Big Oil Buys Senate To Protect Government Subsidies (Corporate Welfare)
Via Think Progress: "In a 51-47 vote, 43 Senate Republicans and four Democrats filibustered to protect $24 billion in tax breaks for Big Oil. Although a majority voted for Sen. Robert Menendez's (D-NJ) bill, it fell short of the 60 needed...A Think Progress Green analysis shows how oil and gas companies have funneled cash to the same senators who protected its handouts...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

Idiots don't realize that those tax breaks to oil help keep the cost of practically everything consumers buy manageable.
Businesses don't pay taxes. The cost of dealing with government gets passed to the consumer in the price of the product.

Listen, children, this is REALLY how your government works. Big oil, big military contractors and big banks OWN your Senate and House.
Now, read below in the followng comments how dumb Alabamans excuse big oil allowing DC to continue to screw America!

"$24 billion in tax breaks for Big Oil"
Are they talking about depletion expense or actual checks written to the oil companies?
Oil companies involved in exploration get a couple of interesting write-offs.
1) Intangible drilling costs,
2) Percentage depletion expense.
Are these the two "breaks" or "subsidies" that they are talking about? Because if it is, then this is just political hyperbole. If it's not, then could someone direct me to the actual tax code, reg More..

@Yukon6400
Nepean109, by giving me a negative rating, are you saying we shouldn't know what subsidy they are talking about, or YOU know what the subsidy is and you don't want to share that, or what? Which part of what I said do you disagree with?

The funny thing is that americans are really convinced they have the moral and legal authority to lead the west. :)
Then one day they wake up to find out they have been torturing, killing, slaughtering civilians in wars based on fabricated claims... etc etc.
Perhaps one day they will realize that the talebans hadn't invented the "invisible airplane" technology yet and thus they were not behind 9/11 ;)

~the smelly, young, commie turds. Hey, one thing these stupid lying leftist scumbags fail to tell us, is that there are no special tax breaks for oil-producers. The filthy lying dogs all know that ALL businesses get these same breaks. Have a happy day, stupid lemmings.

@drop-top-pop wrong. it's who is buying the oil, who, since 2003, have been financial institutions. they are buying low and selling really really high.

@bigoleboobs if supply is greater than demand, it will come down, thats basic economics. untill we have a leader who has a basic undersanding of economics and not a taste for distruction of our country, prices will stay high.
i only have a high school education, so please check me on this.

Five companies that made a trillion dollars in 10 years equals 20 billion in profit per year per company.
The gov't burns through that in less than 50 days.
So why did the Dumb Turd pick five companies and 10 years? It was the only way to make a number that sounded massive. Why didn't he pick 10 companies and 20 years?
Or more why didn't he more honestly pick the smallest company over one year and defend why it's acceptable to disadvantage them in comparison to the larger companies?
The TRUT More..

Seems only fair, if we are going to subsidize Brazilian oil companies and our oil companies have to compete with them. I'm not sure what this idiots point is. You could apply his argument about political donations to unions and the Democrats. At least with corporations the monies are given voluntarily where as union rank and file have no say, only their commie leadership does.
