Sir, sir, wake up please, you are not allowed to sleep on the mountain. Now please remove yourself and take your goods with you.

There are all kinds of corpses up there. Not to mention countless oxygen cylinders and all kinds of other junk left behind over the years.

Taking the new climbing tech into consideration ( wear and hardware ) I'd say that those that made it to the top in the old days , had less to work with therefore had more inner strength and skill..so they deserve the real credit of their achievement .
But a fail , unfortunately is a fail ..any time .

@soilentgreene Trying to compare inner strength is difficult with 2 people standing next to each other. It is damn near impossible to do so when one of the people is dead. They are hard asses nonetheless

There are over 200 dead bodies on that mountain.

Somebody needs to make a coffee table book full of pictures of all the dead bodies up there. Maybe a little bio page next to the glossy photos. I'd bet money it would sell millions of copies.
There are shitloads of dead bodies up there all lying right where they FROZE TO DEATH. Brutal way to go.

@dav1936531 Yeah, good idea. Why don't you do it. Ask people who climb to take pics of the bodies and locale with height and GPS and any ID available on the body.
Pay the climbers. Have a noble purpose and you'll get their co-operation.

@Triode Actually, I was being kind of facetious. But I have no doubt such a book would actually sell. People will pay money to satiate their morbid curiosities.

@dav1936531 You would not believe the money there is some things. Have a look, if you will at the money that some books make and have a look at e-books too. BTW it does not take all that much effort to write a book. It is mostly the accumulation of detail, photos, editing that takes up the time.
On 'morbid curiosities' if you make noble your purpose and can even explore the motivations of the climber then the fact of a frozen body disappears into fascinating history.

The story itself is interesting.
But I hate these made for television programs.
They rely almost solely on reenactments, and melodramatic music, to artificially heighten the emotional impact. That is a form of manipulation I really dislike.

The route up mount Everest is littered with bodies i saw part of a recent documentary and climbers where talking about it.. said it was sad to see but they could not be recovered and were literally stepping over them..crazy stuff.

Some day, man may scale the 85,000 foot Olympus Mons of Mars.
Also found between George Mallory's legs, a large set of brass balls.
