Son tried to cut out father's pacemaker with penknife

POLICE have charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked his father and tried to cut out his pacemaker using a penknife.

Jesse Fierstine, 32, is accused of striking his father Charles Fierstine, on the head with a flashlight and a piece of firewood Saturday, then cut the pacemaker from his chest using a pocketknife.

The alleged attack tooik place in Manchester, Northwest Iowa.

The Delaware County sheriff's office says in a statement the younger Fierstine was charged with attempted murder.

Charles Fierstine survived the alleged attempt on his life and was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The sheriff's office refused to release further details.
