Cheerleading coach arrested on sex abuse charges after victim's mom discovers secret texts

A shocked
mother's discovery of cell phone texts speaking of love and sex between
her 14-year-old son and his 23-year-old San Jose cheerleading coach led
to the man's arrest, according to court documents filed Wednesday.Anthony
Loza -- who coached at Andrew Hill High School and Energy Athletics --
was formally charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor count related
to the alleged molestations of the teenager. Loza was arraigned
Wednesday and expected to bail out of custody after posting $160,000. A
plea is scheduled for Jan. 12. If convicted of all charges, Loza could
face up to 4 years and 4 months behind bars.Riccardo Ippolito, Loza's attorney, said that his office had been flooded with letters of support for the coach.

"He is not a predator,'' Ippolito said. "He's positively affected many students that he has coached.''

Loza is charged with having a three-month sexual relationship with one of his young charges.

Court documents said that after the mother confronted her son with the damning texts the teenager admitted the two had kissed.

investigators with the San Jose police soon discovered that it was more
than that. Documents stated that both boy and adult later admitted to
police that they had sex, more than once."(Suspect) said he knew (Victim) was only 14 but he loves him and it just happened,'' the document stated.
