MoD names British soldier killed in Afghanistan
A British soldier killed in southern Afghanistan yesterday was named by the Ministry of Defence tonight as Sergeant Phillip Scott of 3rd Battalion the Rifles.
Scott, a married father of two who lived with his family in Edinburgh, deployed to Afghanistan in September alongside his brother Robin, also a sergeant in 3 Rifles.

More..ame week that five UK troops were killed when an Afghan policeman turned his gun on them inside a secure checkpoint.
Known as Scotty to his friends, Scott was born in Malton, North Yorkshire, in 1979 and joined the army in 2001.
He served in Iraq and Northern Ireland before being posted to the infantry training centre in Catterick, North Yorkshire, as an instructor for new recruits.
His comrades described him as a "natural soldier" whose upbringing as a gamekeeper's son in Yorkshire made him perfect for the role of reconnaissance.
His wife, Ellen, said: "My husband was a very brave man, loved by all his family and a very dear husband and father."
Lieutenant Colonel Nick Kitson, the commanding officer of 3 Rifles Battle Group, said he had lost one of his best junior commanders. "Sergeant Scott was the most professional of soldiers, the toughest of men and the gentlest of friends," he said.The defence secretary, Bob Ainsworth, said: "I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sergeant Phillip Scott, a soldier who had a glowing army career behind him and an equally bright future ahead, until his life was cruelly cut short."
The prime minister, Gordon Brown, said today that the UK "cannot and must not walk away from Afghanistan".
