Its in the field, saw this on almost every hummer i Iraq (Force protections hummers from Kuwait to Bagdad) but I always thougt it was a HF antena. Damn i feel stupid now. This is a F*** smart system but how does it work in real urban war...? The sound bounce off an on walls."
Yep, the sound bounces, but that means the indirect sound waves hit the microphone array after the direct waves. So if a shot is More..

  • mHtt: "in other words...

How can this system separate multiple shooters, multiple ranges, and multiple calibers...?

I mean it seems ok vs one sniper, but against 3 teams, of 3 each, like western snipers work together. Not to mention this tv shows tells any would be snipers where to place the first shot... on the system itself... "
also, not much use against IEDs, which I'm guessing is the single most lethal weapons against American troops

  • Interesting. Couple this with a belt fed grenade launcher etc to automatically return fire and this could make things very hot for all snipers.
It would still mean the almost certain death of one trooper but at least the shooter wouldnt want to hang around for a second or third go.
Forget shoot and scoot. Shoot and run like bloody hell.

defeating this is as simple as providing multiple simultaneous input...

The acoustic signature from separate rounds may be detected and identified using the spatial distribution of the microphone array and the speed of sound. "
Yes... but illiterate hajis don't know the wonders of advanced math and physices...
