Stephen Bolton, 33, is in the Marion County Jail this morning on initial charges of rape, robbery, criminal confinement, strangulation and sexual battery, records show. His bond is $100,000.
Bolton, police said, assaulted a worker and robbed the BP station, 8558 Northwest Blvd., at 11:40 p.m. Sunday.
Bolton beat the 19-year-old woman in the face and shoulders while holding a knife to her throat, police said. He sexually assaulted her and left her, unconscious, in the back of the store. She was treated and later released from an area hospital.
The Star does not typically identify victims of sexual assault.
Detective Jonathan Haynes noted in his police report that Bolton had tattoos on his left forearm and right calf that matched tattoos seen on the attacker in video surveillance images.
Bolton had bruised and swollen knuckles and scratches on his arms, Haynes wrote in the report.
In an interview with police, Bolton did not admit or deny being involved in the robbery, but “was adamant that he did not rape anyone,” Haynes wrote.
Bolton was arrested after midnight today at a home in the 900 block of North Oxford Avenue.
Officers also arrested Bolton’s father, Royce Bolton, 47, at a home in the 900 block of Highland Avenue on a warrant in connection with a domestic violence case.
