The incident was aired in Italy on Wednesday night, during comedian Elena Di Cioccios TV show called Le Iene (The Hyenas). The premise of the joke, as explained by Di Cioccio (who looks like she could be the love-child of Simon Jordan/Robbie Savage and Lady Gaga), was to see how Beckham measured up after it emerged he had been dropped as a Giorgio Armani underwear model, with Cristiano Ronaldo taking his place.

Di Cioccio: Off the pitch we have seen fascinating photographs of David Beckham in his underpants and seemingly very well endowed and even his wife says that he is well equipped and calls him Goldenballs. Well the image may have slipped slightly as he has been replaced in the Armani campaign by a younger footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, but we wanted to find out if he was as well endowed as the pictures suggest or if they were touched up.

Fully equipped with her yellow gloves, Di Cioccio tracked down Beckham giving an interview in the street before she slowly managed to weasel her way closer and closer to the star. Once in striking distance, Di Cioccio made her move to check out Becks Goldenballs, only for the former England captain to react quickly, stepping backwards, and giving an icy cold glare to the female TV host
