This is pretty damn cool.

Put A Plug In It! Water, a Drain, the Equator, and the Coriolis Effect
Advertisers

The coriolis effect doesn't work on such small scales. It would not have a varying impact over several feet no matter what the position on Earth. Small currents and the shape of the basin have a much larger impact. So whether this guy flipped the tub around or it had to do with how he poured the water in is the most likely cause. Just because a toilet is in the Northern hemisphere does NOT mean it will always drain clockwise and vice versa.

@w0lf1o
He appears to be shafting them.
"water rotation in home bathrooms under normal circumstances is not related to the Coriolis effect or to the rotation of the earth, and no consistent difference in rotation direction between toilets in the northern and southern hemispheres can be observed."

Exactly my guess: he can decide wich way he wants the current to go by the way he poures in the water. This isn't science, it's illusion.

@ommadawn The first time he drained it the water was perfectly still. He hadn't just poured water into it. The second and third time you can clearly see the water rotates based on the way he poured the water into the corner and put it in motion.

@oisact exactly what i saw. The curved sink helps the water being poured keeps a momentum to initiate a vortex. 30 seconds later maybe, the water would have go straight down

FAKE !!! Watch which side he pours the water in the sink from, first time from the left side of the sink, water rotates to the right, second time he pours the water from the right side, water rotates to the left. It's all a set up and this Sh!t is fake as ever.

Ok....i could be wrong but am I to believe that line is EXACTLY the half way point? and that moving only a few feet changes the direction?
ALSO he is pouring on opposite sides creating swirl in the desired direction.

Just to point out that he's pouring water into the bin on different sides each time to "prime" the vortex in the proper direction, but when he started the pour the first time the water was probably sitting for a while. It doesn't work on such a small scale, fucktards.

@Marcone-XIII Its only fair to see if he drowns in the water if you throw him in a lake first. If he drowns hes not a wizard. If he lives then he is and you can safely burn him thereafter.

Interesting that the water was already in the basin at the start of his demo... and he got no vortex. When he poured the water into the left side of the basin he got a clockwise vortex... then, when he poured it into the right side of the basin he got a counterclockwise rotation.
Seems fairly likely that by pouring the water in the desired direction, there is enough of a weak directional current that when the plug is pulled, it creates a corresponding coriolis effect. I could see the possibil More..

@AlbuqBill: Yes, Sherlok. It has nothing to do with with the hemispheres. How accurate do you think that red line is? That's pretty much a conventional line. The Coriolis effect doesn't influence the water drain. Google for Coriolis effect.

This doesn't seem right to me... I assumed the Coriolis effect would only become noticeable a significant distance from the equator, not merely a few feet either side of it.
