Sylvia Armen doesn't remember much about Saturday's deadly encounter with Andrew Moore, a customer-turned-assailant at Armen's House of Music in Bethel Park. But what she does recall is frightening.

"He wanted to look at guitars. He didn't ask for any money," the 72-year-old said Saturday evening, after being treated for injuries and released from UPMC Mercy hospital.

And then, seemingly unprovoked, Mr. Moore pounced, clubbing her on the head. Just as suddenly, police said, Mr. Moore was dead, shot and killed by Mrs. Armen's husband, Alfred, 73, after a brief but violent struggle inside their store late Saturday morning.

Mrs. Armen and police both said Saturday that the motive for the intrusion and attack didn't appear to be robbery. And Mrs. Armen said neither she nor her husband recognized the 31-year-old Venetia man -- not an acquaintance and not a former customer, she said.

Her account mirrored the one given by Bethel Park police Chief John Mackey: The man stayed in the store -- a fixture at 5920 Library Road for nearly two decades -- for just a few minutes, appearing to browse. He then went outside to his vehicle, and came back in with some type of wooden club, Chief Mackey said. He described the weapon as "an old-fashioned nightstick."

The intruder attacked Mrs. Armen, causing head injuries. After that, feeling light-headed, "I went and sat down" in the office, she said, while her husband jumped to her defense. A tight-quarters scuffle ensued between the intruder and Mr. Armen, when the shopowner pulled a revolver and shot his attacker dead, the chief said.

"There were some words shared," Chief Mackey said, in explaining how the incident began.

Mrs. Armen said she couldn't recall what those words were, and didn't witness any of the scuffle, because she had retreated to the office. All she knows for sure, she said, is that the attacker acted "crazy."

As for a motive, Chief Mackey said, "at this time, we don't know." Allegheny County homicide detectives were assisting Bethel Park police with the investigation.

Mr. Armen was also treated at UPMC Mercy for his injuries in the attack. Mrs. Armen said her husband would be released today.

The couple lives in Bethel Park.

The county medical examiner's office removed Mr. Moore's body from the store about 4 p.m.

The store sells and repairs instruments and offers music lessons through outside teachers. It was open at the time of the shooting, occupied at the time by only the Armens and their cat -- and store mascot -- Garfield.

Like the devil dogs who have come before him, Pfc. Chesty XIV
received a pin bearing the Marine Corps Eagle, Globe and Anchor in a
special ceremony after boot camp. Unlike most, he also received a cuddle
and a kiss on the face from the commandant and his wife.A
three-and-a-half month old English Bulldog pup, Pfc. Chesty will be
taking over the duties of Marine Corps mascot throughout the coming
summer parade season under the hoary supervision of his predecessor,
Sgt. Chesty XIII.The Marine Corps has employed a mascot since the
1920s, said Marine Barracks Washington spokesman Capt. Jack Norton.
Since 1957, this position has been filled by a bulldog named Chesty, in
honor of Gen. Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, the Corps' most famous Marine.Prior
to Pfc. Chesty's Monday morning pinning ceremony, the sleepy-eyed pup
went through an abbreviated version of boot camp, including
indoctrination with tours of the commandant's mansion and parade field
and basic obedience to commands. He earned a meritorious promotion to
Pfc. in the process. The pup will spend more time at a traditional
obedience school this summer, Norton said.Pfc. Chesty also
sported the Marine uniform for the first time on Monday, a special
version of the dress whites made by the same Washington tailor, at 8th
Street Southeast, who dresses the other Marines stationed at the
barracks."(Pfc. Chesty) just finished The Crucible this morning,
humped his way in," Commandant Gen. Jim Amos joked as he pinned the
Eagle, Globe and Anchor on the puppy's uniform. "Today he joins the
long, rich lineage of Chestys that have gone on before him."When
the mascot is not making appearances alongside Sgt. Chesty at parades
and special events throughout the summer, he will be in the care of his
host family. Staff Sgt. Jason Mosser, a member of the Commandant's Own
Drum and Bugle Corps, and his wife, Christine, were selected from a pool
of applicants to care for the puppy. They adopted him Feb. 13 after he
was hand-selected by the Marines from a local breeder."You expect
the Marine Corps. You forget that he's absolutely adorable," Christine
Mosser said. "Walking him takes about an hour."Though Pfc. Chesty
will receive a lot of high-profile attention in his career - his
predecessor shook hands with Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and
President Obama - Mosser said at home he's just a member of the family."He gets chased by the cat," she said. "He's our baby."

Cpl.
Gaige Roberts, Pfc. Chesty's official handler, said the dog had come a
long way since he started training just a few weeks ago, but he still
had a few things to learn."When he gets sleepy, he doesn't want to listen," Roberts said.

During
the puppy's pinning ceremony, though, he was a star, greeting the press
after receiving his insignia and accepting a challenge coin from Amos
with fitting dignity. When he is ready later this summer, he will
take over primary mascot duties from Sgt. Chesty, who will then retire
honorably and go to live full-time with his host family after a
five-year career. That's 35 years of service in dog years.

Marketing stunt for the relaunch of the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum. Home of the enormous painting.

The Night Watch or The Shooting Company of Frans Banning Cocq (Dutch: De Nachtwacht) is the common name of one of the most famous works by Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn.

The painting may be more properly titled The Company of captain Frans Banning Cocq and lieutenant Willem van Ruytenburch preparing to march out. It is prominently displayed in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, as the best known painting in its collection. The Night Watch is one of the most famous paintings in the world. The painting is renowned for three characteristics: its colossal size (363 cm x 437 cm (11.91 ft x 14.34 ft)), the effective use of light and shadow ( chiaroscuro ), and the perception of motion in what would have traditionally been a static military portrait.

The painting was completed in 1642, at the peak of the Dutch Golden Age . It depicts the eponymous company moving out, led by Captain Frans Banning Cocq (dressed in black, with a red sash ) and his lieutenant, Willem van Ruytenburch (dressed in yellow, with a white sash). With effective use of sunlight and shade, Rembrandt leads the eye to the three most important characters among the crowd, the two gentlemen in the centre (from whom the painting gets its original title), and the small girl in the centre left background. Behind them, the company's colours are carried by the ensign, Jan Visscher Cornelissen.

Rembrandt has displayed the traditional emblem of the Arquebusiers in the painting in a natural way: the girl in yellow dress in the background is carrying the main symbols. She is a kind-of mascot herself: the claws of a dead chicken on her belt represent the clauweniers ( arquebusiers ); the pistol behind the chicken stands for 'clover'; and, she is holding the militia's goblet. The man in front of her is wearing a helmet with an oak leaf, a traditional motif of the Arquebusiers. The dead chicken is also meant to represent a defeated adversary. The colour yellow is often associated with victory.

 Bill Maher
ended his show tonight with a New Rule that took on conservative groups
for their disproportionate influence on the American political
landscape considering just how small they are. Maher deemed this
"shitkicker inflation" and called out every group from One Million Moms
to the NRA for claiming to speak for the majority but really vocalizing
the opinions of a small minority.
Maher opened by mocking conservative outrage over a Geico ad with the
little pig mascot and a Skittles ad with a woman and a walrus. In both
cases, groups like One Million Moms was outraged over tones of
bestiality, to which Maher rebutted, "Aren't you thinking a little too
much about bestiality?"

Maher said that all things conservative are being portrayed as way
bigger than they really are, like the fact that One Million Moms does
not have one million moms, or how the Catholic League (a group Maher
said makes even Pat Robertson roll his eyes) is not
really a league. He argued both are a "relatively small group of very
shrill people" who speak loudly enough that enough politicians think
their constituents are more conservative than they actually are.
Maher claimed, "Americans don't hate socialism, they just can't
define it." He also targeted the NRA for having a stranglehold on gun
policy in the U.S. despite low gun ownership figures and their small
membership.
Maher ended by turning to CPAC, the message of which he said was
"whatever you do, don't change." He shot down the idea being touted by
speakers at the conservative conference that they speak for the majority
of Americans, saying that they don't, but "they're just so loud they
haven't noticed America has moved on without them."

Why Sports and Wild Life do not mix. - 03-10-2013

An unruly marten invaded the pitch during a Swiss Super League match between Thun and Zurich, expertly evading capture by any means necessary. After running across the pitch once, the animal returned seconds after the referee whistle play to continue. A small net was used to try and imprison it, but it broke free and again ran across the pitch before getting tackled by Zurich's Loris Benito. Desperate to break free, the furry pest bit Benito on the finger, but he held on and carried it off.

After Benito received treatment for his bloody finger, the marten returned yet again, but this time the goalkeeper grabbed him and was impervious to the bites thanks to his gloves. Finally, the marten was removed from the building, the match was able to continue and someone had the genius idea to add the Benny Hill theme to this video.

"In hindsight, it was obviously foolish of me ," said Benito after the match. "Who knows what diseases the animal had. But I wanted to play the match and now I simply trust my immune system."

But since Zurich beat Thun 4-0, Benito isn't holding any hard feelings against the marten, suggesting that they make it their new mascot. "We have the lion. But the maten has brought us luck."
