Latest news in Iran

In such situations and specially with the efforts of Iranian govt to stop the flow of info we can't depend on major news sources.
I'm going to put up bits and pieces I've read on various Iranian forums:

"Karroubi and Karbaschi are not under house arrest, based on Ms Ghazi's twitter reports. http://twitter.com/iranbaan"

"Iran's Ex-Foreign Minister Yazdi: It's A Coup "
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/dreyfuss/443348

Radio Farda's report on the ongoing arrests:
http://www.radiofarda.com/content/f4...n/1753692.html
-Wide spread riot and demonstartions in Iran after hearing the results
-As Ahmadinejad was speaking on tv many political activists and news paper editors were arrested
-There are reports that members of the Iranian Islamic front(I translated the farsi don't know their English name)have been arrested and moved to an unknown location after an emergency meeting by the group.
-The spokesperson of Khatami, and many more major players in Iran have been arrested
-There are rumors that Khatami's brother and his wife have been arrested (Just a rumor however)
I will translate the rest of the radio farda report later

Something I read on an Iranian forum
"this is what I got on facebook through a friend, no idea how true it is."
1) The tajrish police station has been taken over by the ppl
2) A police station has also been taken over in tabriz
3) A telecom center in amir abad has been set on fire
4) FROM TUESDAY THERE WILL BE A WIDESPREAD STRIKE AGAINST THE DICTATORSHIP AND WILL CONTINUE INDEFINITELY
again those are just rumors

from the lede blog on NYT:

Quote:
I’m sitting in my grandparents’ house in Tehran right now and I’m hearing mini-explosions, there’s helicopters flying around, it smells like smoke, and it took fifteen minutes for this website to load because they’ve slowed down the internet so much here. On top of that they’ve basically blocked parts of Iran from the international phone network so I can’t even call my mother. 80% of the Iranian people did not enthusiastically turn out in order to re-elect someone who has ruined this country both economically and culturally. The Iranian people know that this election was rigged. How could it have been possible for Moussavi to lose Tabriz when he is from Iranian Azerbaijan and Ahmadinejad has abysmal approval ratings amongst Turkic speaking Iranians? [...]

Facebook does not work, YouTube does not work, basically all communications are down. You tell me sir, if they did not rig the elections where are all the people who supported Ahmadinejad? Why aren’t they celebrating? Why is the mood in Tehran, even southern Tehran so gloomy? Why is the government so scared?

"First the allah akbar, now general strikes... looks like Sazegara is really directing this movement.

http://twitter.com/iranbaan (says Tuesday is strike day, urges people all over the world to support this effort.... no more details given yet)

"From the Huffington Post:
"My next door neighbor is an Iranian immigrant who came here in 1977. He just received a SAT phone call from his brother in Tehran who reports that the rooftops of nighttime Tehran are filled with people shouting 'Allah O Akbar' in protest of the government and election results. The last time he remembers this happening is in 1979 during the Revolution. Says the sound of tens of thousands on the rooftops is deafening right now. It's almost four in the morning in Iran.""

"One of my friend's wife is in Iran, he just spoke to her ... apparently, quite a few mosques and banks have been set ablaze ... people are still protesting, it's 4am in the morning too!

Burn the mosques, burn the banks ... this is the way to go! As many know, I'm a Muslim, but God is not spoken of in these mosques, it's Khomeinism and Sepahism that is spread, so they need to be burned to the ground."

I will update later
