A Boston, Massachusetts court mistakenly releases man wanted for numerous violent armed robberies in Rhode Island.
David L. Johnson, also known as David Lamont Johnson, was last known to reside in Massachusetts. Johnson is wanted for armed robberies at:
1) October 7, 2011 - 10:57 PM Quick Mart, 814 Diamond Hill Road, Woonsocket, RI
2) October 8, 2011 - 11:25 PM Perfect Pizza, 261 South Main Street, Woonsocket, RI
3) October 9, 2011 - 1:32 AM CT Plus Convenience, 11 Hamlet Avenue, Woonsocket, RI
4) October 10, 2011 - 7:40 AM IN-and-OUT Market, 2 Monument Square, Woonsocket, RI
Suspect pistol-whipped a victim at one of the robberies, victim received serious head injury.
Suspect fled from IN-and OUT Market onto Cato Street, before jumping into an older style JEEP, color black, driven by an accomplice who also pointed a gun at a pedestrian walking in the area.
Johnston, RI police said they want Johnson in connection with an attempted robbery and assault at Best Car Rentals on Monday afternoon. Investigators in Boston said Johnson tried to rob a fast food delivery two hours after the assault in Johnston.
"They said that he had just been arrested in Boston for a strong-arm robbery -- which is a robbery with hands, without a weapon -- and that they had arrested him for the same crime, but he had been released to appear on a later date on the robbery charge. So, Boston PD was able to send us a mug shot of the individual, and it turns out to be the same individual that we're looking for in the robbery that occurred at Best Rentals," Johnston Police Deputy Chief David DeCesare said.
Police said Johnson is from South Carolina and was visiting family in Rhode Island.
