A fire at an old people's home in the Austrian town of Egg has killed at least 11 people.
Another six have been injured, three of them seriously.
The victims are reported to have died of smoke inhalation.
Around 250 fire fighters battled the blaze but fears that the building which was more than 140 years old might collapse hampered rescue efforts.
Eventually an other 23 elderly residents of the retirement home were taken to safety.
It is not known what caused the fire which is thought to have started at the back of the building.
