Kings Plaza Shopping Center in Brooklyn is owned and operated by Vornado Realty Trust which leases office space to Bloomberg LP. This very fact gives Vornado "special priviledges" such as immunity to city ordinances. Vornado also leases space to the Federal Government which also grants the corporation immunity.
This video was filmed July 3rd, 2008 at Kings Plaza Mall as jack hammers and demolition crews invade the peace of the community adjacent the mall. This is a round the clock operation. The Mall management does not permit the work crews to make noise during business hours as it will disrupt tenants and mall patrons. An irrate security guard was filmed slamming doors on the work crews so that they couldn't conduct the noisy operation during business hours. Instead, the work crews began the noisy and disruptive operation after mall hours and continued throughout the night. Jack hammers and demolition crews were heard by residents all night long. There are safety violations at this site along with numerous hazardous conditions. Working families, men, women, children and babies should not have to be subjected to thunderous noise throughout the night. Residents will call upon City Councilman Lew Fidler and State Senator Carl Krueger to investigate the conduct of every party involved in this what clearly appears to be an illegal operation structured by Vornado Realty Trust.
