A captain serving as a company commander with the Paratroopers Brigade has asked to be relieved of his command following allegations that he sexually abused several subordinates, Ynet learned Friday.
The accusations, which allege the officer molested at least 15 soldiers while their company was stationed on a training base, were brought to the attention of his superiors courtesy of the base's rumor mill.
The case began to unravel when the captain's fellow officers became aware of his actions, which were supposedly perpetrated on his victims in their sleep.
The officers approached their superior officer who immediately ordered an inquiry into the matter. To everyone's dismay, the probe substantiated the allegations.
Paratroopers Brigade Commander Colonel Amir Baram was apprised of the situation immediately.
The officer was summoned to a hearing, during which he asked to be relieved of his duties in the Paratroopers Brigade and end his military service without delay.
His request was granted by both his direct commanding officer and GOC Central Command Maj.-Gen. Avi Mizrahi.
None of the soldiers involved have filed an official complaint with the Military Police, who are currently reviewing the evidence pending a decision on a full criminal investigation.
