I believe you don't treat a sucking chest wound by packing it with gauze..it will only put pressing against the lungs and cause it to collapse faster. What you need to do is make a special dressing that lets air out but not inwards so the pressure doesnt build up. And the plastic stick at 3:30, you don't just clip it.. you twist it to get some extra pressure over the wound before you secure it.

@Ig Nition Re-watch the video and listen more closely. He says that you would only use packing gauze on a limb for that exact reason. He also shows the plastic square that is used to cover a sucking chest wound.

Nobody has those materials (NPA) available to them. The part on packing a wound was good. That could be useful to the average Joe.

@XR400R I'm not sure who he aimed this video at exactly, but I have and had NPAs issued to me with my first aid kit. Dressings, tourniquet etc. I have civilian first aid kits that include them as well.
