KREM.com (Spokane, WA)

Spokane police gave a 63-year-old woman a junior police badge for holding an intruder at gunpoint after he smashed his way into her home.

Friends of Sandra Mize told The Spokesman-Review that she's soft spoken with a friendly laugh but they wouldn't cross the grandmother of 10.

Mize keeps a gun by her bed and hadn't fired it in 30 years until early Wednesday when she found the man in her home.

She fired one shot that missed. The intruder sat down and waited while Mize called police, although he fought with officers who arrived and arrested him.

SPOKANE -- Police are investigating the death of a man who barricaded himself inside a North Spokane Taco Bell cooler.
According to Spokane Police, the man walked into the fast-food restaurant at Boone and Monroe around 8:00 p.m. Monday night, and barricaded himself inside a large walk-in cooler.
Employees called 911.
When police arrived, they had to dismantle the heavy door of the cooler to get it open. Inside, they found Richard Thomas, 42, dead.
Officers said Thomas' body showed no apparent signs of violence, and they do not believe he died as a result of exposure to cold.
Officers will look at autopsy results to point to a definitive cause of death.

SPOKANE, Wash., Dec. 1 (UPI) -- A spokeswoman for a Washington city postulates packed-in snow might be responsible for a crosswalk sign flipping pedestrians the bird.

Spokane spokeswoman Marlene Feist said city Streets Department workers believe snow packed into the electronic sign appears to be the reason only the middle finger seems upraised when the "Don't Walk" hand appears, Spokane's KXLY-TV reported Wednesday.

Feist said the Streets Department does not know when the display, which Feist described as "unintentional," would be corrected as workers are currently preoccupied with clearing snow from the roads.

Meghann M. Cuniff The Spokesman-Review

She showed up at weddings uninvited, mingled with guests and never left empty-handed.

A Spokane woman's wedding-crashing scheme unraveled last summer when an old high school classmate - and off-duty police officer - recognized her at a wedding where she wasn't an invited guest.

When the hosts discovered missing gifts, they realized they'd been looted.

Now Pamula W. McBride, 46, will serve 45 days in jail for stealing gift cards and personal checks from a wedding in Nez Perce County, Idaho, last June.

Police also suspect McBride stole similar items from the gift table at Scott Drago's wedding reception at Cataldo Hall on the Gonzaga University campus July 18, nearly one month after she stole from a wedding at the Lewiston Elks Lodge.

"We had so many guests at the wedding that we didn't really notice until we went to open gifts the following day," Drago said. "You don't get very many gifts and you're wondering, 'Gee, something's wrong here.' "

McBride, who did not return a cell phone message seeking comment, was sentenced Thursday in Nez Perce County District Court for felony grand theft stemming from the Lewiston incident. She has until March 6 to report to jail.

Police tracked McBride through stolen gift cards after the Lewiston wedding party noticed missing gifts and the off-duty police officer told them he'd seen a high school classmate who seemed nervous when he asked what she was doing.

The hosts gave police descriptions of possible stolen gift cards, and stores were asked to watch for them. Soon, Macy's, Costco and Home Depot reported a woman using the stolen cards. In at least one case, she showed her driver's license.

The cards had been purchased with credit cards, so police were able to locate the original buyers and confirm that the cards were meant for the newlyweds and not McBride.

When police learned of additional stolen cards, they tracked down the buyers and learned of the Drago wedding in Spokane.

Police contacted Drago and his bride, Elisa, on their honeymoon in Hawaii and told them of the stolen cards.

"It took at least three full days of just tracking people down and all that kind of stuff," said Spokane Police Officer Brian Eckersley. "It made a solid case for Idaho."

Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick mentioned Eckersley's work on the case when he won the city of Spokane's employee of the month award this month.

In an interview with Eckersley last summer, McBride confessed to the thefts and said she'd been feeling depressed and didn't know why she'd done it.

"Pamula said she was embarrassed about what she did and does not have a good reason for it," Eckersley wrote, according to court documents.

She first told Eckersley she'd received the gift cards as a bonus from her employer, but then confessed they were stolen, according to court documents.

Eckersley found envelopes addressed to the Dragos in McBride's SUV.

Police were able to return some of the cards to the victims by returning the items McBride had purchased with the stolen cards, then reimbursing the cards.

Drago, who lives in Rosalia, Wash., said the case has made him and his friends more cautious.

"Boy, if you have a wedding, you've got to make sure that you have somebody watching your gifts," he said. "I know if we go to a wedding, we'll just send the gift to the house a few days later."

Liquid Transformations - The Coolest Gun and General Item Custom Paint Shop in the Region

I live in Spokane, WA and while reading through the local boards, I came across a group of guys who run this business called Liquid Transformations . I checked out their website and the quality of work they did looked awesome, so I took my lunch break one day to go down and check out their shop.

I originally went to meet SGT member RLHas, whom I had been talking with, he was out, but I was greeted by Steve Waters and the rest of the team there. I told him I saw their website and was really interested in the custom hydrographic printing/painting services they did and Steve was nice enough to take me behind the counter and show me around the shop.

I felt like a kid in a candy store! There were uppers, lowers, foregrips, mags, fully disassembled firearms, car and bike parts, all getting treated with insane detail. Steve walked me through the hydrographic printing process, showed me the prints, explained how they put them in the chemical bath (live streaming "dip camera"), and demonstrated how detail oriented everything was. I had to put my eye dam near over the seam to be able to tell there was even one there in most cases.

Not only do they do all the custom painting and printing, but LT is also a fully operational FFL with gunsmith (RLHas). So if you're in the Spokane area and need a place on the North East side to do transfers and tune ups, it's a pretty convenient place to go (just a few blocks East from Francis and Nevada).

Everyone there was extremely nice and approachable and very passionate about the work they do. There may be other businesses in the region that do work similar to LT, but I highly doubt that they can match the quality or array of services offered. These guys are one of those "diamond in the rough" businesses that not many people are very aware of, but they definitely should be.

I look forward to heading back over there in the near future with my video camera and getting a chance to talk to all these guys again and show off all the cool work they do on my youtube channel . So if you get a chance, check them out or stop on by if you're in the area, you won't regret it!

STORY:

SPOKANE, WASHINGTON:

"A male student at Garfield-Palouse High School in Palouse is a cheerleader but he isn't content with doing typical male cheerleader stunts. He wants to do the same dances and kicks and fist pumps as the females, but his mom says school administrators are discriminating against him and preventing him from cheering.
