May poison your food, brought to you by Walmart

I went to Walmart today and found this gem. A decorative bowl made in China brought to you by Walmart. I always check the bottom for labels, because I try not to buy anything from China, which is pretty difficult to do at Walmart. Anyway I found this warning: Not for Food use - may poison food. Now, you have to ask yourself, what kind of poison is on or in this material that would poison your food by touch?

I would think that Walmart would purchase this stuff with a little bit more care. What do you think?

  • Wal-Mart, from "Made in the USA" to "Who gives a shit where it's from, we're saving you money."

    • That would be "used to be made in the U.S.A.,until
unions priced themselves out of jobs, and we decided
to buy products we can make a profit on". Why would
you slam a company for selling a decorative bowl, with
a stamp on the fucking bottom, TELLING YOU NOT TO EAT
FROM IT? If you buy a fucking flower pot, you don't
go home and try to serve fucking dinner from it.You
don't buy a bird bath to serve cocktails from. That's
because they are decorative, they aren't dinner plates.
      Chee More..

    • I guess you've never heard of BPA in plastic water bottles, baby bottles, etc. These most definitely aren't "decorative".

  • If I have to goto walmart, its only for basic food, and medicine. And only in an emergency, or rush because its open later than the grocery store. And thats midnight here. So it isnt often.

Other than that screw the place. The durable things they sell are shoddy garbage from China. Stuff that wont last even a tenth of what a product that USED to be made here 30 years ago. Or (because its shoddy again), contain poisons or other dangerous flaws that would be a death nell for a company to produc More..

  • What do you expect from Chinamart?

    Posted Apr-16-2010 By

  • It is a decorative dish and therefore probably contains a lead based glaze

  • My wife drives me absolutely nuts with this, she will go out of her way not to buy anything in china.

I just showed her this and all she said was "Toldyu!"

Whats in this bowl?, it could be anything carcenogenic and more to the point, Whats it coated with?.

    • Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoco

And no, that's not in Chinese.

But what the Hell, for $10 it's still cheaper then McDonalds. ;)

    • Kiln fired pottery usually uses a lead based glazing compound. I'm surprised the factory in China spent the extra penny to stamp the warning on the bowl.

    • Well who knows? I bet the manufacturer doesn't even know. That's the point of the label. There can be any sort of poison in it. They probably get various materials and coatings from multiple suppliers and just purchase whatever is cheapest.

  • Dude, its shinny. What do you expect?

  • Just like McDonald's plays its part in reducing every American to a cheeseburger, so to does WalMart eventually reduce everyone to China.
INstead of inflation hitting bad, you can get hit bad with China products. So you only think the price is low but it breaks down much faster.
WHen America went third world status back in year 1999, everything has been intentionally hyped (everything).

  • At least it has an honest warning label for a change but it's not exactly a selling feature.

    Posted Apr-16-2010 By

  • its not to warn the comsumer its to protect china from having to recall the shit. It's cheaper to slap labels on the product then go through the recalls, publicity etc. Start looking at the labels more, check an extension cord lately? People still buy the shit cause its (1) cheap, in more than one way (2) everything gives you cancer so what the hell

  • So what is it supposed to be used for, a bedpan?
    Unreal.

  • some may say well there is a label...what happens if the buyer gives these to goodwill?

my mom brought up that point when they were having all the lead paint toy brouhaha. i have given away gobs of toys, kitchen stuff and the like. nobody keeps the labels.

  • That is a decorative bowl. My wife has the damn things all over the house to hold stupid candles. They aren't meant to be eaten on.

Heck go to California and everything you find says it causes cancer. I mean everything.
