US Consolate Vehicle Attacked in Pakistan

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- An explosives-filled
car slammed into a U.S. Consulate vehicle in the Pakistani city of
Peshawar, but conflicting reports have emerged about whether any
Americans were killed in the suicide attack.
Two U.S. personnel and
two Pakistani employees of the consulate were in the vehicle and were
wounded, but no U.S. Consulate employees were killed, State Department
spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said in a statement.
She said the U.S. authorities were "seeking further information about other victims of this heinous act."

The local Information
Minister Iftikhar Hussain, meanwhile, showed reporters the passport of
an American he said was believed to have been killed in the attack. He
earlier said two Americans died in the blast.
He said the attack also wounded at least 19 people, including a woman and two children.

CNN was seeking further clarification from both Pakistani and U.S. authorities about the discrepancy.

The attack took place in
an area of the city where several international agencies have offices.
In addition to the U.S. Consulate, the U.N. refugee agency, UNHCR, is
also located in the area.
Peshawar is about 190 kilometers (120 miles) from the country's capital, Islamabad.

In May 2011, a
remote-controlled car bomb targeted a convoy of U.S. Consulate vehicles
in Peshawar, killing one and wounding 11. The Taliban claimed
responsibility for the attack.
In April 2010, three explosions went off in rapid succession near the consulate.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, of
which Peshawar is the capital, is rife with Islamic extremists and has
been the site of recent clashes between Pakistani security forces and
militants.
It was formerly known as
the North West Frontier Province, a name assigned during the British
colonial rule. The ruling party changed the name to reflect the
province's majority Pashtun population.

  • If you've dealt with me in the past, you KNOW how I feel about picking fights with random countries. Well, get ready to rejoice, because this is one of those instances where my suggestion to our armed forces to make that shit-hole of a country into a sheet of glass...actually, make it a parking lot...hell, make it a theme park...make it a fucking mud crater...I really do not care how we fire back so long as these guys are paid-in-full for the American lives lost in this attack.
