Highlights from the first NC Marine Shipboard Firefighting certification school held this past February 2012 in Wilmington. Training evolutions and practical exams were held aboard the battleship USS North Carolina (no ghosts seen or heard) and at the training grounds of Cape Fear community college.
This week-long intensive hands-on course was conducted by instructors from the NC Office of the State Fire Marshal, Morehead City FD, and others with a combination of classroom lecture, live fire training, rescue evolutions, and field trips aboard the container ship Yang Ming Shanghai and the Wilmington FD's fire boat.
This was the first of its kind, and students gained experience and practical knowledge useful to their diverse NC seaside & port city fire departments, as well as IFSAC-accredited NC Marine Firefighter certification.
I found this video while looking for pictures... I was (the oldest) one of the students and it was awesome, terrifying, exhausting, and highly educational.
Battleship engine room rescue ops start @ 03:17, live fire ops starts @ 06:54.
Shout-outs to New Hanover County FD, Wilmington FD, Stony Point FD, Leland FD, Morehead City FD, Harker's Island FD, Pine Knoll Shores FD, Atlantic Beach FD, Surf City Fire Rescue, and Swansboro FD!
