What is the context?
It seemed to me that a politician (or somebody) had to squeeze by and the SP was preventing the "protesters" from blocking his entry or exit from a building or a car.
Judging from their organized chaos, I'd say these were lefties.
They have their right to free speech as do we all, but they don't have the right to block the way.

I recognize the name (Daniel Ellsberg). While I remember the initial morning news report of some sort of break-in which turned into Watergate, I was still a bit young at the time. To me “power to the people” had no socialist or communist message. I wasn’t a fan of Nixon (particularly when he took us off gold), or a fan of our boys having to be in Nam.

I also wish these same people would go try and gather up in paki, somalia, iraq ect ect, then come back and complain. I stand by my belief that most protesters want police involved to further get noticed and cause that many more problems. This is not for everyone, but I'd say most.

well, without watching the whole thing, it's illegal to block streets and such without a prior permit. it can be a "peaceful" protest yet still obstruct traffic or business or such. some people just want to antagonize cops, i've done it myself a few times and paid for it.

A small group of people feel this is a police state. That same small group always finds a way to have contact with law enforcement. Prior to me joining a PD, I had never had any contact with police, nor did any of my friends. I guess you need a special pass to find out where this "police state" is. Nice try, but it's a free Bradley Manning protest and the police response is so very obviously disproportionate. It is utterly unjustified and driven by the politics of the issue being protesting. We need a bit more than drama whore camera work, shitty music, and loud hippies to get any meaning from this. Video fails. Having said that, I am definitely not a fan of draconian looking police mobs rolling around doing whatever they want. Makes my skin crawl. Well said, it looks like the police response was anticipating more than what materialized but they then lacked the intelligence or the flexibility to call off the dogs.
When you have an anti-riot team and the riot doesn't materialize you should not simply treat whoever shows up peacefully as if they are rioting. It's moronic and unjustified.
In this case the response was far worse than the protest.
Maybe they needed the overtime?
