The French Heart worm (Angiostrongylus Nematode) is spread by eating snails. The worm larva found
in the snail migrate from the dogs intestines to reach the heart where
the worms develop to maturity. Larval worms then leave the heart, enter
the lungs and are coughed up. In this case some of the larvae have
migrated to the eye. Both eyes contain live worms which are removed
surgically. The puppy made a full recovery with no heart or eye problems.
