Mitt Romney Tax Rate A Mystery

"Mitt Romney could not say today whether he had ever paid a tax rate lower than 13.9 percent, saying he would have to "go back and check." In an exclusive interview with ABC News' David Muir to air tonight on World News, Romney was asked if there has ever been a year when he paid less than 13.9 percent, the rate he paid in 2010...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

  • When will people ever understand, this is the tax rate on capital gains. I assure you he was taxed well over 50% when working but when you invest your hard earned money into stocks, bonds or other entities.. and make money from it, you are taxed by the government at a lower rate. WHY? Cause it is your money being invested and the government wants you to invest it.

This is so simple yet people will not take the time to understand tax law and the simple taxing percentages of capital gains. More..

The libs understand plenty. They just don't want reality to get in the way of a good bit of propaganda.

Proof? Every rich, 1% lib does exactly the same damn thing. From Pelosi to Gore to Bono and every inch of Hollywood in between.

Well I think you assume too much. My liberal friends don't even read the constitution. I do believe the liberal media understand but no way the liberal, Obama voting general public. NO WAY NO HOW!!

  • Good for Romney for having smart accountants to make sure as much of his money goes where it can best be distributed... himself, and not wasteful and fraudulent govt.

more than 2/3rds of our dollars are spent on social welfare programs that don't work, and are bankrupting us. Infrastructure spending is just code for don't take away our hand-outs. If our infastructure were crumbling it's not because people don't pay their fair share, it's because government waste the money given to them.

  • I ever don't know if *I've* ever paid a tax rate lower than 13.9% and frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn one way or the other so why should I care about somebody else?

That's not what he said. Romney said that if he paid more than was necessary, he wouldn't be qualified because paying more than what is required to a corrupt, wasteful government is admittedly stupid.

And he only paid that rate because it is capital gains rate rather than income tax and the government has an interest in seeing you invest money. When he was CEO and had a job, I'm sure his taxes were very high.
