.17HMR vs. Ground Squirrels

From Source:

235 +/- squirrels less on the farm... this was taken over a two day period where the problem was not solved completely, but certainly addressed... The dead land in the film use to be rows of trees, and the piles of limb and branches in the video are whats left of the trees. The green is the neighboring alfalfa which they are severely threatening...

Rifle in this video is a Ruger 77/17 with a Tasco World Class Scope..(6x-24x-44mm) The ammo used is Hornady .17HMR ballistic tip.

    • Peta wont like it, but it is actually a humain way of dealing with rodents, Most videos like this come from farms where they have huge rodent problems every year with the crop they grow, only 2 ways to get rid of them, Poisen or shooting, Do you want to die from a intense stomic ache? give me the bullet, i want out.

    • PETA is an asshole company. They bought a $30,000 walk-in freezer. WHY?! So the animals they would kill, would slowly freeze to death instead of being killed with chemicals.

    • i wouldnt think so. This looks a million times more humane than what we do to live stock. If all hunting is like this i might just start doing it. Only reason i dont is i dont want to make them suffer. You know, shooting it in the stomach or something (and im talking bigger game like boar or deer) and seeing it in agony.

anyways, nice vid. Looks like instant death for the most part.

    • --yeah, man i'm not against target practice on these vermin-- but it's alot of time and expense--and they breed like any other rodent--can't re-introduce the natural predators--so a few dogs would do--and you're only buying kibble----

  • Anyway, like I was sayin', squirrel is the fruit of the field. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, squirrel-kabobs, squirrel creole, squirrel gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple squirrel, lemon squirrel, coconut squirrel, pepper squirrel, squirrel soup, squirrel stew, squirrel salad, squirrel and potatoes, squirrel burger, squirrel sandwich. That- that's about it.

  • Damn good shooting. You grow alfalfa this time of the year in Michigan? Or was this shot much earlier?

I have some problems with them here on my 12 acres in Florida, but nothing like that. I harvest Nuts on my property.chestnuts,pecans,scuppernongs,blueberries,walnuts... I keep my snake population higher than most people around here. I treat the snakes like best friends...I only will destroy rattlenakes, cottonmouths and coral snakes because I dont wont anyone to get bit or my dog to get nailed. More..

    • Sounds like quite a place and bio pest controle works better than poison .And shooting is sometimes better than that.

    • Yeah, it's pretty cool. Have a creek running through it. Had an Alligator last year but havent seen him this year. Getting cooler now so I'm sure he's getting holed up by now. The other farms around me are always shooting. I've only had to get rid of feral cats and armadillos this year.

  • The most impressive squireel genocide ever shown. The bambi lovers commenting here can't understand the damage critters do, especially with crops and in a rural area. He said the squirrels were eating his crops i think (the alfalfa) so what is he supposed to do, let them eat his cash crop? Squirrels you are guilty of being a varmints, the penalty is death.
