Part of channel(s): Syria (current event)

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is continuing his brutal and violent
crackdown on protestors in the city of Homs, which has become a major
flashpoint in the eleven-month uprising threatening his regime. Over the
weekend, the Syrian army attacked the city using tanks and rockets. At
least 300 civilians have been killed in the last few days according to
Syrian human rights activists who say it's the worst violence since the
uprising began. Most of the international community now want Assad to
step down. But this weekend, Russia and China vetoed a UN Security
Council resolution calling for Assad to transfer power to a deputy. JN1
talks to Israelis about events in Syria.
