LEXINGTON, KY (WRCB) -- A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and leaving her corpse in a Harrison County, Kentucky home alone with her two young daughters pleaded not guilty Wednesday before spitting on a judge.
Investigators say Bass Webb killed Bryia Runiewicz in her home sometime Friday morning then drove to Bourbon County, where he tried tried to run over two deputies outside the Bourbon County Detention Center.
Officers were able to arrest Webb after his car caught fire during a subsequent chase.
Police say Webb, upon his arrest, admitted that he had killed Runiewicz then wrapped her body in a blanket.
During Wednesday's hearing, judge Vanessa Dixon recused herself from the case because she knows the two deputies who Webb allegedly tried to run down.
As she was explaining her reason for recusing, Webb, who was standing in front of Dixon, spat at her.
After a few moments, Webb was led away by deputies.
There is no word if Webb will face additional charges in the spitting incident.
Webb is also charged with two counts of attempted murder in the Detention Center incident.
