ATLANTA CAPITOL TRUCK ROUTE

The address for the Georgia Capitol. The address is 431 Capitol Avenue, Atlanta, Georgia 30312. Then it told me to select 400-461 Capitol Avenue (a range of addresses) and I did. The entire area showed up and the first route below this is the tightest route that I can imagine. However, I don’t know if they will be able to do this route without getting in big trouble. You will see when you widen the area that there is not another good route without going way out of the zone.

Coming from the east of Atlanta exit I-20 West at Capitol Avenue and turn right.
Pass by the capitol building and turn left on Memorial Drive.
Go down a few blocks and turn left on Pryor Street. That is in front of the Fulton County government building.
Go down to Fulton Street and turn left.
Go down to Capitol Avenue again and turn left.

The second route that is farther away is:

From the east side of Atlanta get off I-20 West at Hill Street and turn right.
Turn Left on Memorial Drive
Turn left on Spring Street, which eventually changes names to Windsor Street
Turn left on Georgia Avenue
Turn left on Hill Street again

This second route will not have them in front of the Capitol building or the Fulton government building.
If they are coming from the north or South they will have to exit Memorial Drive from the north, or Edgewood from the South and find their way onto Memorial Drive.

The following is a word of concern and encouragement to our fellow patriots, AMERICAN TRUCKERS, who literally carry the load of the United States of America, day in and day out, rain and shine.

You have been shamelessly betrayed and stabbed in the back! President George W. Bush, who is no friend of labor, has decided, without a single American vote being cast, that tens of thousands of Mexican trucks and truckers should be allowed into our country in order to compete against you. In less than 3 weeks, they will cross into this country with our President's blessing. They will not be subject to the same safety standards and laws regulating our trucking industry, weight and load restrictions, maintenance of their trucks and equipment, nor insurance minimums! Many will come without driver's licenses and criminal background checks will not be required of them, many will have criminal records and DUI convictions, and most do not speak, read or write English!

Does this sound to you like fair and reasonable competition? Do you believe that, when the President of the United States tilts the playing field in your foreign competitor's favor, he is looking out for you? Do you think he cares whether you and your business thrives or perishes? You know the answer to these questions. It's a resounding "NO!"

In light of our President's affection for Mexico and Mexican truckers, the crucial question is "What can we do to advance the legitimate interests of American truckers?" There is a compelling response: Participate in the TRUCKER'S "TRUCK OUT" RALLY, on April 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Join in on one or all three days to rivet every citizen's attention on the injustice being done to you and to our country by the criminal, reckless, and unprecedented actions of our Government.

American truckers plan to circle the White House and state capitals in a "rolling blockade" to protest a federal government plan to allow Mexican long-haul rigs to operate throughout the U.S.

Drivers who participate in "Truck-Out" also are being asked to run their rigs at the minimum speed permitted by law.

The protest is scheduled for April 23-25 to coordinate with the "Hold Their Feet to the Fire" rally and radio talk show marathon in Washington planned by the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

"American truckers are going to have their jobs undercut or vanish into the hands of Mexican truck drivers as this Department of Transportation pilot project gains permanency," said Frosty Wooldridge, a writer and talk-show host who drove 18-wheelers for two decades.

Piety and Woolridge first called for the Truck-Out protest in a column Frosty wrote at the end of March, asking truckers in the border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California to participate.

The idea expanded to a national Rally when Wanda Piety, the California independent business owner who started the "Truck Out", asked Wooldridge to help in planning the "Truck-Out".

"Every American truck driver's job is at risk," Woolridge said. "American drivers are going to see their wages undermined or they will lose their jobs altogether to Mexican drivers and Mexican trucking companies."

As WND reported, despite congressional opposition, the Bush administration expects to begin within weeks a pilot test that will allow Mexican trucks to operate freely across the U.S.

A spokesman for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Ian Grossman, told WND the agency plans to grant the first authority as early as the end of this month.

WND previously reported an amendment introduced by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., into the Fiscal Year 2007 Supplemental Appropriations Bill is designed to block the pilot test until the Mexican government authorizes U.S. trucking companies to operate in Mexico.

'Jobs will vanish'

Wooldridge told WND he expects Mexican truck drivers to haul loads for considerably less than half the cost of U.S. truck drivers.

"Jobs will vanish for American truckers," he contended. "The independents are going to be run right out of the business."

Working together, Piety and Wooldridge have created a website, SaveAmericaFund.org as the home of the boycott.

"The reaction we are getting to the 'Truck-Out' has been overwhelmingly successful," Piety told WND. "We have thousands of truckers contacting us saying they will participate."

The plan calls for drivers to form a slow-moving line across major highways outlying Washington, D.C. and the state capitals of the lower 48 states.

"We want to circle the White House on the Beltway around the nation's capitol, and the every state capital in a slow-rolling Truck Out rally," Piety explained. "As long as we keep moving, and observe the security perimeters around each state capitol, the trucks won't be ticketed. The truckers plan to drive the slowest minimum speed allowed by the law, running bumper-to-bumper and side-by-side across the highways to let people know why we are protesting Bush's plans to let Mexican trucks, truckers and trucking companies into America."

Piety said the goal is to back up traffic behind the protest "as far as we can back it up."

"There's no law against anything we're doing," she said. "Even on the freeways, for trucks to go all the way across the freeway and back up traffic, there's no law that says that's illegal."

If police come and break up the protest, the truckers "will just go on down the road a ways and start up the protest once again."

"We just want to continually have a cohesive flow of truckers protesting, all across the nation, wherever we can get it to happen," Piety explained. "We want to let as many people know as possible."

Piety told WND she sees the Department of Transportation's Mexican truck pilot test as part of a broader Bush administration plan to open the border.

"There's a problem in this country, and it revolves around George Bush's plans with Mexico," she said. "The plan to allow Mexican trucking companies into the U.S. is part of [the North America Free Trade Agreement] and we are opposed to that plan, just like we are opposed to NAFTA and the NAU."

Todd Spencer, executive vice president of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, the OOIDA, told WND his group shares "in the outrage that is being felt by the folks who are organizing and participating in the 'Truck-Out.'"

While OOIDA is not sponsoring or endorsing the protest, Spencer said the group is "encouraging our members to fully exercise their rights and responsibilities as American citizens to work within the system and convey their indignation to their elected officials."

"It is simply outrageous that our government plans to allow Mexican trucks full reign of U.S. highways before all safety, economic and homeland security concerns are completely and appropriately addressed," he said.

A Teamsters Union spokesman told WND the union was aware of "Truck-Out" but not involved.

"The union is concentrating on using its political clout to block the pilot program through the legislative process," Galen Munroe told WND.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., whose NAFTA Trucking Safety Act is now working its way through House committees, commented to WND on the "Truck-Out" Rally.

"The growing opposition to the pilot program and the overall effort to grant cross-border truckers immediate and direct access into the United States should not be ignored," he said.

"People have a right to be concerned with the Mexican truck pilot program," said Hunter, "especially when it could potentially compromise their safety and our nation's security."

Hunter stressed the reasons he has introduced the NAFTA Trucking Safety Act, noting it's "important that the implementing authority listen to and thoroughly address these concerns before moving forward with the program."

Wooldridge was a math-science teacher in Denver in the 1970s when he decided to supplement his salary by driving trucks in the summer.

For 21 summers, he was a long-haul driver for United Van Lines. For the last three years of his trucking career, Wooldridge was the head trainer and safety officer for Johnston Storage & Moving in Denver, a United Van Lines agency.

Wooldridge drove 18-wheel long-haul rigs in all 48 states of the lower U.S. and in Canada. He ran 48' and 53' foot freight boxes, with extensive experience on the Interstate highways.

Today, Wooldridge is a professional writer who specializes in non-fiction adventure books. He writes two columns a week on the Internet and hosts a radio show on the Republic Broadcasting Network twice a week.

Piety is a private business owner in Los Angeles.

There are not nearly enough qualified U.S. DOT inspectors to do the job of inspecting the Mexican trucks and drivers,” As quoted by Norita Taylor of OOIDA, “Safety – U.S. inspectors are already stretched to the limit in performing safety checks on American carriers. No evidence has been provided showing that Mexican trucks will be inspected consistently and held to the same high standards that U.S. trucking firms are federally required to meet.” This will swing the door to our border wide open to more drugs, terrorist, weapons and human smuggling. Most of the Mexican truckers do not speak, read or write English and many have less than an 8th grade education. Many will drive their trucks with no liability or collision insurance in place, many truckers will be driving with no driver-licenses and some with criminal and DUI driving records.

Norita Taylor of OOIDA has pointed out some of the serious issues surrounding Mexican Truckers in America, “Commercial Driver’s License – Mexico’s licensing system is a sham. By having no extensive background checks on serious safety violations and criminal convictions, it’s hard to tell if someone with a Mexican CDL is a truck driver or terrorist.”

She goes on to say, “Hours of Service –There is no way of verifying if Mexican truckers have been on the road and awake for two hours or two weeks before they enter the United States. Alcohol & Drug Testing – It is not clear who will oversee the collection of random testing samples of Mexican drivers.” With no background or drug checks that can be enforced, as there are no facilities in place in Mexico to ensure the drivers are safe to drive on our roads, it puts all American motorists at serious risk. Many Mexican trucks have bald-tires and poorly maintained rigs, as Mexico does not regulate their trucks to adhere to the strict safety regulations our truckers are required to adhere to.

Law enforcement records have shown that large numbers of Mexican truckers have participated in bringing black market loads of people, drugs and products, across our border already illegally, and will work to create new smuggling routes across America if the doors are opened for them to truck here via NAFTA. How will the 3,000 DHS-ICE officers and our loyal state police in the lower-48 handle that additional work load? These foreign-national truckers have low-overhead (few expenses) as they are not required the same safety and insurance maintenance and upkeep on their trucks, as American truckers, and thus can haul for far less per load than our own truckers— and will take our jobs. This is not a threat, or something that may happen— it has been in the planning stages for many years now. American truckers WILL lose their jobs. In that process, American families (children in particular) will suffer unnecessarily and egriciously. The greedy employers who hire the illegal aliens will increase their profits and our living wages will continue to dramatically decline.

This policy will be a complete reversal of the current trucking laws and regulations that govern our U.S.teamster truckers, independent trucking organizations, and mom-and-pop trucking families. This will work to destroy the trucker’s livelihoods and futures— as for many, this is all they have ever done. We cannot allow this to happen, not even to test it. It is the criminal, ill willed plan of our government to displace American truckers from American jobs.
