Governor Walker's Victory Spells Doom For Public Sector Unions

Bill Frezza, Contributor . . Public sector unions have reached their high water mark. Let the cleanup begin as the red ink recedes.

Despite a last-minute smear campaign accusing Scott Walker of fathering an illegitimate love child, the governor’s recall election victory sends a clear message that should resonate around the nation: The fiscal cancer devouring state budgets has a cure, and he has found it. The costly defeat for the entrenched union interests that tried to oust Walker in retribution for challenging their power was marked by President Obama’s refusal to lend his weight to the campaign for fear of being stained by defeat. We’ll see how well this strategy of opportunistic detachment serves in the fall as Obama reaches out to unions for support.

This fight is not without precedent. Progressive patron saint Franklin Delano R

  • good, and unions have seen a drop in members, drop in revenue, drop in influence.

we need to weaken all these damn public sector unions. Not to mention their pensions are going drag down states.

    • @Zardoz003 It's these types of comments you leave Zardoz where we see eye to eye. You are so right in that Unions themselves are not bad, it is the existence of unions absent competition wherein corruption begins.

  • Outlaw all public sector unions. Offer only basic insurability, and pensions. You should not aspire to live your whole life in government. Return to being a public SERVANT. That will take all incentive out of trying to fleece the public.

  • i think putting the full culpability for the nations woes on unions is idiotic. are memories so freaking arrested that we have forgotten the banker bailouts? have we forgotten that unions have gained us the 8 hour workday, and child labor laws and the regulations governing overtime?

if you want to know what life was like before unions, i suggest you read a book called The Jungle, about the chicago meatpacking industry.

i realize that union administrations have become as criminal as the banker More..
