  • From peak to trough with a 6 second roll in means a 60 ft wave taken full in the face with a steel wall behind. Very dangerous. Hope they found him. I was in seas like this with 1/6, 2nd mar div aboard the U.S.S. Saipan back in 86' when a helo went overboard with 19 men. You freeze in these temps in less than 3 minutes. 8 marines died that day. The open ocean will humble any person.

  • At least they still have Aircraft carriers. WE DON'T ANYMORE!!.Come and invade the UK at your leisure, anytime after 5pm Monday to Friday, or all day Saturday and Sunday, as no one is on duty.

  • Falling overboard in conditions like that is an instant emergency, even if the person has full gear to stay afloat. Delay of only minutes could distance the vessel from the person enough to make his locating extremely difficult. In military vessels they should have lookouts that, if getting a visual on the person overboard, will point their hand in that precise direction and not look anywhere else unless ordered otherwise. That's what the soldiers looking for him should do as well. That's becaus More..

  • I have a deep seated fear and respect for the ocean...brrr, if i was on that carrier i would be up in the pilothouse or whatever it's called, NOT downthere by the swells :S.

    • @DamnNation The water here in Southern California is like 76 degrees right now. Ive been snorkeling the coast line every day. I saw a tiger shark yesterday. 7 feet, and mean looking. Also saw a leopard shark. They were swarming. The ocean is just teeming with life right now. And the water is crystal clear, what a great summer.

  • Right before that huge wave hits you'll notice a guy on the extreme left taking photos against the railing. That's the guy who went bye-bye (not the guy filming this).

  • Meanwhile, men and women in 35 ft sailboats are traversing cape horn and other dangerous locales.

  • Hope noone got carried away. Being lost at sea is fucking terrible.

  • Been a maritime officer for some years now. With such high seas are all hatches and doorways closed, and is it forbidden to especially go out on the lower decks with such swell. This guy did not have one chance as he is knocked unconscious by either that wave or when smashed into the compartment or railing, and then flushed into the sea. RIP dumb Russian sailor.
