Iran Terms Israeli Orange Imports Unofficial

TEHRAN (FNA)- Deputy head of Iranian Customs Mohammad Reza Naderi denied reports on the imports of Israeli oranges into Iran through official channels, saying that the cargo might have been smuggled into the country.

The oranges were labeled with "Jaffa sweetie Israel PO" and distributed in boxes with a sign reading "Made in China". The Jaffa orange is grown in Jaffa port city located in the south of Tel Aviv.

Speaking in an interview with MNA, Head of the Fruit and Vegetable Distribution Organization Hossein Safaie described the event as "bothersome" and urged authorities to arrest and bring to justice those responsible in the case.

The issue will be pursued closely by the Fruit and Vegetable Distribution organization, Safaie said, and added that his organization will fight against those who ignore the Iranian's religious and revolutionary values to make a profit.

Elsewhere, Deputy Iranian Commerce Minister Mohammad Sadeq Mofatteh claimed that the oranges have been labeled as "Jaffa sweetie Israel PO" in order to discredit the ruling government.

He added that anyone who can vindicate that the Iranian Commerce Ministry has issued permit for import of orange from Israel would be awarded a 1,000,000,000,000 Iranian rials (USD 100,000,000) cash prize.
