We have given extensive coverage to the deadly debacle that is Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s War on Drugs here at The 420 Times. The sheer amount of death and heartache that inhabits the Mexican nation currently is impossible to put into words.
Make no mistake, the Mexican government’s war with the drug cartels is the direct cause of all this death. Of course that is not to say the cartels are the good guys; they are a violent and disgusting bunch of thugs who kill innocent women and children for profit – they are the scum of the scum.
But the way to defeat them is not gun battles. The markets that feed them their profits have to be destroyed, and many of those markets would collapse overnight with drug legalization.
But legalization in Mexico alone won’t solve the problem since most of the cartel’s products are consumed at inflated prices here in the U.S. Only a worldwide end to drug prohibition will destroy the black market and the massive profits that fuel drug cartels everywhere, whether it be Mexico, Colombia, Afghanistan or somewhere else.

Obama backs Mexico's failed "War on Drugs"

If the drug wars were stopped all the money that was put in to stopping the flow of drugs in to the US would to go towards treatment and rehab for the drug addicts.

oh silly boy. why focus on the problem as it is.
better to throw millions at 'fixing' it.
see how well it has been working.
wonder how long it will be before common sense has any traction.

There are no easy fixes like so many here seem to think. The problem is complex at best and dangerous at worst.
Legalization, what does this mean exactly?? Does it mean decriminalizing it so a person can have a quantity equal to “personal use”? So do we allow people to sell it, or just possess it? If this is the stance you take the issue doesn’t change because selling it is still illegal. No decrease in the violence.
So do we make it a legal commodity, and tax it? If so what are the contin More..

less cockroaches, more oxygen for the rest of us...you can thank obama and his democrat clown car for giving the cartels the weapons they needed to slaughter their own :)

That's the murders that were reported. There were still thousands that have gone missing. In an area of western Mexico, the government has been pushing into Los Zetas territory. There they have discovered so many mass graves all over rural areas and ghost towns created by the Drug War.

@Dream76 How many americans die from alcohol, tobacco and eating unhealthy? End everything. The cartels can be wiped out. Even if everything was legal, the black market will still be much cheaper. Look at the prices of "medical marijuana."
