Four people were sent to the hospital after a motorized paraglider collided in mid-air with a hot air balloon earlier today.
It happened Saturday morning during an airport open house in Cottonwood.
According to Sgt. Gareth Braxton of the Cottonwood Police Department, the balloon and paraglider became entangled at an altitude of about 500 feet.
Eyewitnesses say that the balloon ripped open and both aircraft fell to the ground at a high rate of speed. The balloon and the paraglider crash landed in an empty parking lot.
Three people aboard the balloon suffered minor injuries. The paraglider pilot suffered head and spinal injuries and was airlifted to an area hospital, but authorities say that the injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening.
