US Womens Team Dominates at 2011 World Gymnastics Championships

The United States Womens Team blew away the competition at the 2011 World Gymnastics Championships, which concluded October 16. Initially hobbled by the loss of team captain Alicia Sacramone and bar worker Anna Li due to injuries during training in Tokyo, the remaining five girls remained confident and bonded together to crush the second place Russian team by an amazing four points. In third were the Chinese followed by the Romanian team. More amazing yet was that between the qualifying rounds and the team finals, the US women competed 32 routines without a fall. Following the gold medal result in the team finals, Jordyn Wieber went on to win the individual all around title, McKayla Maroney won gold in the vault event final, and both Jordyn Wieber and Alexandra Raisman earned bronze medals in the beam and floor exercise event finals. These results put the rest of the world on notice that the United States team is the one to beat at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.
