DEELEN, The Netherlands - The F104 Starfighter the museum airbase Deelen (Deelen) is reported stolen last Saturday night. A note was found with the text "I'll fly away - See you next year!".
It's a mystery to the management of the museum and they hopes the iconic aircraft did not end up as scrap. The department has reported the theft, according to a statement made by the museum. The museum already started a twitter campaign in order to get any information of the whereabouts of the jet.
The jet weighs hundreds of pounds and is meters long.
It is a mystery how the thieves could steal the jet undetected and the management hopes it's a practical joke.
Deelen airbase museum is situated in the old buildings of the former airbase Deelen, a former German air force camp of World War II. The museum tells the history of the air base. Museum Deelen got the fighter some seven years ago from the Dutch Royal Airforce.
