In 2009, the execise "Advanced Tactical Leadership Course" in United Arab Emirates, saw fights between the latest western aircrafts : F22 Raptor, Eurofighter Typhoon and Rafale.

One of these exercises was confrontating 4 rafales to 4 typhoons.
- 4 kills to 0 in the first match - 4 to 1 in the second.

When facing the F22 in "one on one", 6 duels saw 5 draws, and 1 victory for the Raptor.
A US Air Force officer stated that "the F22 were dogfighting with external tanks, reducing their maneuvering capabilities".

4 years later, this video of F22 vs Rafale, taken from the Rafale OSF, emerges on Youtube, thanks to "H." and http://portail-aviation.blogspot.fr/

TL;DR :
- 0' - 2'20 : explainations (in french)
- 2'20 - 4'50 : dogfight
- 4'50 - end : simulated canon kill

Viral video straps colt .45 hand<span class="highlight">gun</span> to a home-use drone

A new viral video has shown that arming drones isn't just a pastime for governments, as hobbyists are now getting in on the game. The video, posted on YouTube , showed a Taurus Judge .45 Colt handgun attached to the underbelly of a custom-made carbon-fiber octocopter, with the gun operated by a remote control trigger (a set-up that is illegal in its own right, not just when attached to a drone).

Although the video was created in order to advertise a range a range of protective smartphone screens by ClearPlex (the objects the drone shoots includes a Samsung handset), the ready availability of all these technologies in the US makes the drone's creation more than just a matter of viral advertising.

Commentators have pointed out that the video is so heavily edited that we never actually see the drone fire and hit an object in a single shot, and so the system might be just too inaccurate to work.

The video also invites viewers to draw connection with the recent development of 3D printed weapons, the combination of which would certainly be of concern to law enforcement agencies.

Chicago; More than 50 people shot since Friday

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -The last several days in Chicago have been especially violent bringing the issue to what some would call a "tipping point." More than 50 people have been shot since Friday. But what can be done to stem the violence?

State Rep. Ken Dunkin, whose constituents live in the shooting-plagued neighborhoods, and Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church, weighed in on steps toward a solution for Good Day Chicago on Tuesday.

The detectives in the district housing the intersection of 51st and Wentworth are some of the best in the country, and have been inundated with cases due to the escalating violence in Chicago. Still, the Chicago Police Department says the number incidents compared to the same time last year are decreasing.

State Rep. Ken Dunkin's constituents live in Englewood and other areas of the city that are currently plagued with shootings. He said the reports are hard for people to understand.

"It's very difficult to understand first why we're having crimes with young people in general across the city. The police have jobs, an image to protect. Higher ups I'm sure are concerned about their boss - which is us," Rep. Dunkin said. "We need protection in our neighborhoods. As we try to create jobs, come up with quality schools, health care, we need to emphasize safety and protection. The citizens deserve equal protection under the law."

There were 46 people shot over the weekend and eight more shot on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Rep. Dunkin ( @RepKenDunkin ) described the increased amount of activity as astonishing. He thinks the National Guard needs to get involved.

"We have to come together and identify those individuals who are being the urban terrorists that we so detest. The police have to play a page role. If the police can't do it, we need to consider calling in the National Guard or the state police, where citizens can be protected," Dunkin said. "A large proportion of those individuals who are shot are innocent bystanders. This wouldn't happen in any other community in the city, as often as it is on the South and West Sides."

There is also concern throughout the city that the violence will, or has already had a negative impact on tourism. Rep. Dunkin is the chairman of Illinois' tourism committee. He spoke to encouraging tourist to visit Chicago despite the violence in some areas.

"We have an incredible city in spite of this rare uptick of gun violence. It's important to make sure tourism is live and well, because a lot of the people in these neighborhoods depend on that economy. It's a matter of us getting a handle on it right now," Dunkin said. "My emphasis is on the superintendent, the mayor, us and the community to wrap our arms around this and we have to be protected. It's not a good conscience for politicians not to have an opportunity to protect the people. If the superintendent of police cannot do it effectively, we need reinforcement at the state and possibly national level to sees this culture in our community."

Rep. Dunkin said that unfortunately, the socioeconomic status of the next victims will have a large impact on the type of help Chicago will receive and how fast it will come to the city.

"We have come up with strategies that add value to the lives of all the people," Dunkin said. "We're disgusted with this violence."

Community activist and religious leader Father Michael Pfleger said he didn't initially believe the report when he heard about crime being "down" in the City of Chicago. Regardless of the headlines, he said the community wants to hear about solutions.

"I don't know that I'm believing it, but I know it's something we need to hear. We don't need to hear when there's 46 people shot, seven killed on the weekend, or that things are better," Pfleger said. "We need to hear how we're going to deal with this. People are afraid. A 10-year-old kid in my church didn't want to come home from vacation. Kids shouldn't have to live like that and think like. That college kids are not coming home from college."

Father Pfleger announced on Facebook and shared via Twitter ( @MichaelPfleger ) that he wants people to get involved this Friday, the last day of the public school year:

Father Michael Pfleger on Facebook:

"I'm asking my FB Family to join me at St. Sabina this Friday June 21st at 7pm on the Church steps for a Rally and March to call the Community to OCCUPY THE STREETS this Summer! Friday marks the end of the School Year and the 1st Day of Summer. AFTER LAST WEEKENDS BLOOD BATH, WE MUST MAKE A DECISION TO BE THE SOLDIERS ON OUR STREETS THE BOOTS ON THE GROUND, WHO ARE VISIBLE AND TAKE AUTHORITY! PLEASE JOIN ME AND SPREAD THE WORD THRU ALL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA..... LET'S SEND A STRONG MESSAGE AND TAKE A STAND! OCCUPY THE STREETS!!!!!"

"We need the communities to get out in the streets and take advantage of the Occupy Movement," Pfleger said. "Go out in our neighborhood. Go out in your streets. Let's take authority and take presence in the streets and let's make sure we control our streets. Stop waiting for the police to do it. Let's do it ourselves."

Father Pfleger doesn't think the National Guard is the only thing Chicago needs to curb the violence. He thinks the community needs much more.

"These are abused, neglected communities. Let's get jobs, good education systems, alternatives. Let's give some infrastructure," Pfleger said. "We have abandoned these communities and they are perfect storms for violence."

But the question is, how can the community convince kids not to resort to activities that lead to violence when some can make $1,500 per transaction. The activity pays pretty well short term, compared to the hard work over time it would take to walk away and lead a more productive life.

"We have done it," Pfleger said. "For seven months we have watched young people out here. 95% of the brothers in the street do not want to shoot, kill or sell drugs. We have given them jobs and GED classes - and they do well."

ORLANDO -- A woman is accused of using a stun gun to discipline a 10-year-old child for not making oatmeal properly.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office report released Thursday, Melissa Neale is according of brutally disciplining a child on several occasions.

Neale bonded out of jail Friday.

A witness, who said Neale and the child had been living in her home for three weeks, said she saw Neale slap the child in the face, punch her in the head, and grab her by the hair and pull her around the room.

Then, deputies said on Sunday, June 15, the witness saw Neale get angry at the girl for not making oatmeal properly, get her stun gun, hold the child down and touch it to the child's leg. She said she saw the girl fall to the floor and scream.

The witness said she decided to get help when the girl wrote a note saying she didn't want to live anymore.

Deputies said Neale told them she never abused the child, and during the stun gun incident, the gun was never activated and everyone was just playing around. But deputies and the Department of Children and Families said the child's bruises and marks show otherwise.

Neale was charged with aggravated child abuse with a weapon.

Relatives are caring for the child. Deputies will not say how Neale and the girl are related.

Six months after the Newtown mass shooting, Democrats are starting to quietly restart the gun-control engines
ix months have passed since a lone gunman walked in to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and shot 20 small children and six adults. The big push for legislation to curb gun violence that followed Newtown peaked in April, in a Senate showdown where supporters of the bill were unable to get 60 votes to break a Republican-led filibuster.

The Week's Jon Terbush noted earlier this week that this defeat took the wind out of the sails of the gun-control movement - and now, he says, "the prospect of gun control legislation getting a second wind seems unlikely."

Senate Democrats, apparently, disagree. "The fight is not over, it has just begun," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday, flanked by families of the Newtown victims. "We may have lost the first vote, but we're going to win the last one," added Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.).

They aren't just blowing hot air, says Jonathan Weisman in The New York Times . Congressional Democrats and the White House are quietly renewing their effort to pass gun safety legislation "amid delicate talks on a new background-check measure that advocates hope could change enough votes from no to yes." The number of votes needed is daunting, and Reid warned that any new measure can't be weaker than the one stymied in April, but this does provide supporters a concrete glimmer of hope.

The quiet talks between two senators who voted against the bill, Mark Begich (D-Alaska) and Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) "officially do not exist," Weisman adds . Both lawmakers "deny the existence of negotiations or legislation." At the same time, "other senators are openly acknowledging and encouraging the effort and say the talks are building momentum." And if Begich and Ayotte switch their votes, supporters need at least three more nay-to-aye conversions. (Stand-in Sen. Jeffrey Chiesa is a wild card.)

Supporters of the gun measures say that if Begich and Ayotte can reach a deal on background checks that's robust enough for Democrats and different enough to make vote-switching look credible, four other senators may join them. That would be enough to pass at least that part of the gun safety package.

But none of the potential switchers are encouraging talk of a renewed push, and Democratic leaders are increasingly urging New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) to put down one of his financial weapons, his threat to spend heavily to defeat Democrats who voted against the bill. A Republican-led Senate would spell the death of gun control, Reid says he told Bloomberg , to unknown effect: "He's kind of a free spirit, and a very rich one."

Just because the "recalcitrant Senate succumbed to pressure from gun manufacturers and the NRA's leadership and failed to pass even the most modest measure" doesn't mean the post-Newtown gun control push has failed, say Robyn Thomas and Juliet Leftwich in the Los Angeles Times .

Since the Newtown tragedy, gun regulation has made enormous gains in states across the country, with more on the horizon. In fact, an unprecedented number of gun control laws have been introduced, debated, voted on and enacted this year. What a difference Sandy Hook and six months have made.... In all, we've seen a year-to-year increase of 231 percent in the introduction of common sense gun-safety legislation nationwide. Los Angeles Times ]

Even the Senate bill's defeat "was, in its way, a victory," say Thomas and Leftwich , who work for the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

The fact that it was introduced, that hearings were held, and that it got 55 votes represents progress. After the vote, several senators felt real repercussions from their decision to vote against the bill, including Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.), whose approval rating dropped by more than 15 percent immediately after the background check vote. There are now real consequences for legislators who choose not to represent the will of their constituents on this issue. Los Angeles Times ]

Democrats show their true douche bag tactics and Cancel <span class="highlight">Gun</span> Control Vote After Realizing They Don't Have Enough Votes

A New Jersey bill that could serve as a nationwide model for gun control is hitting a legislative wall - and not because of a traditional partisan battle, but because of infighting between, believe it or not, two Democrats. And that conflict played out when the measure went to a recent committee vote.

The bill (S2723) would overhaul the state's current system by encoding firearms' IDs on driver's licenses, creating a system for instant background checks, and requiring gun buyers to show proof they've gone through firearms training.

And there's a twist: Objections have been raised about how the vote on the measure was handled in committee, specifically that actions to suspend the vote rather than complete it (which would have seen the measure fail) violated Assembly rules.

The author of the bill, state Senate President Stephen Sweeney, a Democrat, calls the legislation a "national model," says NJ.com. And while it passed the state Senate, a political adversary of Sweeney's stood in its way - Assemblyman Joseph Cryan (D-Union), who abstained from voting on the measure in the Assembly's Law and Public Safety committee.

  (Credit: YouTube)

Cryan's lack of support was critical, leaving the bill without enough votes to advance.

Apparently seeing the fallout ahead, the committee's chairman - Charles Mainor (D-Hudson) - stopped the vote and called a recess, briefly conferring with abstainer Cryan. When the committee resumed, the intention was to move to another bill.

But another member of the committee objected, saying rules prohibited stopping the vote.

Here's the language from Assembly rules:

(Credit: Screen grab from Assembly Rules document)

"It didn't have the votes," Cryan said after the meeting. "I abstained based on cost concerns...I along with many other thousands of New Jerseyans have lost a motor vehicle office in our district. We had some real cost concerns about the bill."

As it turns out, Cryan and Sweeney also are tangling over who should be the next state Democratic chairman. In addition, Cryan is a proponent of reducing the allowed capacity of ammunition magazines from 15 to 10. Although a bill to make that happen was passed by the Assembly, Sweeney has refused to advance it in the upper house.

Here's a clip before and after the vote was taken, starting about the 1-minute mark, via YouTube; it's preceded by text outlining what's at stake:

RICK PERRY TO MEET, RECRUIT CT AND NY <span class="highlight">GUN</span> MANUFACTURERS TO TEXAS

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) will be in Connecticut June 17 to meet with firearm manufacturers who find their businesses penalized and hampered by the new gun control laws enacted by Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy (D) on April 4 .Perry will also meet with some firearm manufactures in New York whose businesses face new regulations under the gun control laws Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed in January.

Connecticut-based firearm companies include Colt, Ruger, Mossberg, and Stag Arms. Of these, Mossberg already sent a letter to Connecticut Gov. Malloy, voicing their disapproval of the anti-gun climate in the state.

In the letter , Mossberg VP Joseph H. Bartozzi indicated the company does not appreciate the way Malloy bad mouths the gun industry, and he made it clear that the new gun control legislation makes Connecticut a tougher state to do business in:

At a time when we are facing product boycotts simply because we have a manufacturing presence in Connecticut, I would respectfully ask that you carefully consider the affect that your words have both within and outside this state. At a time when we are being encouraged to move our manufacturing facility to one of several states, your words make us feel most unwelcomed. In a state where our company has been providing good, well-paying jobs for over nine decades, your words make us feel decidedly unappreciated.

Gov. Perry will be in Connecticut next Monday to let Mossberg know Texas appreciates them--and that Texas has lower taxes, less regulation, and a thriving economy to grow their business in.

His trip will be complimented by a $1 million television ad campaign in which Perry says , "Texas is calling. Your opportunity awaits."

THREE STEPS TO NULLIFY FEDERAL <span class="highlight">GUN</span> CONTROL

NOTE: The following article is based off a speech given on June 8, 2013 at the Celebration of Liberty event in Topeka, KS. While some of the nullification strategies are specific for Kansas, the general principles can and should be applied in every state of the country.

So NSA boss James Clapper is pretty irritated that he and his buddies got busted this week. Here's what he had to say, "The unauthorized disclosure of information about this important and entirely legal program is reprehensible and risks important protections for the security of Americans."

To these criminals, you being aware of what they're doing is a bad thing. And speaking of "reprehensible," let's talk a little bit about a Mr. Eric Holder. Not only is his office tasked with defending the NSA in front of the secret courts that authorized this mass spying (wow, "secret court" sounds a little like something Stalin would've used, doesn't it?), he also doesn't like the idea of YOU having the right to keep and bear arms unless HE says it's ok.

As many of you already know, our Supreme Leader Lord Holder threatened you in a letter to Governor Brownback. Here's a little of what Eric had to say:

"In purporting to override federal law and to criminalize the official acts of federal officers, SB102 directly conflicts with federal law and is therefore unconstitutional."

This Holder guy has the arrogance to tell you - the People of Kansas - what your constitution means. This hubris isn't limited to Eric - it's pervasive in the entire government. On the NSA spying program, Barack Obama told us all not to worry. It's "legal" because Congress has reauthorized the program over and over.

The view of tyrants has been the same throughout history - if they do it, it's ok.

But our buddy Eric Holder didn't stop at just claiming kingly powers for himself. He also decided to threaten you.

"I am writing to inform you that federal law enforcement agencies...will continue to execute their duties to enforce ALL federal firearms laws and regulations. Moreover, the United States will take all appropriate action, including litigation if necessary, to prevent the State of Kansas from interfering with the activities of federal officials enforcing federal law."

This is what power-mad criminals always do. Holder and his criminal friends have been doing this for quite some time. Back in 2009, his office sent a letter to the Oklahoma Attorney General's office. He used aggressive language, threatening to withhold Federal funds appropriated for Oklahoma. The reason? A proposed amendment to the State Constitution, which would have made English the official language of the State.

Regarding that letter to Oklahoma, Rob Natelson - one of the nation's leading constitutional scholars - said this:

"During the 2nd century AD, Roman Emperors began to increasingly interfere with local government and they did this with...letters...letters that look something like this. They started out as almost advisory and they got increasingly peremptory. By the end of the 2nd century, there was very little local government left.

I look at this and I see this letter which gets close to looking like an order from the central government down to a sovereign state legislature, and I say...WOW! This looks like something that Septimius Severus would have sent to the local officials."

This is the arrogance of an emperor.

QUESTION

The question is this - What are you going to do about it? Well, here's a few options that are guaranteed to fail. I've got a 100% guarantee on this.

Vote the Bums out in Congress. Well, people have been voting bums out for at least a century or more and we just keep getting more bums. Make the case in court. Yeah, good luck with that. You know, those people who ruled that inactivity was "taxable"? - Well I wouldn't trust them with my garbage. March on DC! - Sorry. Only dogs begs for scraps. I recommend a different direction and you're already on that path. No more waiting. The time to nullify is now .

IN PRACTICE

So let's put that into practice. And in order to do that, I want to review just a little about what you have as law here in the State of Kansas - it's actually far broader and stronger than what most people think it is.

The 2nd Amendment Protection Act that Sam Brownback signed into law last month has two major parts:

a) A "firearms freedom act" component. This is what most of the experts talk about as the entirety of the bill. This part of the law exempts firearms manufactured within the state and sold within the state from federal laws and regulations under the Interstate commerce clause. It also provides for criminal penalties for federal agents who attempt to violate this portion of the law.

The constitutional philosophy behind this is that these goods have not traveled in "interstate commerce" and are outside of federal purview. Constitutionally-speaking, this is absolutely correct when considering the view of the founders instead of the living-breathing constitution that the federal courts have given us.

If this was the entirety of the law, it would be a great first step for you in Kansas.

But this is just one part of the 2nd Amendment Protection Act. This other part - is just awesome - and with some work, could really have an impact in favor of your right to keep and bear arms.

It states, in part:

Any act, law, treaty, order, rule or regulation of the government of the United States which violates the second amendment to the constitution of the United States is null, void and unenforceable in the state of Kansas

In conjunction with Section 6a, the bill defines what is meant by "the second amendment to the constitution of the United States," and it isn't based off a decision of the supreme court.

The second amendment to the constitution of the United States reserves to the people, individually, the right to keep and bear arms as that right was understood at the time that Kansas was admitted to statehood in 1861.

Based off this text, the state of Kansas is not allowed to enforce - since the law calls the acts "unenforceable" - any federal gun control measures that violate the 2nd Amendment as understood at the time that Kansas joined the Union in 1861. And since there's no evidence that the People of Kansas agreed to a Constitution that allowed the federal government to restrict the right to keep and bear arms in any way - that means all federal gun control laws, rules, regulations, treaties and orders are "unenforceable" in Kansas.

Don't get me wrong, the feds are still going to WANT to enforce these so-called federal laws, but they rely so heavily on assistance and support from state and local government that a law banning everyone in the state from enforcing these federal acts will render the feds almost toothless. Judge Andrew Napolitano has confirmed this recently, telling us that such widespread noncompliance in a state would make federal gun laws "nearly impossible to enforce."

This is exactly what James Madison said we should be doing regarding constitutional violations. In Federalist #46 he advised us to a few things, most prominently:

- refuse to cooperate with officers of the Union
- use "legislative devices" to create "very serious impediments"

Madison told us that if several adjoining States would do the same it "would present obstructions which the federal government would hardly be willing to encounter."

In other words - the feds cannot enforce gun control in Kansas without the help of Kansas.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Well, the state isn't going to magically stop enforcing federal law. Unless you get active and take steps to enforce this "unenforceable" section of the Kansas 2nd Amendment Protection Act, nothing will change. Nothing - guaranteed.

But if you start to take action, and take action now, you can turn this mess around. There are three things you need to accomplish to make your state the 2nd Amendment freedom state.

Get your local community - city or town AND your county to pass a 2nd Amendment Preservation Ordinance . Once the state is blanketed with local communities passing these ordinances, get the state to follow up and expand the current law just a bit further. Taking James Madison's advice - work with and support your neighboring states. As far as the first two, Here at the TAC, we've already drafted legislation to do just that. The Kansas Local 2nd Amendment Preservation Ordinance . ( other states here ) Here's the 2 most important excerpts:

Whereas, the (CITY, COUNTY, TOWN) of (NAME) affirms its support for the 2nd Amendment Protection Act by confirming that the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, as understood at the time that Kansas entered the union in 1861, did not authorize the federal government to enact any laws, orders, rules or regulations, whatsoever, regarding the right to keep and bear arms; and

andNo agency of the (CITY, COUNTY, TOWN) of (NAME), or person in the employ of the (CITY, COUNTY, TOWN) of (NAME) shall enforce, provide material support for, or participate in any way in the enforcement of any act, law, treaty, order, rule or regulation of the government of the United States regarding personal firearms, firearm accessories, or ammunition within the boundaries of this (CITY, COUNTY, TOWN).

Things are already moving forward thanks to the tireless work of great patriots like Patricia Stoneking. Plus good folks like Blake Branson, Rob Wood - and many others I should be mentioning. The Sedgewick county commissioners already passed this as law. And under the leadership of Mayor Kenny Chartier, the small town of Herndon passed Ordinance #510 last month - to fully ban local enforcement of federal gun laws.

Two down. 100 more to go?

Then you'll take on the 2nd task and work to get the state legislature to do the same. They should pass what should be an easy bill- one to expressly prohibit all state agents, agencies, employees and assets from ever participating in any way in the enforcement of any federal gun control measures. All of them. A total stand-down.

Finally, the third step, support your neighbors. Instead of donating money to some 2016 presidential candidate? Send $50 over to Missouri First - they followed your lead here in Kansas and got their state to pass a 2nd Amendment Preservation Act to nullify all federal gun control measures as well. Support the group, Oklahoma Liberty .

Become a member and support the TAC!

CLOSING

Three things. That's what you need to do. Blanket the state and the entire region with laws like this - and federal gun control is as good as dead no matter what they try to pass in Washington DC.

I can assure you that facing down the evil empire is not going to be easy. But easy is for losers. I hope you'll take this advice from Samuel Adams, the great agitator for liberty:

Instead of sitting down satisfied with the efforts we have already made, which is the wish of our enemies, the necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance.

The time for waiting......is over. The time to act.....is now.

Together, we can send a message to Eric Holder and all his successors - something that will shake their foundation and resonate through history. We don't need your stinkin' permission to exercise our rights - we're going to exercise them whether you want us to or not.

READ MORE from Tenth Amendment Center for your rights and how to be involved.

There's that lie again - "...90% of Americans who support background checks...". Keeps coming back like a bad penny. How were the children "slaughtered" and the adults only "killed"? Were they murdered in a different way? How are their deaths less offensive CNN? Why are their lives worth less? all they ever to is show victims and then talk about gun control that is the only answer to the problem- gun control and guns in the hands of law abiding people is the only unspoken yet firmly targeted CAUSE of gun violence. Pure propaganda on CNN's part.

=======================================================================

Has the moment passed? Why gun control push fizzled

Washington (CNN) -- Six months after a gunman burst into a Newtown,
Connecticut, elementary school and slaughtered 20 children and killed
six others, promises of stricter national gun control laws remain
largely unfulfilled.

And though the families of those lost made yet another pilgrimage to
Washington this week to plead for action in meetings with the two top
House Republicans, it is highly unlikely that lawmakers will act.

After the meeting Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner said the discussions were "very good."

Boehner declined to say much more about the discussion with the group,
but Majority Leader Eric Cantor, who was also at the meeting, told
reporters, "I was struck again by the incredible pain that they are
going through. I just can't imagine as a parent that kind of pain. My
heart goes out to them."

Backers of gun control proposals were unable to advance legislation in
the Senate centered on expanded background checks earlier this year,
even after a high-profile push. The House never took up the measures.

Newtown parents fight release of photos Costas: There will be another
Newtown Are there too many gun laws already? Obama angry about gun bill
failure

President Barack Obama lashed out when the Senate effort faltered, calling the defeat a "pretty shameful day for Washington."

The political climate isn't right.

Politically vulnerable moderate Democrats eyeing the 2014 midterm
elections don't want to risk political capital by voting to pass both an
immigration overhaul and comprehensive gun control legislation, said
CNN senior political analyst David Gergen.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's recent move to discourage funding the
four Democratic senators who voted against shoring up background checks
on gun sales will largely amount to a "symbolic" gesture, Gergen said.

Two of the four -- Sen. Mark Pryor, D-Arkansas, and Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, -- are facing re-election in 2014.

Leading Democrats are also dubious about the overall impact of such a move.

"The only way to pass a background check bill is to maintain a
Democratic majority in the Senate, and any efforts that make that less
likely are counterproductive," said Adam Jentleson, a spokesman for
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

"Ninety percent of Democrats agree with the 90% of Americans who support
background checks, and a Republican majority would guarantee that no
background check bill passes in the foreseeable future," he said.

There's also no incentive for the Republican-controlled House to take up
gun control as an issue. That chamber's leaders have said they won't
bring the matter up until the Senate acts.

In either case, it seems as if the nation has moved on.

Though national polls taken after the Newtown shooting showed that
roughly 90% of Americans supported some form of universal background
checks, less than half of those polled were upset by the Senate's
failure to pass that type of measure, according to a Washington Post/Pew
Research Center poll.

"I'm afraid the moment has probably passed," Gergen said.

After the Newtown shooting, gun control advocates redoubled their
efforts with a nation mourning the loss of school children. The issue
also galvanized the Obama administration.

However, they have thus-far been outmatched by efforts of a powerful gun
lobby and a motivated and vocal interest group, the National Rifle
Association, said Jon Vernick, co-director of the Johns Hopkins Center
for Gun Policy and Research.

However, this year's defeat may could still result in eventual legislative change, Vernick said.

In the absence of congressional action on a slate of gun control
measures ranging from an assault weapons ban to expanded background
checks, many states have taken matters into their own hands.

While some states like Connecticut and New York have strengthened laws, others have done the opposite.

Undaunted by congressional inaction, the White House is still pushing for tighter laws.

Vice President Joe Biden recently shared his confidence that Congress
will act with fellow Democrats in an e-mail and chastised Republicans
during a recent fundraiser for not supporting expanded background checks
for gun sales.

Biden is also holding a gun control event at the White House next week.

Biden, a former senator, and Reid are also reportedly in talks on how best to resurrect related legislation.

"I am not going to bring up a vote just to have a vote," Reid said last
week. "I want to bring up this vote again if we can accomplish something
that seems pretty common sense to me. If you have severe mental
problems or you are a criminal you shouldn't be able to buy a gun.
That's what, I agree with 90% of the American people, we should get this
done."

A new company in Texas is selling a precision rifle with a unique technology that allows even an inexperienced shooter to hit a target 10 football fields away. The price tag is a staggering $27,500.

Tracking Point describes the weapon as a smartgun, with a trigger wired to the scope so that the gun won't fire until it's locked on the target that's been tagged.

&quot;There are a number of people who say the gun shoots itself,&quot; said Chief Executive Officer Jason Schauble, a former Marine captain who was wounded in Iraq. &quot;It doesn't. The shooter is always in the loop.&quot;

The TrackingPoint rifles, which are Wi-Fi enabled and have a color display so users can post videos of their shots on Facebook or YouTube, started shipping in May. Schauble said his company is on track to sell as many as 500 of them this year, to clients that he describes as &quot;high net worth hunters&quot; who want to kill big game at long range.

TrackingPoint claims that the gun took down a South African wildebeest at 1,103 yards, a company record.

The company also has a deal to sell about 1,000 of the guns to Remington, which is Schauble's former employer. But the Remington model will be less expensive, running about $5,000 each. TrackingPoint's total sales for the year are expected to be about $10 million.

Lifelong hunter and construction executive Bob Ellis is one client who raves about the rifle. &quot;I have not shot anything like it ever,&quot; he said in an email to CNNMoney. &quot;The distance and accuracy of the rifle is a big WOW!&quot;

Founder and chairman John McHale is a serial entrepreneur who's started several companies that were ultimately sold to Cisco ( CSCO ), 3Com and Compaq, which was later bought by HP ( HPQ ). Early in his career he worked on weapons accuracy systems for tanks. The idea for TrackingPoint came to McHale while he was on African safari and frustrated by his inability to shoot a gazelle at 300 yards.

Schauble is well aware of the damage that guns can do. His right hand is partially paralyzed after he was shot with an AK-47 during combat in Iraq. He wears black &quot;kill bracelets&quot; commemorating dead friends. He admitted that TrackingPoint's technology is &quot;controversial.&quot;

Government agencies contacted the company last year for a demonstration of the weapon at a shooting range at the Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia. But Schauble says that the Department of Homeland Security didn't express any concerns that TrackingPoint's weapon is more of a threat than existing firearm systems.

The FBI, Homeland Security and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives all declined to comment to CNNMoney.

But the weapon has some &quot;scary implications from a security perspective,&quot; said Rommel Dionisio, a gun industry analyst for Wedbush Securities.

&quot;There are a handful of snipers who can hit a target at 1,000 yards. But now, anybody can do it,&quot; he said. &quot;You can put some tremendous capability in the hands of just about anybody, even an untrained shooter.&quot;

Indeed, novice shooters from CNNMoney tried the gun and did hit targets 1,000 yards away.

What sets the TrackingPoint rifle apart is its high-tech electronic scope that automatically accounts for distance, gravity, wind speed, humidity, the rotation of the Earth and other variables that can influence whether a bullet hits its target.

The TrackingPoint scope allows the shooter to &quot;tag&quot; a target by placing a red dot on it within the crosshairs. Even when the safety is off and the shooter's finger pulls the trigger, the rifle will only fire when the crosshairs are locked on the red dot, making it relatively easy for even an inexperienced shooter to hit a target at long range.

Tracking Point charges from $22,500 to $27,500 for the different versions of its bolt-action rifle, which has a five-round magazine using .300 or .338 caliber ammunition.

Schauble hopes to land a contract with the U.S. military. He said that American soldiers could benefit not only from the long-range accuracy, but also the rifle's Wi-fi communications features.

&quot; From a patriotic standpoint and as a veteran, I would love every soldier to be better armed today, and this technology could get them there,&quot; he said.
