The LAPD bomb squad is using a robot remotely operated vehicle, or ROV, to coax the suspect out of his Volkswagen beetle. An ROV isn't a robot, technically speaking, because it's remotely operated by a human and not autonomous. But this one's sort of a humanoid drone, a machine proxy for a human negotiator.
