Philadelphia Animal Welfare Examiner A 12-year-old Jack Russell Terrier/Whippet named Scupper desperately needs our help.
Currently located in Salisbury, Maryland, Scupper has been inseparable from his human mom since birth. Unfortunately, his mom was diagnosed with cancer about a year ago, and Scupper has been a reason for her to wake up and fight every day since.
Her fight has become futile, though, as nothing more can be done for her, and her last wish is to see Scupper find a wonderful home for the remainder of his life.
Her family, while all animal lovers, have large dogs that don't get along with Scupper's exuberance, so they can't take him in. Scupper also cannot live with cats, which presents another problem for the family. The neighbors aren't able to take in the active dog, so the only other option, unless a forever home can be found soon, will be to place Scupper in a shelter.
Scupper needs a family who will be able to handle his high activity level (a Jack Russell trait, regardless of age!), and who can provide a fenced-in yard for Scupper to run and release his energy. Scupper is in great health, mentally and physically, and has been fully vetted. The only thing he needs now is someone who can hold him and tell him it's okay when his mom is no longer there.
This is a dog who loves snuggling up with his guardian in bed (if you'll allow him), cuddling up with you on the sofa to watch a movie, and taking walks!
