PARIS, FRANCE – French President Nicolas Sarkozy expressed his deep condolences to the family of the fallen legionnaire following his death during a mission in Afghanistan, the President’s press office announced on Thursday.
The legionnaire, whose name wasn’t released to the media, was seriously injured by Afghan shots. He was a member of the second regiment of foreign paratroopers. The soldier was supporting a mission that was supposed to assist the Afghan troops in the south valley of TAGAB.
He was transported in a helicopter the nearest hospital but he was pronounced dead upon arrival to the French hospital in Kabul.
“This soldier has paid with his life the French commitment to secure the wellness of the Afghan residents,” President Sarkozy said.
President Sarkozy confirmed that France will continue to support International Forces in the mission of recovering the stability and the peace in Afghanistan.
