loved were, if you can believe this
The Talking Heads
Tom Petty and the heart breakers
Elvis Costello
Being a rock snob sucked and kept me closed off from a lot of great music for a long time.
Luckily we have the option of going back to enjoy music we may not have had access to or perhaps not appreciated.

Mexico's active Popocatepetl volcano has registered a massive explosion spewing ash and incandescent rock almost 4 kilometers high. Authorities have warned that winds could blow the ash cloud as far away as Mexico City.

Inhabitants of villages up to 25 kilometers from Popocatepetl (colloquially known as 'Don Popo') rushed out of their houses when the massive explosion reverberated through their homes.

because his show introduction features white people, or because he plays

How Long Will Shale Oil Last?

June 16, 2013
Many experts have hailed shale oil and gas as a game-changer for the U.S. economy. The application of new drilling techniques has led to an unprecedented surge in domestic oil production, prompting many to conclude that U.S. energy independence may be just around the corner.

But shale oil, like most other natural resources, is a finite resource. Some skeptics have even pointed out that shale wells exhibit much steeper decline rates than conventional wells, which, they suggest, implies that the boom could fizzle out much sooner than mainstream commentators believe.

So just how long could shale oil last?

A decade of global shale oil
According to a new study by the, the world has enough shale resources to satisfy more than a decade of global oil consumption. The report, which marked the first time the department has assessed the size of global shale resources, pegged technically recoverable shale oil resources at 345 billion barrels, or about 10% of global crude oil supplies.

The study surveyed shale reserves in more than 40 countries and determined that Russia had the world's largest shale oil reserves, at around 75 billion barrels. The U.S. was second with about 58 billion barrels. Rounding out third, fourth, and fifth places were China, at 38 billion, Argentina, at 27 billion, and Libya, at 26 billion.

However, the report considered only resources that were deemed technically recoverable -- meaning those that can be extracted using current exploration and production technology -- without taking into account cost and profitability. It further left out prospective shale areas, such as those underneath major oilfields in the Middle East and the Caspian Sea region, and cautioned that its estimates are "highly uncertain."

North American success with shale
Though the new estimates are encouraging, there are a few important points to consider. First and foremost, it's unclear whether North American success in shale drilling can be replicated around the world. Thus far, only the U.S. and Canada have managed to extract commercial quantities of oil and gas from shale formations.

The main reason for this has been the large-scale application of new technologies, such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," that have allowed producers to more easily coax oil and gas from dense rock formations. Though oilfield services firm Halliburton was the first company to use hydraulic fracturing commercially to recover oil and gas all the way back in 1949, the practice didn't become widespread until just about half a decade ago.

Now, Chesapeake Energy is one company using the technique in popular oil plays, such as Texas' Eagle Ford, where it has been met with considerable success. In the first quarter, the company reported a staggering 225% year-over-year increase in daily net Eagle Ford production, which came in at 75,000 barrels of oil equivalent. Some companies are even finding innovative new ways to power their fracking operations.

After Range Resources paved the way by becoming the first company to apply hydraulic fracturing techniques to recover natural gas in the Marcellus shale of Pennsylvania, Cabot Oil & Gas followed in its pioneering footsteps by recently becoming the first company to use "field" natural gas in northeastern Pennsylvania to fracture wells ---a feat it accomplished by using engines that can run on either natural gas or diesel.

Can North American shale success be copied?
However, it's unclear whether U.S. and Canadian success in shale drilling can be replicated in other countries with large shale resources. In addition to having pioneered new drilling technologies, U.S. and Canadian energy producers enjoy several key advantages that their international counterparts do not yet possess.

Chief among them is the presence of a sophisticated and extensive infrastructure network, consisting mainly of pipelines and storage terminals. In addition, U.S. and Canadian energy producers have preferential access to crucial ingredients in the fracking process, such as specialized drilling rigs and plenty of water, as well as clearly established and enforceable property rights.

One company that was a true pioneer and driving force behind the U.S. shale revolution is Chesapeake Energy. While debt-related challenges continue to cast a dark cloud of uncertainty over Chesapeake's future, few would question the superb quality of its remaining oil and gas assets.

LONDON, June 16
Sun Jun 16, 2013 2:00pm EDT(Reuters) - The British rock band Black Sabbath's album "13!" has given them a first British Number One album in nearly 43 years, a record interval between chart-toppers, the Official Charts Company said on Sunday.

Black Sabbath were last at the top of the UK chart with their second album, "Paranoid".

"I'm in shock!" Black Sabbath front man Ozzy Osbourne told the Official Charts Company. "The success of this album has blown me off my feet. We've never had a record climb the charts so fast."

The band saw off competition from Liam Gallagher's band Beady Eye, in second place with "BE".

In the singles chart, American R&B singer Robin Thicke made it three weeks on top with "Blurred Lines".

The song, featuring rapper TI and Pharrell Williams, has sold over 580,000 copies, making it the fifth-best selling single of 2013.

"La La La" by the British rapper Naughty Boy, featuring singer Sam Smith, remained in the number two spot.

The planned high-level inter-Korean talks were called off at the last minute over seemingly minor protocol discord, and I doubt that the recent attempts by the rival Koreas to resume talks will ever succeed. This is because North Korea is very unpredictable. The planned talks were called off at the last minute due to what appeared to be a minor protocol dispute - how high the grade of their respective chief delegates should be.In an interview, the Swiss delegation head of the NNSC, Urs Gerber, said that one thing he learned was that the only thing that is predictable about North Korea is that it is unpredictable. With this reputation, North Korea's credibility is hitting rock bottom.

Agenda of Capitalist G8 summit in Ireland

Agenda of Capitalist G8 summit in Ireland

Capitalist regimes, now engaged in illegal terror wars known as World War III, keep meeting in varying disguises in western towns to advance their resource hunt goals, globally.

G8 comprises top terrocracies like Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the US and the UK.

The G8 summit - a meeting of eight global war leaders to address international issues - takes place in Loch Erne, County Fermanagh of UK's Northern Ireland on 17-18 June.

Economy, military, technology and political manipulations remains the items on their summit agenda. These big rogue states that try to destabilize Syria by attacking and occupying that Muslim and energy rich nation would target Syria in the summit.

CIA agents bluff about chemical weapons in Syria to fool the world. On the ground in Syria, there have been reports of the fiercest fighting in months in the country's largest city, Aleppo. The UN said that two years of conflict had killed at least 93,000 people.

Differences over Syria have added to the already delicate state of UK-Russian relations. On the sidelines of the summit, David Cameron is due to hold talks in London with Russian President Vladimir Putin - expected to focus on the Syria conflict - before the two leaders fly to Northern Ireland for the G8 summit. Russia is a long-time backer of the regime, while the UK has repeatedly condemned President Bashar al-Assad.

The two leaders might choose to focus on where they could agree like the need for a political transition in Syria and preparations for an international conference in Geneva to get this process going. But the chances of such a conference were looking bleaker by the day. Cameron will also meet US President Barack Obama ahead of the summit. Cameron has insisted that more must be done to help them - but said the UK had taken no decision about arms.

Moscow could now go ahead with plans to provide sophisticated new air defences to the Syrian regime. Russia has made it clear it is deeply sceptical about US, British and French claims that the Syrian military has used chemical weapons against the rebels. The US said last week this had crossed a "red line" set down by Obama and Washington would now supply weapons to the rebels.

There was a major security presence for an anti-G8 protest in Belfast. The anti-capitalist demonstration was staged ahead of the two-day global summit, which will see the leaders of some of the world's most powerful countries gather at the Lough Erne resort for talks. The rally was organised by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, ahead of next week's G8 summit in County Fermanagh. The ICTU said one billion people were living in "extreme poverty" around the world, due to Western capitalism and the policies of the G8 leaders. The rally passed off peacefully and no arrests were made.

Addressing protesters at the Belfast City Hall rally, ICTU chairperson Pamela Dooley said: "There is an obligation on the trade union movement and civil society to stand together to demand a different and better way." Dooley said the G8 leaders did not have consent "to force their damaging policies on the rest of us". Unemployment has risen to unprecedented levels on the island of Ireland. In the Irish Republic prosperity for working people is over while in Northern Ireland almost one third of the population is classed as economically inactive."We know that we are facing the consequences of a corrupt capitalist system bereft of moral standards", Ms Dooley said.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International said the G8 leaders were "undermining their credentials as global leaders due to human rights violations in their own countries". It called on the US government to close its military prison at Guantanamo Bay and called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to release jailed members of rock band, Pussy Riot.

Decisions need to be made to begin the process of ending world hunger. It is time to put the long term future of the planet first - and develop a clean energy future we can all afford. G8 nations should be taking the lead in tackling climate change, instead of driving forward policies that keep their economies hooked on dirty, damaging and increasingly costly fossil fuels. People across the UK, including Northern Ireland, are rightly concerned about the threat fracking poses to their communities, local environment and the global climate.

Capitalism promoting fascism is a system which puts profit before people and always will. It is a system for the few and not for the many and seeks terror wars to loot global resources. Mass leaderships globally should come out with credible alternative proposals which can create a fair and just world.

Terror wars are the key tools employed by capitalist-imperialist forces to pursue their hidden resources agenda.

The global anti-humanity media (GAM) owned by capitalists promote capitalist loots.

Morphine was formed in 1990 by bassist/vocalist Mark Sandman, who had previously played with the bluesy alternative rock band Treat Her Right, and Dana Colley (tenor and baritone saxophone), a former member of the local Boston group Three Colors. Sandman and Colley added drummer Jerome Dupree to complete the lineup. The group released its debut album, Good, on the independent Accurate/Distortion label in 1991; it was reissued on Rykodisc Records in 1992. Good received substantial airplay on American college radio stations, as well as favorable reviews in alternative publications across the country. After the release of Good, Dupree left the band and was replaced by Billy Conway, who had previously played with Sandman in Treat Her Right.
