Cave Diving In Croatia [HIGH DEF]

Hey, what should we do with all our old tires? Burn them? Toss them in a field? Nah, let's chuck them down that pristine miracle of nature over there. Out of sight out of mind.

By the way, you should never try swimming in any underground water that you might find in a cave or old mine-shaft unless you're sure it's been explored and is safe. People die diving in because the water is so clear it looks like they'll be okay. There can be trapped gas retained by the surface tension of the water, it escapes and when you come up you've got no air to breath, it's all been displaced by methane or something. Also, fine silt can be stirred up, and you can become disoriented and not be able to find your way back to the surface. Totally blinded you don't know which way is up and accidentally swim deeper, or in the wrong direction. Probably a horrifying way to die.

I don't have to worry about it though because dark water scares the hell out of me. I always know there's some giant creature just out of sight observing me. My imagination gets away from me and I can't help thinking what the scariest possible thing to swim in to view might be... Like a huge mutant catfish monster with three sets of human arms or something, and, it's got it's offspring embedded all over it's back in little cavities with their squirming arms and heads sticking out, like those gross south-American frogs. They're always just far enough in to the darkness that I can't spot them.

  • I have done some cave diving in the cenotes in the Yucatan and I agree... it's one of the scariest things I have ever done.

I once had my light start to flicker and then go out for a few seconds..... you can't even imagine how disorienting that is. The panic was immense and it made me realize I really didn't like cave diving all that much.

  • I did some cave diving once in the Dominican Republic and it was an experience I will never forget. We were three with a German guide who knew very well the cave. We had planned the dive and knew where we were meant to be going at any time, although we basically just had to follow the guide. At some point, there was a passage into a chamber which was just too narrow for all of us to go in at the same time, so in turns, one had to wait outside while the others went in. When it was my turn to be l More..

  • Yeah, stellar video quality, Stone. Caves fascinate me, but freak me out at the same time. Shame to see friggin' tires in such a beautiful place though. But one up side...they might provide a nice artificial spawning shelter for the cave creatures!
Thanks for the post dude, voted.

  • What a shame. We are subjecting our planet to a slow painful death.
We are all going to die.

    • In all fairness... 99.9% of people have more sense than to dump trash in to a pristine underwater cavern situated below an ancient hill-top cathedral in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

I think most people would be outraged to see someone throw garbage in there.

  • Fascinating video. I didn't think they would pass beyond the horizontal squeeze but they did, and then went deeper and deeper. Wow! The rocks are beautiful, the water so pure is such a treat to look at and thru. But not a single living critter. This is pure mineral.
There must be old folks legends about waterholes and caverns like that.

  • I'm with you 110% on not going into dark water. With my luck I'd swim into what looks like a cave only to find out its the mouth of a whale shark.

  • They probably do it just to watch them sink through the clear water.

    • Yeah I wrote that, dark water bugs me. I hate when I'm treading water and sea-weed or something touches my toe.

  • Um, not that big of a deal. There were not that many tires, so pick them up! Seems to be a death trap.

    • Im guessing some of it got washed down there as runoff or perhaps during flooding..

Im surprised there were no bodies, or skeletons of animals.. or handguns..
