A former Central Florida teacher will spend a month in jail for buying a keg of beer then selling it to dozens of high school students at a party she threw at a friends Malabar home earlier this year. The attorney for 30 year old Emily Meyer asked the judge to sentence his client to probation and community service but prosecutors wanted to send a message to anyone that providing alcohol to minors won’t be tolerated.Meyer admitted to a number of things in court as friends and former colleagues looked on. She admitted to buying the keg of beer. She also admitted that at the time she didn’t care if any of the students got hurt driving home after the party. Meyer says she was having emotional problems during that period of her life and that she was using drugs and alcohol which affected her judgment.

Several friends and former colleagues from her former school, Saturn Elementary, were character witnesses for Meyer. They called her an excellent teacher and a good mother but said she acted irresponsibly the day of the party. One of Meyer’s character witnesses was Saturn Elementary School Principal, Michael Miller. Meyer says she came clean to Miller after the party. She eventually lost her job with the school district and the state is currently reviewing her teaching certificate which is under suspension.

The judge sentenced Meyer to 30 days in jail, 11 months of probation and 50 hours of community service. She will also have to pay $800.00 in court and investigative costs.
