‘They Kill Alex’

Carlos Arredondo, a native Costa Rican, stands in a parking lot of a Holiday Inn in Portland, Maine, next to his green Nissan pickup truck. The truck, its tailgate folded down, carries a flag-draped coffin and is adorned with pictures of his son, Lance Cpl. Alexander S. Arredondo, 20, a Marine killed in Iraq in 2004. The truck and a trailer he pulls with it have become a mobile shrine to his boy.

He drives around the country, with the aid of donations, evoking a mixture of sympathy and hostility. There are white crosses with the names of other boys killed in the war. Combat boots are nailed to the side of the display. There is a wheelchair, covered in colored ribbons, fixed to the roof of the cab.

There is Alex’s military uniform and boots, poster-size pictures of the young Marine shown on the streets of Najaf, in his formal Marine port

  • While I have the utmost sympathy for the Arredondo family, I must remind everyone that we have a volunteer army. No one is drafted. No one goes in against their own volition. If he was "lured" into the military as the article states, then perhaps his parents and family should have taught him about what it is that an army does before he got lured. This article is from a liberal website and if you click the link at the bottom you can read more leftest propaganda.

  • May this young Marine rest in peace, as a Veteran I salute his service and ultimate sacrifice to this country; may God bless his eternity.

With that said, had the father not illegally entered the country his son would not have had the opportunity to serve in the US military, go to war and tragically get killed. I think this SOB of a father should pack his bags and crawl back to where he came from.

He never would have protested the death of one single American had his son returned unscathe More..

    • Normal thinking folks wouldnt...They would accept the fact that this young man enlisted, into the Marine Corps no less. You dont know his reasoning for doing so, nor do I. In America we consider those who serve thier country in time of combat heros, regardless the politics. You see soldiers dont play politics, they are in the business of life and death. His contributions to the effort continues to mean something for the people of Iraq, I can say this from first hand experience, I heard " More..

  • While I applaud the way this man is trying to keep the memory of his son alive I find myself a little ashamed as well. Does he really think this is what his son meant when he said don't forget me. I think his son would be ashamed of the way his father is portraying him and the army. His son died for what he believed in. If he did not want to fight for his country or his family then he would not have joined up. Everyone who joins a Military service realizes that you can be killed. Anybody wh More..

  • Bullshit. It's a lefty site. READ it, not the 'comments' about it. Or are you making this supposition because it has 'truth' in its name?
That's like believing chicken McNuggets have more chicken in them than they do 'nug.'

  • His son gave Senor Arredondo the right and duty to express his views.

  • kick all these immigrants back to their countries...how dare he! he makes his way to the US, has a son killed in Iraq and later, in a selfless move, attempts to save another human being...I'm telling you, these immigrants come to our countries not only to take our jobs and collect welfare...they also dare to become heroes...
